out for a blast
I get that feeling too, I think I'm driving gently, keeping revs down etc and "the kidz" are revving the cogs out of their engines but can't quite keep up. Sometimes I ease off just to let them think they can keep up with a zed and then blip the throttle just a little........ Most of the time I ignore them, they are quite happy tearing around town at 50mph plus but would probably 5h1t their nappies at proper 150mph on an empty motorway, sorry officer, I mean private test track!!:D :D

How low can you go?
Thanks Willie I knew about the negative camber issue from past experiences but didn't realise what else would be affected. Just as well I'm leaving it all alone then;) The UK set-up is more than good enough:D Richard

Kitted black Zed in Wendover?
I passed a black Zed with a body-kit and large rear spoiler on the A413 wendover by-pass last Friday (31st Oct) about 9.00am. Didn't realise it was another Zed until I saw the rear (too late to acknowledge;) ) owing to the kit. Anyone from here? Richard

Black Zed in Ruislip?
Hi all Each day I see a black imported (H reg, i think) Zed parked on a driveway in Ruislip. It's on Ickenham road (I think, only worked there 6 years so I don't know all the road names yet:D ), between the Conservative Club and White Bear PH. Anyone here? Richard

How low can you go?
I remember reading something in Jap Performance advising NOT to lower a Zed. I have thought about it for aestetic reasons only, but never have coz of that point. Plus the car handles fine on stock set-up. Don't know why it's bad to lower it, though perhaps someone could explain......:) Richard

Do not use this Insurance Company
PS, Didn't you see earlier posts about buying cars from dealers in Brum??:D Richard

Do not use this Insurance Company
I was insured with Aon via Houghton for the last 4 years, running to mid Oct each year, from when I had an imported mk3 Supra. They were always the best quote/cover each year. I started looking for a Zed last Nov (1 month into policy) and back then they told me the increase in premium would be £30. I bought my Zed in June this year (7 months later FFS) yet they now wanted an extra £50:eek: Not happy, obviously as I thought it should be less than £30 as there was less time until my renewal. I didn't renew out of principal (and Bell Direct were over £200 cheaper:D :D ) but I would still ask Houghton for a quote in future as their policy was very good. I'm sure most insurance companies have a standard clause about refunds upon cancellation, some do refund the unused protion but others may restrict how much they pay back. IMO you sign the policy you accept their terms........ .........but at least you got your money back in the end;) Right now I'm pi55ed of with Morgan Stanley for the £20 late payment fee and the Post Office for making my cheque late..... ......You don't want to sue them for me, do you?:D :D :D Richard

Bell Insurance
I was insured with them on my supra 4 years ago then switched. I have just gone back to them with my Zed as they gave me one of the lowest quotes (not quite the lowest, but the XS was lower and they insured my wife - who's 5 years younger then me - at no extra cost). I thought £487 for an everyday user, with an induction kit and different wheels was pretty good. If they hike up the price next year (as with Gio) I will switch to someone else:D They are pretty big as they are part of Admiral/Elephant group and they will guarantee the courtesy car if you have a UK Zed, but not for imports. Just make sure you read the terms and conditions and that all mods are quoted for:) Richard

UK Rear Wheels vs J Spec - Why?
Following Robtor's above post, it looks like my theory regarding different manufacturers was right:) As the profile of Toyos is more rounded, they obviously appear narrower over the tread width. Lets wait to see what Bridgstone reply to Gio.... Richard

Garaged Zed
Order the cambelt kit from Courtesy Nissan in the USA, it's about us$300 ish for everything inc waterpump. Probably a day's work, make sure you get a good garage to do it. Contact Jeff at Zedworld - see traders forum here. Don't get a Nissan Exhaust - it could cost over £1000 and rust in as many days:D :D Luke at the Zed Centre sells the Mongoose system cheaper than anywhere else. Otherwise if you want a s/steel standard (not performance) system a company called BLAST in Birmingham 0121 522 2022 can make a one for £300 Hope this helps Richard

wheel alighnment
Maybe the allignment was not done correctly, ie they adjusted the track-rod ends more on one side than the other. Is the steering wheel straight when the front wheels point srtaight?

tyre pressures?
I too have the same sizes. I started with 1psi below factory settings and found this OK so far......:) Incidentally when I had stock wheels and ran with factory settings, my rear tyres always wore down showing classic signs of overinflation:confused: Too low and you will burn more fuel. Also the tyres will flex more and therefore overheat on a long high speed run (hence the owners manual suggests increasing pressures for continued 100mph driving) which could cause a blowout. Remember, the Zed is a heavy car hence the higher standard pressures. Best start near standard pressures and reduce until it feels right. HTH Richard:)

UK Rear Wheels vs J Spec - Why?
Tyres from different manufacturers would also show different results. On a tyre with a more "square" cross-section (like a Michelin Pilot Sport) where the tread runs right to the sidewall you would see a more pronounced difference. I have 255/40/17 rears and 235/45/17 fronts (Goodyear GDS3), so they are still only 20mm apart and the tread width of the rears looks noticeably wider. I'm sure it's been proven that wider tyres don't necessarily mean more road contact as generally the weight is spread more over the width making a smaller contact area from front to back of this rectangle. Wider tyres aren't necessarily as good in the wet either. However wider tyres give better lateral stability (less sideways movement) during cornering, in the dry of course. Which is why the UK spec car has wider rears. Jap roads are long and straight like those in the USA, whereas in Europe/UK we have to contend with more corners, often at higher speeds. Richard;)

Jezza Clarkson???
Love or hate him?? I think there was a reference to him in the Max thread about anti-Jap car snobbery (can't remember exactly)....... ......Anyway, talking of the devil, I was in a bookshop today and I saw a copy of Jezza's 100 best cars of all time. I had a brief thumb through it and amids the usual Italian or German (No 911 though) suspects, right in the middle of the book was.......a 300ZX twin turbo:D :D Apparently he had nothing but praise for the Z32:cool: Maybe he's not so bad after all:p Richard

Concorde may have gone but my Zed's back!

group feature in max power?
Despite my earlier posts, i would actually buy Max if there was a group feature on members' cars:) I would not want to participate, though. However I think someone has already made the point that many of the cars on here are pretty much in stock form, particularly in the looks dept, so the general reception by its readers of the cars would be interesting................... This thread seem to have rattled a few cages:D :D

SPECS on the M4
I may sound too trusting of the boys in blue, but I would be inclined to believe their site, that there are NO specs in those signs. Firstly, specs cameras are usually those triple things and seem too big to be concealed in a roadsign. Secondly they are usually positioned above the carriageway for maximum and accurate detection. Thirdly they are currently only on m'ways and trunk roads etc where the speed limit is somewhere below 70mph. So far there have been no plans to place detection equipment on motorways where there is no lower limit than 70. I won't test that theory just yet, though. I'll wait to see if the rest of you start to get tickets:D :D :D Hope I'm right as I drive to Cornwall a fair few times a year and I like to get there in under 3 hours!!!;) Richard

Motor City in Birmingham
Just would like to add ALLIED CARS to Matty's "dealers in Brum to avoid:D " Drove over 100 miles to see a car the dealer described as "stunning"..... ..... It was rubbish, trim coming off, scratched paint and bad bad paintwork repairs. I looked around their other imported cars to see if the zed was a one off, they were all sh1te!!! I drove back down the M40 in a very very foul mood after wasting time and petrol:mad: Richard

group feature in max power?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not slagging off the ethos behind the Max Power scene. Like Jock and Big Roy mentioned they (we)all must start somewhere. However the tuning industry now is far too money orientated (sadly as is everything today - god, how old does that make me sound?:D ) and the mags too manipulating with regard to modding fashions. It seems every modded Saxo etc has the same body kit, paint job and stereo. My point was that if a young modder can waste £30K on "maxing" a Saxo just to be different, why didn't he buy something decent and rare in the first place for say £10K (eg Zed, Supra etc), spend a little on mods if necessary and he would still have enough cash left to insure it for a couple of years:D I'm not complaining about (some of) the women though:p Richard

STP fuel injector cleaner stuff- any good?
Ref the post by Rossy, Slick 50 do actually make a fuel additive as well. I guess that's what Chrissy P was referring to;) I agree with Chrisdbx about the oil additive though, bad news for Zeds and other high performance cars:eek: Richard
