Jae 2016 poll
Maybe because there is no "maybe" option. A simple yes/no is had to make people vote if they do want to go, but dont know what they will be working at the time. I have voted no because im sure I will be working (dont actually know yet) If by some good fortune im not, I would like to pop up for the day

Where does our membership money go?
My father is a member of the MX5 owners club and he pays nearly £50 per year and gets a magazine a few times a year. Hes never got any bits for free from the forum and hasnt made use of any free advice (although I would worry if he was topping up his oil, let alone fitting new brakes!), So i think ours is a bargin. In terms of meets, how about each area manager posts a list of events going on in his/her areas and people can attend if they can? Members could be on the look out for events and let them know. For example this year its the Eastbourne Magnificient Motors on Saturday 30th April and Sunday the 1st May 2016. I would be more than happy to turn up with one of our banners. Ive got 2 cars and my mate has five, so just the two of us could make a pretty good stand, add on the 5 others ive seen in Eastbourne and that doesnt include all the other guys down here in the south.

Where does our membership money go?
Speaking as a newbie (just over one year on here and very little posts/experience and not really knowing many of you guys) heres my experience: 1) I went to the Classic car show 2014 and saw the 300zx.co.uk stand with 3 cars on it. I'd always wanted a 300, but seeing a red one with balloons in it (sorry i cant remember whos car it was) made me want one even more. Later that year when I got my first one, within 24 hours I had signed up and paid to use this site. 2) Over the past year of using this site, I have made friends, had a laugh at threads, been helped out more times than I can count and bought items from other members helping them financially and stopping ebay from taking my hard earnt cash. 3) I went to my first car show (simply Japanese) and loved it. Even though my car was the worse there (Missing paint on rear bumper, scrape on front, covered in dust from queuing in the car park) I didnt feel shunned or that my car was crap. I met a few of the people I had been posting with here and had a good chat with Phoenix, not to mention seeing all your cars and giving me further enthusiasm to complete mine (and buy another one ). Do I think I got my £20 (£10 for re-sub)? Yes I do. I would happily pay that money for the past year. The help/advice alone has saved me £60/hour getting car problems diagnosed at a garage and it has given me the confidence to work on my own car (i'd never change oil/oil filters, brakes, radiator, etc by myself before) Do I think there is room for improvement? Yes. Meeting regularly would be great, however we all have jobs and most of us have families that take up a lot of time. My job for instant never has the same days off every week, so it hard for me to pin down free time. Also when a meeting is on, some people like to do donuts in a cark park, some like to drive somewhere and others enjoy going on an epic road trip (please see my monte carlo thread). so after pinning down a time, pinning down what a meeting will be makes it even harder. Distance has a part to play too, our nissans do something like 20mpg, so driving 50miles to a meet is getting on for 1/2 tank there and back and thats, what, a good £40? Add on the lunch/dinner/drinks. A lot of people with said families find it hard to blow £100 to stand in a car park and look at the same car they own! That all being said, Im up for more meets, more to meet you guys than do donuts... As Ive never been to JAE (hoping to this year) I cant comment, however as the organisers have changed the location (turned over a new leaf perhaps) maybe this is a cue for us to do the same? Ask the members what they expect for JAE, what they would like and see if we can plan around that? as always my posts are open to criticism and I welcome it, but you will receive a horses head on your pillow the next morning...:lol:

TT vs NA Brake Rotor size
Sorry to dig up an old thread, if ive read this right, my import NA 1990 300zx will have the 28mm thinner discs? I guess I should measure them just incase one of its previous owners has put TT calipers on it?

This might seem a silly question, but after looking through the website I cant find what time it starts? Its 3 hour drive for me, so was thinking of just coming for the day, but need to know what time to leave.

Lights and bulbs
I have my MOT next month and need a few things doing so it can sail through. Couple of things I would like to know: 1) I have a JDM LWB non-turbo with a HID kit I installed last year, one of my front fog light bulbs has gone. What bulbs do I need? Is there a better style of bulb (the current bulbs were a bit too orange and didnt match the HIDs) 2) To pass the MOT last year I had to change my reverse light into a fog light, I stole my wife red nail polish and painted one of the reverse bulbs which worked, but now I want something much brighter (not to mention the nail polish has faded!) What is the type of bulb I need? I know the JDMs use a H3 or something, but in the UK its called a H3c or something. Could anyone clear this up for me as im struggling to find a clear answer Thanks

Petrol - good or bad
I did an experiment with my NA Z for 2 months. I only put V-power in my tank for 2 months (I wanted to make sure the tank and engine had been flushed out of normal petrol) Most of my mileage was driving the 8 miles to work and 8 miles back, due to the nature of my job, sometimes that was at 4.30am, sometimes at 11.30am, so I had clear runs and got stuck in traffic. I also had a couple of long motorway journeys and a few times I went for a drive just because I felt like "unleashing the beast". Now heres the things, I noticed NO difference in performance and according to my car app, I lost 10-20MPG by using more expensive petrol... So for the moment im back to cheap petrol (tescos) for another couple of months to double check...

Lapland
I went when I was a kid, I can only give you a view from a kids point of view, but it was amazing. I remember we flew to Oslo and had a coach to take us to lapland. We stay in a town with a massive lake that was frozen. People were skiing on it, having BBQs (yes, really!) and generally meeting on it. It was a really good trip and well worth it (as a kid!)

MyHermes
Three times now i have used them and 3 times they put the parcel in the wheelie bin (as a safe place) and 2 out of the three times it was on bin day, so i had to refund the buyers money. They are f"£@*$g useless... I spent hours and hours on the phone trying to received the compensation/insurance money and only got it when I threaten the supervisor with legal action and sending a recording of the phone conversation to the papers...

Top Gear Challenge Weekend
I used to own a Mk 1 MX5 and at first was ribbed for having a hairdressers car, but after letting people have a go in it, some of my friends even went out and got their own! I loved mine to pieces and was very sad when it got chewed by the tin worm. I paid £350 for mine and sold it for £400. I took it to Monte Carlo (1994 miles in 5 days) and it never missed a beat. Also, as it was a 1.6L I could go everywhere with my right foot planted and not have to worry... It was worth every penny and I'd happily have another...

15 of nissans fastest vehicles
whats the deal with listing the 350, then the 350 nismo, then the 370 then the 370 something or the R32, the R33, then R34? Each new version is going to be faster, why not just list the fastest version for that car then have more space for other cars?!

Today's Sports Cars compared to '90's Sports Cars
I thinks down to a change of buying habits. In the 80's and early 90's everyone was living in excess and blowing money on a 400BHP car wasnt a bad idea, however now customers seem to want economy, saving the planet, etc so therefore the demand for high horsepower cars has dropped. This can also be seen in the mid to late 90's models such as the Supra, they were designed to take 800BHP, but toyota backed out at the last minute and settled for 300BHP due to a mini economic crash (the dot.com bubble i think). I think its a shame, especially when nissan says theuir next Z car will be a crossover. I think car companies have lost "the Edge", they are playing safe too much and just trying to design one car that does/looks/drives everything...
