  1. I am sure there was something in the regs about imports not coming under them as the number plate block is not neccesarily a standard size??
  2. I think the general consensus was that it was a bad idea from the point of view that if the old belt is a) on wrong or b) stretched and you try to put the new belt on at the same time you are a) going to repeat the error or b) going to have a lot of trouble fitting what is a smaller belt to the same wheels. IMHO the trouble would come when you start dealing with the tensioner. That and the fact that cutting the belt in half in the first place means going round the cams etc in some very tight spaces , or turning over the engine, by hand, with effectively a weakened cambelt doing the work. It has obviously worked for someone, but it seems to be one of these ideas which in the words of my DD granny "when its good, its very good, when its bad its F****ng bad"
  3. Just a suggestion but if we all are interested in these (and I am) can we not stump up and save smithy the risk? I am up for that
  4. Congrats on getting it done. A couple of small points why didnt you change the belts when you took the pulley off? you must have put the old ones back on The cambelt is not as difficult as you think, I had done a couple on other cars but was wary as they seem to be steered clear of on V6 lumps. But, TBH, when I decided to do mine, although there is more setting up to do, as long as you dont go moving the cams all over the place, its not rocket science. I found the fact that nissan belts have 5 marks to line up the five sprockets v. helpful. The feeling that having done it once , you would would do it again, is the same one I got having done the cambelt Go on, you know you want to:)

  6. Mac, You need to get in touch with your feminine side. See the ability to spend money as a gift, not a problem :)
  7. you use leather or vinyl Mac? (I am presuming it looks good )
  8. Think its a great idea. I for one would happily have given her a bung rather than paid the ton + I gave to her majesty's tax man
  9. Looks good. I have pics of mine in place, but am using my mobile as a modem, and it is slow as cancer, will upload when I am home at the weekend. Got a new idea, I see you have the same grey tweed as mine ( i think its standard) the guy who had mine has replaced some of it with black leather effect vinyl and I was going to finish the job, but may do it in red?? What do you think, would it look totally ****??
  10. looks like a job well done. :)
  11. a) dont have cats (not even starting that argument again) b) very tuff, not unlike the waterproof duffel bags you used to get for bikes, a rubberised material c) you (slowly) unscrew the attachment to release it (it does say about ventilation) d) Who goes under a car to see why it wont start? all the electrics are on top and you can see the starter motor from having the car on the ground:confused: Any of you boys who wear high heels will have to buy your own bouncy castles:p
  12. Having gone down the route I am sure most of the people on here have, trying to fit a jack under the car, driving it on to bits of wood to raise it, or up the curb for the same effect, I went to halfords the other day and bought an inflatable jack (stop laughing) and to my surprise it worked a treat. Its basically a cylindrical bag, which you blow up using the exhaust pipe. Goes under the car flat as a pancake and when full (book says 50sec, but I got impatient and revvved the engine) it lifts up to 3 tonnes at a height of 21 inches. 45 of your best english pounds at a halfords near you.

I have my '90 NA decatted with a new pipe. I am sure there will be an argument that the new pipe could deal with any problems that the decatting brought up, but (and its the main but) it runs much better, better throttle response, takes off better and certainly feels (through my patented arse dynometer) to have more power. HTH
  15. Having a manual I dont know how to do the auto, but used these two pages when I did my cambelt. Even with it in 5th , handbrake on I found myself struggling to remove it with a 3' samson bar. And the pulley comes off with a fair crack when you use the puller so watch your knuckles. http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/timingBelt/timingBelt.html And the second ....... http://www.ttzd.com/tech/timingbelttech.html HTH
  16. I particularly like the additional airgun story where the police state its "a built up area with a school nearby" would have been more serious if the "attack" hadn't happened at 22:00 hrs. Simple and quick way to diosable them is to spray paint on the flash lens. Its lower and easy to reach! Allegedly
  17. Having taken mine offf today I would suggest taking all the screws you can reach out of the wheel gaurds, thats the only one I found difficult. Andf where the guy suggests a socket, I found it easier with a 12mm open spanner
  18. cheers james, had a look today while taking out the headlight, and you're not wrong, shame I was looking for that to explain the reason why my air con doesnt work (constant fan , too cold to heat the cabin, it was a thought, just not a clear one):o
  19. yeah, am on my drive working on the zed, if youre about drop by
  20. James, Wheres the pics??? Did you go with a laquer?
  21. Shahid, Sent you mail with that number. I have 18's on my zed and dont have any rubbing problems (with the car anyway :)). You sure it hasnt been lowered? or maybe the shocks are shot??
  22. I thought the fan ran all the time on the zed anyway????
  23. Now thats funny .lol :)
