STP fuel injector cleaner stuff- any good?
Hi Scoops, no I've not seen that !!! (Don't watch too much TV;) ) I only suggested cataclean coz a company called Calder Racing developments who tune jap sports cars (based somewhere in Scotland) mentioned it works?? Personally I'd use the Redline product..... ......although some company called BMW list it is a standard part number:D :D :D Richard

group feature in max power?
I used to read Fast Car back in 1987/88 ish. Back when I was 18 and drove an Opel Manta and Astra GTE. Back then it was actually good and the cars were actually put throught their paces on the track at Bruntingthorpe. As a petrol head, all I was interested in was "how fast?" Now it has sadly gone the way of Lax Power, Trevs, Breadline etc. These mags are now all full of adverts and crap-heaps which are severly overdone in the spoiler dept, with more power in their stereos than in the engine. I looked through FC recently (didn't buy it, honest:D ) and following a letter from someone slagging off a be-spoilered Saxo which cost the owner £30K in mods - ie thet he could have bought a decent car for that... The editors reply was ".......I would rather cruise around in that Saxo than a standard Evo 7........." Just about sums it up doesn't it?:D

NZR advice pls: 3 wheels on my wagon
First move should be to get the offer in writing from the garage. It confirms they accept liability, should he wish to go further. If he was considering changing the car anyway then he should accept (or negotiate further) their offer. Litigation is a hassle and your mate could lose, or at least have to pay his own costs. If he accepts the offer, he will get £400 more than he would if he sold the car without hassle of selling it. He can purchase another as a cash buyer, thus hopefully being able to haggle more than he would if he had a PX. If he wants to keep his car then once he has their acceptance of liability get the garage to foot the repair bill. But at a garage of your mate's choice. He has the right to chose where his car is repaired. Finally, don't use that garage again;) HTH Richard

STP fuel injector cleaner stuff- any good?
I'm not convinced this stuff is any good, if its the £4.99 ish bottle. The Wynns complete fuel system cleaner at £12.99 is probably the better bet from the range you get in Halfords etc. There are better products, although not as easily available, that would make a difference. Eg Redline SI-1 or SI-2. There is another product called Cataclean, use your search engine to locate the suppliers. HTH Richard

Water pump?
Cheers guys, probably more like the two hoses as there are coolant stains reaching the top pannel between the plenums. Richard:)

slippy weather
In reply to Stuart's (SRRAE) post I'm with him on the painted lines issue. What fecking b45tard moron from whatever agency deals with roads, thought about those stupid yellow lines across the lanes on the approach to roundabouts on 70mph dual carriageways?? Surely the idea is to safely stop for the roundabout?? On some cars I've driven (not my zed yet:D) it really f***s with the ABS in the wet and you end up with the front halfway onto the roudabout before you've stopped.

slippy weather
Since fitting new Goodyear GDS3 tyres, I find the car has loads more grip. Its much harder to get the back sideways, even really booting it. No sudden unexpected losses of traction yet:D

Cam belt, where from?
Hi mark While replacing the belt its considered prudent to replace water pump (I didn't and it may be dying now:o ), the two little water hoses, other drive belts, thermostat and pulleys etc. since to replace any of these later requires the same work/removal of front of engine. You can get the complete kit from Courtesy or Concept in the USA via their website. Cost of all components is aroung US$300, which is way way cheaper then fron Nissan here Richard

Alternator now replaced
Hi Rich If you DO need to replace the PTU order a phase 2 one from Courtesy nissan in the USA. Nissan UK want nearly £300 for the original one! Courtesy price will be half that including shipping for the new type. Alternatively, somone on the forum may be selling one. Check parts for sale. You could always give Mike Feeny at MJP a call - see traders forum. Make sure it is the PTU first, though. Try borrowing someone elses to see if it makes a difference. Richard

Water pump?
When I got my zed, I was ignorant of the "when you have this bit dismantled you may as well replace that bit while you're in there" nature of these cars. Consequently when I had the cambelt etc done the water pump appeared OK so I didn't get it changed. Now I'm getting a strong coolant smell after high speed driving and there are antifreeze splashes over the front of the engine around the belt cover and metal pipe in which the temp sensors fit. It is definately not from the rad, I shone a torch down there and there are more coolant stains on the engine block between cam belt covers. The car doesn't overheat (yet) and I've only needed to top the expansion tank up an inch in 3 months. Does this sound like the water pump dying?

Flamin Squeeky belts again
It may not be the belts, the cam belt tensioner can also make this noise on cold start for about a minute or so. If so it won't cause problems it's just annoying. Wait until you have the cam belt changed then replace it. Nissan charge about £200 for one though:eek: Try tightening the drive belts etc first.;)

Alternator now replaced
Hi Rich The alternator is a weak point of the Zed and believed to last about 50-60,000 miles. My zed had the hesitation thing when I bought it but the 60k service with new plugs, filters etc cured the problem (until the PTU threw a seven) The original PTU is again generally good for 60,000 until it gives probs. All those bits fixed and the car runs perfctly now. Do an ECU diagnostic (plenty of links for this on forum) and see what shows.

Anti-freeze.
Why not buy the ready mixed stuff straight from a Mandela. It's no more expensive than leading brands and after all it's the recomended choice of Mr Nissan:D

Bye bye Concorde - sniff
Great photos Gio:) It seems all the powers that be today want to trash anything that smacks of a Great British achievement - PC gone too far if you ask me. Concord is still the greatest advance in passenger flight despite being a year older than me! I hate to think that the Americans are having the last laugh today, just because they haven't (or cannot) produce anything better in 34 years and with all the finance available to them. I also agree Richard Branson should have been allowed to take it over. He has the finance and resources to sort any safety issues and make a go of it. Perhaps it's better he doesn't though because the Government and BA would make sure he look a fool, like Railtrack have done with the railways. Virgin trains are fine and advanced compared to others but the infrastructure still ensures they can't run to their full potential, thus making Virgin look bad instead of showing up the competition as they should. Concord, we'll one day lament letting it go:cry:

Happy, then not happy
Woohooo! I just got my Zed back from the bodywork people. I have had the small area of rust repaired on the O/S/R arch. Chappie did a great job removing rust, filling and blending etc:) Then I looked at the paint work:( He didn't respray whole rear wing, just the arch area and blended it in. That bit was OK but the area of original paint on the wing looks as if spiders have been ice-skating on it, he's sprayed part of the rear bumper for some reason (why, I don't know since the natural join is a good place to stop:confused: ) and the blend-in is soooo bad it could have been done by a 1 armed baboon weilding a spray-can and to cap it all the b***ard had managed to crack the paint on my boot spoiler. I had that resprayed by the dealer when I bought the car so it was perfect before I took it in. This guy is a contact used by my mechanic, who is a friend of mine. Still I haven't paid yet and I'm fecked if I will until it is done properly. But that's another 2-3 days without my Zed - really annoying:mad:

headlights
I bought the PIAA Platinum whites from Demon Tweeks - they cost £26+vat. Excellent improvement over stock. PIAA also do "Extreme whites" for about £70-80 ish. I hand these in my Supra and they were good but not twice as good as the Platinum whites so extra cost not justified.

Sticky morning!
Don't know about other clips, but I had a similar problem, only the small rubber hose into fuel filter had split. I replaced it and, like you, no more petrol smell:)

Is it just me....
I hate to see that happen to an excellent car and I'm sure we can all sympathise with the poor guy over having it nicked. But FFS he should have insured it from the time he collected it, after all he had to drive it home didn't he? That he is now out of pocket is his really own fault.

Good private Warranty for Zeds, anyone know?
Hi Justin I bought my warranty from Private Car Warranties for £375 and got an extra 3 months free. I've already made a couple of claims for electrical items (PTU at £300+fitting/vat etc) and a sensor. They paid up without question so its already paid for itself. Call Mike Woolley on 0207 384 1122 for a quote Richard
