Interior clock on 300zx import
John, In addition to the above, there is a fuse box in the drivers footwell, on the right hand side as you sit in the car, but it is way in there :) also has a cover on it. Get your head in there, you will find it. all else fails, use the force :) it is there hugh

300ZX a simple car.
Couldnt agree with you more Paul, which Is why I stated mechanically as opposed to electrically/electronically. I have just spent the weekend trying to strip out a custom made speed converter that some nobber has wired into every sensor/system he could get his mitts on (including the stereo, I shit you not). Peter, I did the whole shooting match, cambelt, water pump, oil seals, aux belts, water hoses stc. (you can buy in kit form from Courtesy) It took me two days, but that was due to the fact that I did not have the one tool I needed, and started on a Sunday, so by the time I realised, the shops were shut ( a long reach hex/ allen key, if your curious). Without that moment of nobberness, I reckon a good 8 hrs start to finish is plenty for the first attempt. HTH

insurance
Martin, Am 35, have a jap import N/A and due to the fact that my zed is a second car, have no NCD. LIverpool victoria quoted me £600, which is less than half what anyone else quoted. HTH

300ZX a simple car.
I have to say, that when I started on this forum, was looking to do a 60k service myself. Had I taken to heart the consensus of opinion I would never have started it. Having gone ahead tho, I will say that the zed (mechanically, if not electrically) is one of the easiest cars I have ever worked on

Wiring
I thought this ( at the top, behind the dash) was the Bong, Bong thing

Wiring
The speed converter itself is a bit of a mystery, I traced the wires that were cut into the speedo and they, amongst others, ended in this abortion. Which is sealed in Heatshrink, has 5 wires from it , one of which is cut short, two go to the speedo, the other two???

Wiring
Afetr my xarry on with the speedo working, I decided to get under the dash and see what, if anything, I could find. I appear to have a switch cut into the circuit of the speed converter?? cant think why you would want to do that. I also found the box shown in the picture, underneath the drivers side. It has six wires plugged into it, three of which have been cut. One of the remaining three is an earth. Any clues as to what it is or why anyone would chop it? Cheers Hugh

Ecu programmers
I presume so, I have not checked, due to the fact of being caught up under the dash. I realise this will probably mean it being sdesoldered and put into a socket

Ecu programmers
Does anyone localish to myself have a programmer for the ecu chip? Having taken some advice (thanks PH) I am looking for someone to raise the speed limit (and possibly the rev limit) on my ECU. Obviously am happy to pay for this to be done. Any offers?? Cheers Jock

Fuel filter
I am presuming your cone air filter is foam rather than paper (as you dont clean paper) I always remove it, squirt some washing up liquid onto the out side of the foam, rub it in with my fingers, let it soak for a bit, then rinse it through with lots of fresh water. The water should not be too hot as you risk damaging any glue holding the foam in place and it should be rinsed from the inside out, thus carrying any particles out of the filter rather than inwards. Squeeze/ shake as much water from it as you can and allow it to dry. When dry spray it lightly with air filter oil, I always use K&N as it is red and you can see where you have sprayed it. There are kits available for doing the job, cleaner and oil, but I never found the cleaner much good. HTH

Chipping
Cully, The NA does have a chip. Your standard chip is designed to give the best of all possible situations, by putting in an aftermarket chip, which is designed to suit the fuel, ambient temp etc your car will be using, it makes your engine mapping more specific and so more efficient. This is generally quoted to give a 10% increase in BHP. It is generally accepted that you will do the pipe and induction kit before you do the chip, thus the 10% gain is applied to all existing mods and you dont have to get the chip remapped to cope with any changes the pipe/induction causes. chips I am sure there will be someone who has more/ better info, but this is what I have gleaned from my looking into it. There will also be people who will say "Why bother on an NA?" but thats just the Turbo elitists  HTH
