General Discussions - 300ZX Related

Right i have been experiencing this for quite a while now and its starting to bug me. The car is running so well and this is the only thing which lets it down. When the clutch reaches its biting point the car judders, and also the biting point changes, so its a bit of a bugger to drive. Sometimes its low sometimes its high. Any thoughts and ideas would be gr8:confused: Ray

A mate of mine from uni days has just ordered himself a new scooby WRX STi with some extra kit from the manufacturer. reckons it can do 0-60 in about 4.6 secs. Added to that the fact it handles better than the Zed, uses less fuel and is cheaper to maintain means that I`m getting nightly phone calls telling me to get a car that is worth racing.......he`s a decent guy (really) but is really pi**sing me off right now. Just thought I`d share. Fancy a scooby being quicker than my 400hp Zed. I just can`t imagine it.

My wife wanted blue headlight bulbs for our Z'd import, so I did the sensible thing and searched the forums for tips, having read previosly that there was a problem regarding the number of terminals. Anyway I went to halfords with a main and a dipped beam bulb as a pattern. The book in halfords stated No 448 for both, but that was abviously wrong as the 448 only matched the main beam bulb (except for the number of terminals). The dipped beam bulb I couldn't even match for size/ shape with anything in the place. Going back to the 448 main beam replacement, it has only one terminal whereas the one I had had two. I don't know if this has been covered somewhere alread…

Im getting ready to build a motor for the Z:D I have three motors to use, I want to find out what year they are from and i want to know if the blocks are interchangeable, my car is 90 n/a building another n/a motor using n/a spare motors for parts, please help me get my z back on the road!!!!! Went shopping for new 18's with SRRAE today- thanks for the patience mate :rolleyes: I am amazed how difficult it is to get wheels to fit a zed, the biggest problem is that of brake caliper clearance. has any one who owns a zed tt ever removed the stock viscus cooling fan and fitted a radiator mounted electric fan.....?can these zeds be driven without a viscus water pump mounted cooling fan and just use the auxillery fan?

New PCV valves fitted along with the hoses going into them and smoke has gone at idle as far as I can tell. Car also feels a lot more responsive, the tail got a bit happy on the way home in a straight line like it used to :o) Im a happy bunny Thanks to Andy Duff for his advice ;) and to dave marley for organising the group buy.

IS there any real benefit in choosing to buy a series 2 over a series 1 given that all I can see is its a bit newer and the seatbelt isn't on the door

RX7, not the latest one, but the slightly older one (series 6 was it?) Me and him chasing a bike down the dual carridgeway, bugger couldn't loose me, but I did have to boot it in 4th to keep up. Couldn't overtake due to traffic. What's the HP one one of these? (he was wearing a basball cap so that's got to be worth another 50 :D) Well impressed. Mike

Does anyone know the maximum speeds at rev limiter in all gears. Also I've heard that UK spec cars are more prone to rust than Jap imports. Why is this so. Our cars are undersealed while Imports are not. Did they use cheaper panels on the UK cars.

Hey all, If accelerating or revving hard, if I lift off the throttle suddenly there's a "cchhhhh" noise, sounds almost metallic. It doesnt happen when lifting off slowly or if I accelerate right through the gears. Its definately not dump valves ;) - actually its almost like a v loud click. It was suggested that it could be related to the recircs - so has any one else has this? :confused: My zed is decatted if thats important, noisewise. It does it even when revving in park or neutral. Any ideas? Performance is not affected but I'm concerned that its breaking something? Cheers folks :) Pete

Having had one side of the high level rear wing rebonded when i got the car the other side has now doe the same :( so a couple of questions 1. just rebond the side that has come loose or completely remove and rebond both sides? 2. What adhesive should be used and where to get it? remember someone mentioning something but cant find it for the life of me TA Glyn

Hi The company i work for can order (aquire) almost any bearing their is - Genuine products as they deal with distributers all over the country. Does anyone have the PART No that is stamped on the side of the "prop centre main bearing" (Not the Nissan part No but the manufactures part no.) Thanks Tom

Hi all. I've just replaced my prop (usual knackered centre-bearing) for another known-good one. I've tried fitting it in all 4 positions (run-out remains the same) onto the rear yoke but it STILL vibrates like hell between 30 & 50 mph. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing it? Now I have got my 300zx working I will be starting to smarten it up. First thing needed are new front and rear bumpers, although there are so many to choose from i'm not sure which to go for. Once the body is sorted out I would like the car to have a respray. Does anyone know how much this will cost and where I could get this done? Thanks.

I have got a very small water leak from the nearside on a pipe tucked away in a gap between the battery and the engine, i dont know how to upload pictures to show exactly where the pipe is and not being very technicaly minded do not know what its called. I have already emailed Andy and he does not have one as its already taken off the vehicle he has for spares anyone that can possibly help email me (dunk5y@dunk5y.plus.com) and i will forward some pictures of where the pipe exactly is Thankyou

Have noticed in recent weeks that i am getting a strange bubbling noise from inside the nearside wheel arch, sounds a little bit like a kettle with not enough water in (very tecnical...!!) apart from a recent leak from a water hose in the engine i have not noticed any problems with the vehicle but am worried incase it is something more serious any help would be appreciated

have been offered a stolen recovered sx .. cheap but ... The f'n BUT again apart from the damages the weee shits done to it .... they must have held the motor wide open until it died .... dont rightly know as when u turn it over the solenoid just clicks ... i would think that dropped valve and knackered engine ??? any 1 else ??? as it is cheap i could slide a boring engine in like primera or sunny etc ... does any1 know if this is simple enough ???? (if oringinal engine is shot) means the Z can just show it's head to the sunshine !!!!!!

A dual carriageway in weston super mare, i pulled up at the lights and this cosworth was there on my nearside. I thought fook hes gonna be quick, lets see if he can keep up:cool: There was only bout 400 yards to a roundabout so not much road, lights went green , floored it and he got half a car infront, then the Z power took over and i pull past him with my back wheels zig zagging 4inch side to side (last owner put 225's on back:rolleyes: ) then 2nd gear kicks in and Z growls and surges forward pulling 3 to 4 car lengths on him before breaking hard for roundabout. cossy eater yumyum :D

Hey, I have a problem with the zed not starting right. It will start, but will run as rough as a dog at about 250rpm for 2 or 3 seconds, then the revs will rise to the normal 1300 or so. btw this only happens when starting from cold. Any ideas what it could be? Could it be that the idle valve is adjusted too low? Thanks
