Lights and bulbs
I have my MOT next month and need a few things doing so it can sail through. Couple of things I would like to know: 1) I have a JDM LWB non-turbo with a HID kit I installed last year, one of my front fog light bulbs has gone. What bulbs do I need? Is there a better style of bulb (the current bulbs were a bit too orange and didnt match the HIDs) 2) To pass the MOT last year I had to change my reverse light into a fog light, I stole my wife red nail polish and painted one of the reverse bulbs which worked, but now I want something much brighter (not to mention the nail polish has faded!) What is the type of bulb I need? I know the JDMs use a H3 or something, but in the UK its called a H3c or something. Could anyone clear this up for me as im struggling to find a clear answer Thanks

Petrol - good or bad
I did an experiment with my NA Z for 2 months. I only put V-power in my tank for 2 months (I wanted to make sure the tank and engine had been flushed out of normal petrol) Most of my mileage was driving the 8 miles to work and 8 miles back, due to the nature of my job, sometimes that was at 4.30am, sometimes at 11.30am, so I had clear runs and got stuck in traffic. I also had a couple of long motorway journeys and a few times I went for a drive just because I felt like "unleashing the beast". Now heres the things, I noticed NO difference in performance and according to my car app, I lost 10-20MPG by using more expensive petrol... So for the moment im back to cheap petrol (tescos) for another couple of months to double check...

Lapland
I went when I was a kid, I can only give you a view from a kids point of view, but it was amazing. I remember we flew to Oslo and had a coach to take us to lapland. We stay in a town with a massive lake that was frozen. People were skiing on it, having BBQs (yes, really!) and generally meeting on it. It was a really good trip and well worth it (as a kid!)

MyHermes
Three times now i have used them and 3 times they put the parcel in the wheelie bin (as a safe place) and 2 out of the three times it was on bin day, so i had to refund the buyers money. They are f"£@*$g useless... I spent hours and hours on the phone trying to received the compensation/insurance money and only got it when I threaten the supervisor with legal action and sending a recording of the phone conversation to the papers...

Top Gear Challenge Weekend
I used to own a Mk 1 MX5 and at first was ribbed for having a hairdressers car, but after letting people have a go in it, some of my friends even went out and got their own! I loved mine to pieces and was very sad when it got chewed by the tin worm. I paid £350 for mine and sold it for £400. I took it to Monte Carlo (1994 miles in 5 days) and it never missed a beat. Also, as it was a 1.6L I could go everywhere with my right foot planted and not have to worry... It was worth every penny and I'd happily have another...

15 of nissans fastest vehicles
whats the deal with listing the 350, then the 350 nismo, then the 370 then the 370 something or the R32, the R33, then R34? Each new version is going to be faster, why not just list the fastest version for that car then have more space for other cars?!

Today's Sports Cars compared to '90's Sports Cars
I thinks down to a change of buying habits. In the 80's and early 90's everyone was living in excess and blowing money on a 400BHP car wasnt a bad idea, however now customers seem to want economy, saving the planet, etc so therefore the demand for high horsepower cars has dropped. This can also be seen in the mid to late 90's models such as the Supra, they were designed to take 800BHP, but toyota backed out at the last minute and settled for 300BHP due to a mini economic crash (the dot.com bubble i think). I think its a shame, especially when nissan says theuir next Z car will be a crossover. I think car companies have lost "the Edge", they are playing safe too much and just trying to design one car that does/looks/drives everything...

Tablet installation
How did you do it without hacking it? I love telling people I drive a Datsun Jeff, it prepares them for a bit of a shock! v2.0 I think im going to have a go at making my own console and I might even use my 11" tablet (http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/tablet-pcs/XE700T1A-A03US-specs) But for now im happy knowing I dont have the same 138 songs on CD repeating all the time!

Tablet installation
So I got a bit bored over the weekend and installed a tablet into my Datsun. I used a Linx 7" tablet running Windows 10. its a 1.83GHz Intel Atom Z3735G Quad-Core Processor, 1Gb RAM, 32Gb storage, GPS, etc. I put a 64GB SD card in it full with music. I connected this to my stereo using a 3.5mm audio jack, its actually a 2 way split cable so when my phones in its holder sounds from both the tablet and phone go into the stereo. I then used this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004DU4DGA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00) to power the tablet, I actually have two of these one for the tablet and one for the dashcam. I had to cut the end off and re-solder a micro B style usb onto the end as its was the wrong type of usb for the tablet The grand total for the build was: Tablet = £39.99 Power = £6.99 USB cable = £0.99 3.5mm cable = £0.99 3.5mm splitter = £1.39 fuse holder+fuse = £0.69 Total = £51.04 (not to mention the years use of Office 2015 I got with the tablet that can be used on ANY 5 computers!) Anyway, here are some pics! As you can see, ive had to modify my console a little. This is my first attempt to see if it was possible, at some point ill get another console and make a cleaner better job of it. The hardest part was fitting the audio and usb cable in. I had to hack the plastic molding off the jacks to make them smaller so when sticking out of the side of the tablet they wouldnt foul on the dash molding. you can see the headphone jack on the right (silver thing), it only just fit in and I really didnt want to start attacking the actual dash as the plan was to modify as little as possible. Its very cool, Its got all my music on, it does my GPS (however it tends to loose signal, I suspect this is because its cheap and not very powerful, so Im thinking of getting a bluetooth GPS receiver unit to solve this) and at night time with the screen brightness turned down its not distracting at all. Well worth the money I think! The next plan is see if I can hard wire a Consult into it and display the real time info similar to the Nissan GTR

Finding the DNS is the hardest part, some companies dont like you to know it/use an ever changing one. If thats the case, I dont know what you can do. Maybe call virgin?

Static IP address...
I run my home network with static IPs. This website is the best: http://portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm Windows 8 walkthrough here: http://portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm You will then have to sort out the router, there is a huge list here: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm i have internet with BT and use a BThub4. I have 8 computers and a playstation 3 running through a switch and a few tablets and phones running off the WiFi. It was really easy to set up using that website, but can be daunting to someone new. Any problems, give me a shout...

Cool number plates - if you have £200 to blow...
This put me off: "This product is new on UK roads therfore you are a Ambassador representing your NTRP, in the event you are stopped by a Police officer not familiar with NTRP plates please show the Certificate of Conformity, including Crown vs NTRP case details, along with VOSA, expert witness testomonial and reflectivity testing information." Not to mention the lack of spelling and grammar on the website. Oh and the lack of decent pictures....did I forget the £235 price tag too!? Thanks but no thanks

Compression help
I have looked through the small amount of paperwork I was given with the car and cant find anything suggesting when the timing belt was done. No sticker on the car either. How hard is it to do? Does the engine need to be pulled? same for all the gaskets? Can everything be done with the engine in place?

Compression help
The battery was fully charged. I don't know the history of the car, but ill do what you suggested with the timing belt. Also cheers for the heads up on the cylinder numbers!

Compression help
Ok so yesterday I did another compression test with a mechanic mates tester (british made, excellent quality etc..) and these were the results: Cylinder 1 = 155 (drivers side front) Cylinder 2 = 150 (drivers side middle) Cylinder 3 = 145 (drivers side back - closest to cabin) Cylinder 4 = 120 (pass side front) Cylinder 5 = 100 (pass side middle) Cylinder 6 = 115 (pass side back) They are better than the last test, but the right bank still has a problem. It doesnt seem to be using oil, but while I was working on my black nissan and wifes celica yesterday, we left the red one running away for a couple of hours, It did seem to use a bit of water. we were able to add more water into the system a couple of times. Total added was less than a coke can though. It smoked the whole time (doesnt smoke when you rev it) and seems to jump from 5 to 6 and back to 5 cylinders quite a bit. I played with the coil packs found that its Cylinder 6 (pass side back) that was not always firing... Im not sure what to do now? Im guessing the engine needs a strip down to find out why the low compression and why its not firing?
