Had the car up on axel stands today to try and find out what this terrible grinding whirling noise was which has been pissin me off for ages, took the belt off alternator and started the motor and no noise, now has been replaced by secondhand one...........thank god for that, i seem to be buying something for this car every day now, still yet to have cambelt, water pump etc done as well. To be honest i wish i didn't buy the dam thing.

Thanks to Andy Z who i kept pestering about parts but managed to find alternator in local scrappy so sorry didn't buy one off you in the end, no doubt i'll be calling you again tho....:(

Anyone know for any reason why my car should be lumpy and hesitant at 2.500 revs, was on motorway today at that rev range but soon as i put foot down bit by bit it does'nt want to go, only moves when accelerator has travelled a few inches then kicks down, anyone had similar experience?

Cheers...........Rich - (not now i bought a Z)

Hi Rich

The alternator is a weak point of the Zed and believed to last about 50-60,000 miles.

My zed had the hesitation thing when I bought it but the 60k service with new plugs, filters etc cured the problem (until the PTU threw a seven)

The original PTU is again generally good for 60,000 until it gives probs.

All those bits fixed and the car runs perfctly now.

Do an ECU diagnostic (plenty of links for this on forum) and see what shows.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Cheers, already changed plugs filters etc but not PTU. Darren Pearce said i need a phase 2 one or summink, how much and where 2 would i get one do you think?

Hi Rich

If you DO need to replace the PTU order a phase 2 one from Courtesy nissan in the USA. Nissan UK want nearly £300 for the original one!

Courtesy price will be half that including shipping for the new type.

Alternatively, somone on the forum may be selling one. Check parts for sale. You could always give Mike Feeny at MJP a call - see traders forum.

Make sure it is the PTU first, though. Try borrowing someone elses to see if it makes a difference.

if it wont rev above 2.5k, could also be the air mass sensor.

have you done an ECU diag yet??

seams to be fine now, little gremlins keeps creaping in, will try ECU test...............cheers
