I've put this Excel file together to make more sense of ECU maps etc. I think it's OK, but if anyone has any corrections please let me know. Also if anyone knows how the ignition dwell settings etc work, can you let me know. The BIN that's in there is a modified stock Z32 '93 Jspec manual. You need the analysis tools pak installed in excel to make it work, and I've only tested it in Excel 2000. Will probably make it write changes back to the BIN at some point. (Now Done) newFile CheerZ

Was hassled today by a guy wanting to buy either a Zed or a Supra. Wife was in the car (patient thank God) as the guy took a look over the Zed and said that it has converted him! Hurrah! Looks like we`ll be getting another Zed owner in Shropshire! He wants to spend about 9K. Is older but modded or earlier and unmodded the way to go? If you had the cash, what would be your path?

I have just upgraded from my Ford Probe to a real sports car, a manual 1990 300zx import. However I have a problem. I got the car home no problem, but cannot now get it started! When I turn the key I get no response, not a whisper. The electrics all work okay, I recharged the battery, I even tried a new battery. The only thing I have noticed is when I turn the key the engine light comes on with CHECK across it. What does this mean? How can I get the car started again? Any help is gratefully accepted. Colin

I guess this sounds like a real minor niggle but I notice it every time I look at my car now - also seen it on some other zeds so I guess it may be quite common. The bonnet close line with the panel between the headlamps is uneven. I have taken the panel out and refitted it. That didn't seem to make any difference although the rubber grommets were a bit perished. I'm can't see the signs of any accident repairs in that area. Anyone have any idea how this can happen? Is there anyway this can be adjusted? Cheers David

Like so many import zeds (and possibly a few uk ones too?) my car has a dashboard panel that curls up wjere it ought to meet the windscreen air grille. I'm told this is due to being baked under the 'rising sun'! When I had the ineterio re-trimmed I asked if they could sort this and, after a quick look they decided it was a massive job, stripping out the entire dash to re-build it. This sounds like a load of old hairy bill hooks to me, has anyone out there in forum land done it? - Is there a way of lifting the windscreen grille and putting it back with a wider (say stainless??) trim to hold down the curling dash edge?

As above really, not sure I like it, think it dates the car slightly! I have been told to heat it up with a hair dryer, has anyone tried this? I have removed a small section and it has left a little bit of crap behind I presume this will come off with T-cut?

As previously warned, I've now got two questions about pulleys - which ones should be changed when doing the second timing belt change (i.e. it had one 45,000 miles ago and is now due for another one at 90,000 miles). To start, here's the diag The 3 pulleys are marked yellow and the numbers are marked with red. 13077 + B is included in the kit and some people recommend replacing the other 2 as well particularly if the car is over 10 yrs old. The 2nd Q is can anyone help me sort out the numbers and prices? As you can see from this list, the prices are all fubared. The centre top one is OK But the 13070M assembly is $120 or so vs a UK list o…

Looking into buying new wheels. So the choice looks to be 17's or 18's. Before I go in for it at the deep end what's the best width of wheel front and back, do I have a choice!! Along with the corresponding best sized tyres front and back. Don't want no skinny buggars but no fouling of arches. Currently running stock UK set-up alloys. What are you guys wearing as rubbers!!!!!!!!! All advice greatly appreciated

Now before anyone starts, I did check on the search and read through nearly all of the 103 posts including the words "timing belt" in the past year AND checked the parts catalogue on http://www.300zx.lv AND looked at Courtesy who don't exactly help as they make up the last half of their part numbers. hehehe lol :D The question is are there different timing belts for Japanese 2+2 TTs to UK or US. The question arose because that's what the Nissan dealer said a few years ago. He fitted 13028-45P25 The timing belt as any fule kno is the bit indicated 13028M on this here diag if it comes out When I try to put this into the parts database it uses 13028-45P8…

Hi all, I am looking to buy a 300ZX TT but would like some knowledge on the car in general before I purchase one. I have been looking at adverts etc. Looking at a 95 -96 model and just wanted some help on what to look for and what problems the car develops etc etc. Any help would be great and hope this post is in the right place? Cheers Jay

This is both the problem and the solution. I've gained a lot through using this forum so I thought I'd give a little back. Two weeks ago I was driving very casually at about 30mph when I noticed a sudden drop in power. When I came to the next set of traffic lights I noticed that the engine was running rough and the idle was low. It sounded like it was not firing on all cyclinders. If you revved it up it seemed to get better above 2000 rpm, but the car still lacked power. A local garage helped reveal that it was number 3 cyclinder that was not working, but they could not see why. Swapping the ignition coils had made no difference, so I (well, my Dad actually) fig…

I've got the first geneation 300zx n/a1990 engine with the cronic valve train knock. I need to know weather it's better to replace my whole engine with a japaness import motor for 2,000 or rebuild my whole engine? Does anyone know what the actual problem with the 1990 first run of the 300zx n/a car was?

'Lo all, As you may know my Zed is idling like a bitch at the moment, really lumpy. I'm having lots of practice at left foot braking in traffic though, which is nice ;) But I have found, If I drive really gently when the car is cold untill I hit traffic, as soon as I get to the traffic the car is nearly undriveable. The idle makes the car lurch foward at slow speeds and it keeps trying to stall. This will continue to happen till I get the chance to boost a little, after that it's a lot better. But, if I start the car and push it a little when first moving off, (not rag the tits off it  ) Just get the boost into the positive part of the gauge for a f…

So reading up on the differences between auto and manual tt's, the obvious main 2 are the size of the turbo's and milder cams in the auto. Has anyone spec'd up the cams in their auto? You don't seem to read about it? And where would that fit in the scheme of things with bigger intercoolers and turbo's? I know SE do a bit of cam work.

I seem to remember some-one on here saying they were going to create an electric gadget that automatically folded the wing mirrors in when the engine was turned off, instead of manually having to press the button (all that effort!) Ring any bells with any one? any one got something like this on their Z? Cheers Mark

Hi! I wonder if any of you can help? I have a set of ERGLANZ alloy wheels fitted to my Z. They are 6 spoke in a three spoke design (see my rides page) and have a cover over the 5 wheel nuts, secured with a bloody ENORMOUS central locking nut. The problem is....... over the years various tyre shops without the right sized spanner have had a go at the central nuts, resulting in them now being buggered to schit. They have tried the good old hammer and chisel approach I think:mad: I have been to my local engineering company, who would be happy to make me a replacement set of nuts for £96 EACH!!! I have looked on Google for ERGLANZ but coz it's a Jap…

if you don't have written proof in your service history, is there any way to ascertain whether you have had the above or not ? I mean some people will call oil/filters/plugs etc. a major service but that's not a proper 60k service for a zed.
