General Discussions - 300ZX Related

At long last i have finally fitted the new water pump, themostat and water pipes, must say i do feel a great sense of achievement after suceeding at long last, on inspection of the pump it seems there was sod all wrong with it and it was just the liquid gasket that had failed, but i decided that a new one couldnt hurt anyway, like wise with the thermostat and water pipes. When I was doing it I swore I would NEVER take it apart myself again, but now im not so sure, think I might do all the belts this week!!!! (except cam belt, thats outa my leauge!) my 300zx tt started reving high, its ok for the first hour then the revs go up to about 1000 rpm, could it be the tps?:confused:

HI ALL anybody know of a way of changing yr timing belt without lining all the timing marks up , because as from yesterday i found out how to and what an easy job it is so the next time i do mine i shall be using this new way of changing it you may scoff and say e don,t know wat e,s on about but the mechanically minded of u may know of this method already. so any guesses will b welcome ,,, should make a good debate so lets hear from u RSVP cully z:D :D :D

right now iv got myself sortet with a jwt chip so a boost controler is next on the shoppin list. so which 1 so many 2 choose from! any advice much appretiated :D

I am doing the Bake Bean trick again to find boost leaks. I have found one. underneath the passenger side turbo hose, there was a little black hose which went into an aluminium one but the clip was about 3 inches too high and just clamped around nothing. I have moved it down so no the clamp goes over the hose and alloy tube. But there is one right at the back of the car right in the middle. Any one know where that could be coming from? Its almose coming from the middle of the balance bar. Are there any vacume hoses under there or could it be the big hose that goes into the middle of it? Any ideas? Stuart

Hi Guys (and girls obviously) Can anyone comfortably recommend a workshop to do a conversion on my j-spec TT from auto to manual. I've found a box (although not all the ancilliaries yet). Any thoughts on a going rate for the job ? Cheers Mark

Well the Zed has anyway ... Caught the whiff of hot coolant a couple of times recently, taken a good look round but no sign of where the leak might be. Got home yesterday and the Techtom was indicating a couple of degrees higher than normal, left the car ticking over for a minute or two and the temp went up ! :confused: Finally noticed that it's damp down the back of the rad - bummer. Had lost just over a litre and the expansion tank was empty, so it looks like my shiney new rad from Wazzers Ally Fabrication and Duplication Industries Ltd (RSA) may be getting fitted a little sooner than I planned. Where does one source the metal kickplates that go along the lip of the door? The plastic ones are all very well and good but I'm thinking some nice shiny silver-coloured ones would be better. Anyone know?

Hi folks Do the panels just pull off and are fixed by plastic clips or are they screwed in place? The service manual doesn't seem to have much detail. I think one of the speakers have come loose as there's a knocking sound when I go over certain bumps. Tried the rear suspension but I'm sure it is not the culprit. Cheerz Van

Ive noticed recently that if I coast over harsh bumps in the road the car skips to the right. I think I've isolated it to the right rear that is causing the problem. I've had various theories thrown at me but wondered if it could be any of the following:- 1) Tyre pressures to high on back. I've got 225's on the back pumped to 40psi? 2) One dodgy shocker on that side 3) HICAS f*&ked (Oh god please no!) 4) A bush knackered giving the rear wheel steer a bit more play than it ought to have. 5) Rear anti roll bar loose. Hi, I'm looking to buy my first 300ZX (in the US), but I had a few questions first. I am basically wondering what the differences are between the twin turbo and NA models. Are the engines the same on both the TT and NA models? How difficult would it be to upgrade the NA to a single or twin turbo? In other words is the engine bay lay out the same in the NA as in the TT so it would just be a bolt on job? And in general, are there any benefits/disadvantages of buying the TT or the NA model? I've checked this several times and I am certain my detector beeps far more often in my zed than bad weather car. I know the local hot spots and shop doors that set it off. At first I thought slightly different voltage effect on sensitivity or something coming off the alarm system or engine electrics but cant explain it. Could it be that the zeds alloy bonnet / hood is acting as a radar guide and amplifing signals? Its defo not paranoia.

Hey, A few times whilst braking hard in the dry to avoid stuff (corners, animals, stingers...:D) my front wheels have locked up pretty easily, most of the skiddy sound comes from the pass wheel :confused: When does ABS kick in - I thought it would do whenever the wheel(s) lost grip? The car's got sackfuls of grip round corners, but not so much when braking. Better than any other car I've driven, I'll grant it that, but it seems too easy to do. Anyone else have this? The brakes are stock calipers etc, the pads are the zedworld ones, EBS? Discs look pretty standard, not groved or drilled. Cheers Pete

Turbo charging for dummies... Oh so that's how it works! :D

My alternator has been bugging me for ages now... Has a constant screech (not the belt though) and everytime any load is applied, i.e. turn on the lights, etc, the noise gets louder. Now, its definitely not belt related, and when I took the alternator out to see what was going on, its clear that it's coming from inside, perhaps knackered bearings? Since if I turned the pulley by hand, it makes a kind of quiet squeel. Any suggestions on where I could get a re-con'd one or another one for a decent price, since a new one is mega bucks! Before I drive a couple of hundred miles to have warranty work done, maybe someone else has had similar problem. The speedo has been changed to UK spec but now the needle has started stopping at 10mph when idle, wont work for first 15 miles and is very slow moving down when decelerating. It may be a simple problem with the needle ( I HOPE). Can any one advise. Thanks :confused:

Just failed the MOT for excessive play in the rear lower ball joints . Does anyone know if this is an expensive job? daft Q really! Or is it possible to DIY it.
