It's Official..........chicks dig the car!
Hi all Just popped into the village to pay the paper bill. Normally I would walk but as I taking the Zed to Nissan I called in en-route. I parked outside the hairdressers and three (quite fit) girls were eyeing up the car. As I got out, the young assistant (I'm sure she was 16, officer:D ) came out and said, "your car is dead cool" And all because the ladies love a red Zed:D :D :D Richard:rofl: ps the Zed had a clean bill of health...... quote from sevice rep...."....the best I've seen in a long time..."

alarms...
Hi all To add another contender I've got an Avital MAXX3. Yes I know they are made by Clifford but they are probably better as you get all the good features without the frills that go wrong, at a good price. Mine was fitted with window closure for £350 all in by a company in High Wycombe, Bucks. They did a top job too. Richard:)

lights are so dim
Hi ZX-ice I run Osram +30% H3 bulbs in the dipped beam and they are excellent. Good value too at only £12.27 from demon tweeks - way cheaper than PIAAs. I actually had the PIAAs and only tried the Osrams coz they were cheap and got a good write-up in Auto Express. They were every bit as good as the PIAAs (which are around £38 a pair), so I haven't put the PIAAs back yet...... .....Wanna but them??:D Richard;)

What is the point of big a 4x4?
I agree with you Stuart. Even in the Zed, I will still go through a 3 inch deep puddle (very slowly, so as not to get water in the air intake) if several cars are coming from the opposite direction and it would be a long wait for the oncoming traffic to subside. I still drive round it if the road is clear, though. Why are people afraid of a little water, especially if you can see from curb stones, verges etc how deep the puddle is. But you are right about the 4x4 thing though - they sit well over a foot off the ground FFS:rolleyes:

Courtesy Nissan
I too have had only good service from Courtesy. The only time a delivery has been delayed was when I opted for standard delivery. The parcel got to the UK within 3 days then sat at Parcelforce (about 2 miles from my office) for 2 weeks while the idiots claimed to have "attempted 3 deliveries but received no answer" It's a busy office FFS, and there's always someone there between 8am & 6PM????? And where was the calling card????? Parcelforce........Parcel feckers more like. The moral, pay a bit extra for the ups service;) Just my 2p's worth Richard;)

Oil pressure on standard TT engine?
Hi Gio When fully warmed up, mine stays at just under the 30 psi at 1000rpm. At 60-70mph (2-2500rpm) it is about half way between 30 and 60psi. At 80-90 (3000rpm) it is dead on 60psi. As the pressure is also consistent with engine effort, not just engine speed, 30-40 psi sounds reasonable for 50-60mph (at 1500-2000rpm) since the engine is barely working. The forward motion of the car is probably providing more effort than the engine. My oil pressure was quite erratic recently, especially at idle and low speeds when hot. I replaced the sender unit and that sorted the problem. If you are worried, get your garage to set up a mechanical gauge to check it accurately. You may get a pleasant surprise!;) HTH Richard:)

Tyre sizes again.
Hi Stuart, 255 is the recommended size for 9.5 inch width (certainly with 17 inch rims) but 265 will go on ok. 265s are fine for 9 - 10.5 inch widths. Most wheel retailers put 255s on 9.5x17 or 265s on 10x18. HTH Richard:)

J-spec front fog lights on UK car help?
Hi All Thanks for advice. I shouldn't have to mod the indicators, Paul since I was intending to buy US spec clear (maybe crystal-type, if they don't look cr@p) corners. They have indicators & side lights together too. Richard:)

J-spec front fog lights on UK car help?
Hi all I'd like to fit the jap (or usa) spec front fogs to my uk car. The indicators/sidelight bit is not a problem, but are the fogs easy to wire in? Are there already wires fitted, or will I have to run them from somewhere. Obvoiusly I will need to fit a switch on the dash. Has anyone done this? If so any tips? Thanks Richard:)

converting reverse lamps to fogs
Hi Andy I've seen it done by importers. The reverse lights are bright enough, so you may not need the reflector. Use a red bulb or remove the inner lens cover and paint it red using tail-light tint spray (about £10 from Halfords). Get a wiring kit which has a switch and relay (it must only come on with dipped headlights), snip of the wire to the reverse lamp and connect the new wiring to the wire in the light cluster. If you have one of those dangly lights bolted on, most of the wiring is done. Just snip the wire to the reverse light, run the wire from the bolt-on crap thing into the boot and connect it to the wire to the light you have just cut. Dead easy! Oh make sure you do it to the right hand side:D Richard

Dilemma!
Hi Ya5een The Zed is indeed an expensive car to run, but well worth it. I use mine as everyday transport, can't bear to have it and not drive it!! Fuel is the biggest cost - average 18mpg (around 220-250 miles per tank) but I've had nearer 25 on a 250 mile trip (at 90-ish on m'way plus final 40 miles a/b-road thrash). I've had mine (UK auto TT, 67000 miles, full nissan s/h) since June and aside from the usual 60k problems (PTU, waterpump - both under warranty though) it has been ok. I think the general opinion is that these are still reliable cars if looked after and not modded too much. I have the oil changed at between 3-4000 miles and use good synthetic stuff + nissan parts It seems the people who have the most problems here drive modded cars. And as someone said, they are at least 10 years old now so some items do break with age, especially on such a high performance car. Insurance will be high at 21, but if you have another car you can get classic/2nd car insurance. UK cars are cheaper to insure in general. Happy hunting Richard:)

Scream on startup
Hi Jason If the screaming continues for a couple of minutes after starting, it could be the cam belt tensioner. Not a serious problem, just annoying. Change it when the cambelt gets done next. Richard:)

Floor mats
Hi Geoff Yes, I believe a they have been taken over by Saxon Industries in Berkshire. They still trade as Autostyle, call 01488 681368 or you can still access http://www.autostyle.co.uk Richard:)

Brake Pads and Tyres
Hi Ant Depending on where you are in Essex, Elite Wheels & Tyres in Rainham on the old A13 (nr ford works - new A13 bypasses that bit now, I think?) are pretty good and usually give low prices. I used them when I lived in East London a few years back. Richard:)

Top gear tonight
Very good viewing:D Always new the 300 would win:rolleyes: Anyway, who said the Cossie would beat the 300ZX:confused: I've taken a cossie both off the lights and in a rolling start. No probs. Read Autocar 25th May 1994. (Cossie v Celica GT4) Cossie = 0-60 in 6 and 0-100 in 17.9 (1/4 in 15.0 at 94mph) and 30-70 thru gears in 6.5. WAY slower than a 300zx  Richard:D

Brake Pads and Tyres
Hi Ant To answer your tyre dilema, BF goodrich tyres give excellent grip and ride in all conditions and the price seems good. However I had these on the rear of my Supra and they only lasted a year - I only drove it 5 - 6000 miles p/a and relatively gently (most of the time) at that. So I was not impressed with them overall. Bridgestones are pretty good and a few members here use them. They shoul last longer too. I now use Goodyear GSD3 Eagles on the zed and in 2 words they are F***ing excellent:D Evo mag rated them the best high performance tyre in the world...... HTH Richard;)

low vacuum on startup
Hi Jaffa I have been seeing this too, but it does indeed return to the left after 10 minutes. The car still runs fine from cold though. You have a -20 on your guage? Mine is -14 to +14 psi (uk car). Normal vaccum is between -10 and -14 but currently -7 to -10 in very cold weather. perhaps the cold is playing havoc with the rubber hoses causing them to contract (much the same as fuel hoses do occassionally per earlier threads) leading to vacuum leaks? Richard:confused:

BP ultimate?
Hi all Anyone tried this yet? I used it the other day (only to get 1000 free nectar points:D ) The Zed didn't run any differently but I got some 30 miles less from that fill-up. I normally use Shell regular 95ron (UK car) and occasionally Optimax (I think the Optimax tanks at my local Shell are contaminated as the car sometime runs like 5hit if I use it from there - as did my Supra). So not only was the BP stuff more expensive but IMO it was cr@p too! Richard;)

Nice bobykit!!!!
