Guest witchdoctor
Before I drive a couple of hundred miles to have warranty work done, maybe someone else has had similar problem. The speedo has been changed to UK spec but now the needle has started stopping at 10mph when idle, wont work for first 15 miles and is very slow moving down when decelerating. It may be a simple problem with the needle ( I HOPE). Can any one advise. Thanks
AndyP
Was the speedo head actually changed or just converted to read mph ? If it was converted you may have a dodgy convertor, otherwise you may have a faulty speed sensor (or wiring).
Guest witchdoctor
Only an MPH face was added, no converter or such.
AndyP
So it now only reads up to 120 mph ????
Guest witchdoctor
Yes, though I've noticed aftermarket replacement dials for Jap imports read 190, but thats an after thought
AndyP
Hmmm, so it is possible that the speedo head/needle was damaged when they changed the face. My recomendation would be to get a 2nd hand UK spec speedo, that way you get 180mph speedo, and both the boost and oil pressue in psi rather than Jap metric measurements. To derestrict the car (enable above 112mph) you will need to change the ECU chip or bodge it with one of the speed defensor gizmos. Alternatively, you could put all the Jap spec stuff back and use one of the km/h-mph converter boxes.
Guest witchdoctor
Thanks Andy, I was looking at taking the car to Protech in Bristol for the spped converter and deliminator.
Trevz
my speedo was reading 10% slow, i asked protech in nailsea bristol to have a look and they said it was a faulty converter thingy. (the speedo face is the 180mph one). They fitted a new converter ,one of their own ( small plastic box with 2 or 3 wires coming out) and charged £194. Bit pricey i thought, could have done it myself if i'd known about this site back then. So do it yourself mate! Do u live near Bristol then? Guest Rod dude
witchdoctor - I have exactly same problem. Its bloody awful going through speed cameras. I either have to hope that someone sensible is going through at the same time or slow down to a rediculous speed when I'm going through alone. You dont say whether yours is an auto or manual. Mines an auto and when I did the gearbox test it said that the revolution sensor was screwed . I've got one and should get it fitted this weekend. I'll let you know how I get on. SRRAE
This happened to me too. However it was actually my speedo which was at fault. It is horrific going through speed cameras, as you can judge your speed quite well with the revs, but you are still unsure when you see a Gatso coming up. Guest Rod dude
Couldn't find where to fit the bloody revolution sensor, but have come to the conclusion that the speedo needle must have been put back badly. The way that I diagnosed this was so scientific I'm thinking of patenting the idea. But seeing as you guys are virtually mates I'll let you in on the idea as long as you don't tell ANYONE. What you do is get some speed up, my speedo sticks at around 55 mph so accelerate to 60mph, then slow down so that you are clearly going below 55mph but the speedo hasn't registered it going below that speed ie its stuck. THEN - (and this is the good bit) twat the dashboard really hard repeatedly!!! If the speedo jerks down - its the speedo needle. If it doesnt then there is another problem. Good eh!!! Your all only jealous that you didn't think of that!!! :p Rod
Guest DAB1
This might explain why my car is apparently topping out at 130, maybe it’s doing a lot more, I’ll have to get the GPS going to compare.
Guest flardboy
THEN - (and this is the good bit) twat the dashboard really hard repeatedly!!! If the speedo jerks down - its the speedo needle. lol That's excellent, I've got the same problem so I'll give that a go. My personal feeling is that mine is the speed sensor on the auto box. I've taken my converter out and the bloody speedo still wouldn't move. It did work for a while tonight though, I was on the A12 and I thought, 'Jesus! I'm doing 160!' Then I remembered that I'd taken the converter out and that was kph. Twat. Just not sure how I'll get underneath the Zed to even get at the thing though.
