My old mans got a Uk Zed in the Garage and its been there for the last 3 years. He brings it out now and then to run it but not very often, and in anycase only for 15mins or so.

He wants to put it back on the road (or is hoping to). I was just wondering what sort of things are likely to need replacing on it? The exhaust is rusting and flaking underneath the back boxes so that need to go.

Just want a rough idea of what may need replacing and how much.

Cheers

If the car has never has any servicing in that time, I would say that he take it for a oil and filter change, cambelt change, fluids changed, anciliary belt change, water pump change and get all the brakes/calipers/fluid checked as a minimum.

IIRC petrol, esp Optimax, goes off.

Yeah ?

Do you know how long it's 'sposed to take to deteriorate then Pete ? And what are the effects ? Mine sit's in the garage all winter. Will I need to reset the ECU next Spring ?

Cheers !

PS sorry about hijacking your thread Welshboy !

Yep, petrol definitely "goes off". It is a mix of all sorts of fractions, accellerants, additives blah blah all of which evaporate at different rates. So after a time, the mix in your tank is not the one which Mr Shell sold you.

Don't know the timescales - probably more than a few weeks before it gets serious.

I had my GSX-R750 off the road for a few months after an accident. There was plenty of fuel in the tank, it still smelled of petrol, but would it fire up? Would it hell!! Fresh tank of fuel, flushed it through and it started first press of the button. Therefore......three months is too long.

Cheers guys. Roughly how much would it cost for all these things to be done? And how much will a new exhaust system set him back?

Order the cambelt kit from Courtesy Nissan in the USA, it's about us$300 ish for everything inc waterpump.

Probably a day's work, make sure you get a good garage to do it.

Contact Jeff at Zedworld - see traders forum here.

Don't get a Nissan Exhaust - it could cost over £1000 and rust in as many days:D :D

Luke at the Zed Centre sells the Mongoose system cheaper than anywhere else. Otherwise if you want a s/steel standard (not performance) system a company called BLAST in Birmingham 0121 522 2022 can make a one for £300

Hope this helps

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

As for exhausts, I've got a Mongoose and it's fine - but it does bug me slightly because it's got big (3") tailpipes.

I was doing some research for more normal tailpipes and found

You can have wide choice of tailpipes on your exhaust but make sure you choose right before you order it - you can't change them afterwards!
