I just got my front wheels balanced because I had slight vibs around 85ish. It was muchg worse after balancing with real steering shake like buckled wheels at 65. Figured it was done wrong. So then I went to my local big wheels people to get it re done right with diagonals balanced accross the rim as well. Once again shakes and vibration on braking which was never there before. Figured that maybe it had to do with air wrench tightening of wheel nuts and all the copaslip the guy painted the threads with. Half way into a long journey cruising fast I stopped, slackened off the nuts, and re tightened them by hand evenly doing it opposite nut next kind of thing. The …

Having taken my car apart over the past few days in an atttempt to change the water pump, i am now at the stage shown in the pic below technically refered to as the "ooh **** what the hell have i got myself into" stage. Anyway i'm still unsure what has caused my leak but im doing the little hoses, thermostat and water pump. Many thanks to Macca, Andy Duff, TonyC and mtl who hav helped me get this far!!! but now a couple of questions. 1. Where are the engine coolant drains as i cant find em, have found a scetchy pic in the manual which didnt really help much. 2. How far should a fully working thermostat open when you put it in boiling water? 3. and…

Hey everyone, if you enjoy your motoring please check out this site http://www.abd.org.uk and please consider joining. Its only 20 quid and they fight against crazy high fuel tax, stupid low speed limits that are popping up everywhere and loads of other issues . Basically its the motorists voice "dont let them drive us off the road". Check it out and fight back against the do-gooders that hate the motorist and take us for a ride in taxes and fines.

Hey guys, It's been a while since I was last on the forum but thought it high time to let you all know that as of 2pm tomorrow (Sunday 25th) I will have the provervial "ball-n-chain" fitted! :D All kidding aside - I will be marrying the most wonderful girl who, after some persuasion and a couple of drinks, sees the logic of me spending bucket loads of cash on my Zed! Can't ask for anything more really. The getaway car will, of course, be the Zed so now I'm praying to every God to make sure nothing happens to it between now and tomorrow. At the rate I'm going with all the last minute things that need sorting out I'll be washing and polishing the car in the middle of t…

According to a jap mag i have read the standard suspension on the 300zx is adjustable, hard and soft, and the way of changin it between settings is by usin...and wait 4it....the handbrake!! ive got the service maual for the zx and seems 2b true as the hanbrake cable is connected 2 'rear shock absorber actuators' which somehow can change the stiffness of the shocks. now what the jap mag or my service manual dont tell me is how to change the damn things, ie switch between both settings. This is prob new 2most of u as nissan seemed 2keep this quiet 4sum reason. neway.. Does anyone know how to change between the hard/soft settings ??

Hey all.... Just a quick question about a funny thing that happened earlier. Started the car up and the "power" alert light for the auto box flashed about 4-5 times then just went off. Any ideas if this is bad or not? Car feels and goes just as well as ever.....strange

Hi All, I'm aware that HKS Iridiums are rebadged Densos but need to know who manufactures plugs for the likes of Apex'i, Greddy and the like...? Anyone got any info at all on plugs provided by these other 'manufacturers'?? Anyone used anything other than NGK, Denso or 'HKS' Iridiums? Any observations? Thanks in advance, RobH

Hi everyone. I've just changed my gearbox rear mount (front part of prop & centre bearing replaced already because of vibration above 50 mph) and I've STILL got hellish vibration at only 30 mph+ . My theory is that maybe because I've only replaced half of the prop (rear section okay) that there may now be an imbalance ie. the two halves are matched to one another during manufacture. Does anyone know if this is true or not and if anyone can balance the two together as this is really doing my head in now. Many Thanks Shaunmac

Ive just had my rear diff seal replaced due to leaking and the mechanic noticed that one of the UJ's was tight causing vibration (I read all about the gearbox mount etc) but he reckons its deffo the UJ . Anyone know where a good propshaft company is to replace the UJ's as NISSAN propshaft has caulked UJ's and you have to buy a complete prop £808 inc vat. There must be a company who can just replace the UJ,s Thanks.

I recently bent my Z in a low speed (5-10 mph) collision. My insurers wish to write the car off (Category D writeoff), as they believe that it is uneconomical to repair. I would like to investigate purchasing the salvage and having the car repaired myself, which my insurers are happy to entertain. Unfortunately, I have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever - I just drive 'em. I wonder if somneone would be prepared to give me a ballpark estimate (nearest £1000), broken down as much as possible, to effect these repairs, so that I may make an informed decision. The car is a 1990 Jap spec automatic, with no significant mods. The assessors report is as fol…
