Can anyone help? My zed has been running a bit rough lately so i did the ecu check and it came back with a code 34 detonation sensor fault. Nissan have quoted me over £800 to have this sensor replaced, they reckon the engine needs to be pulled but acordind to the manual the sensor is near the top of the block. Does anyone know of a zed specialist in the southwest coast? i live in weymouth dorset or a good mechanic ;)

Hello! Is there any way I can find out the month of manufacture for my Zed? I dont trust the V5 cos it was imported - its got a "declared" date. Can I get it from the chassis number? I know where to find the year of manufacture but those places dont say the month  I'm ordering some pcv valves and hoses you see, and there's a distinction between pre- and post-May 1990  Cheers Pete

Somewhere else (I forget where) there was some discussion about model numbers. So I did some research and for those who love the smell of pedantry in the morning here's the list. (Thanks to Mike Feeney and zedhead of ZClub for correcting errors and confirmation.) 240Z had a 2.4l engine straight 6 carbs 260Z = 2.6l straight 6 carbs 280Z = 2.8l straight 6 fuel inj 280ZX = 2.8l straight 6 fuel inj (same engine and trans as 280Z but new everything else) and later a turbo 300ZX (Z31) = 3l V6 na & turbo 300ZX (Z32) = 3l V6 na & tt (completely different to Z31) 350Z = 3.5l V6 na and for the SXs 180SX is 1.8 (aka Silvia in J-land, I believe) S1…

Hi Fellaz, My brakes on my Z feel weak, slowing down seems to take some time, not good - trust me. Any ideas why & what can be done? (Discs, pads are ok) Cheerz!!!

When I first start the car in the morning it takes literally 5 mins of holding the key in the start position and cranking the engine until it starts. When I start the car later on, say three or four hours later it starts straight away no problems. I have been told by one garage that it is a compression problem, and by another that it could be the cold start sensor playing up. Any ideas? If it is compression then this is a head off job and big bill! I just hope it isn't. Thanks, Colin

Hi, I was trying to wire up the inner brake lights for fogs tonight and somehow managed to stop my rear right tail lights form working. I know what I did wrong but the problem I have now is I can;t seem to get the tail lights working on the drivers side. The branke lights and indicators on that side still work fine. 300zx's don't have two seperate fuses per side of tail lights do they ?. The passenger side works fine. Anyone got any ideas ?

Zedworld in my experience provides an honest value for money service difficult to find in the current Zed market. Jeff is an excellent guy who would rather do you a favour than overcharge or present an incomplete job. Reading the current speculations in general chat, I wonder whether Any Duff has chosen the right forum and I do feel he needs to make his point. Duffer is a great guy and the help he has offered to many Zed owners is beyond reproach. However, I am the owner of a small business and from experience I know there is nothing more damaging than implied accusations. Just my two penneth and please do not persecute me for it. I would much rather help anyon…

Hi folks I need a little suggestion; I am planning to purchase my first 300ZX Fairlady, some folks suggest me to get the 2 seater because is much more nice and kool than the 2x2, and also it weights less...is this true?? should I get the 2 seater? also I´ve noticed that some sites I listed here before in the Uk can import you the car from Japan. This will give me the chance to get a 1999 model .Bonsaicars.com good site, they auction everday in tokyo and ship directly inti newport Uk.;)

ok, after reading the thread over concerns of reliability of our cars, & a comparison to the "wonders" of the Mercedes range, it made me chuckle a bit. Merc always has this wonderful reputation of reliabilty. so just to put things int perspective heres some of todays jobs in my Merc workshop: 1st thing this morning C class turns up on transporter. non start, battery keeps going flat. owners fitted a new one let him down in the South of France collected A class for service (3 yrs old, 50k miles) needed front anti roll bar links, worn out. rear radius arms, bearings collapse on those. tyres deformed due to knackered radius arms. earth cable to engine…

I'm currently looking to spruce up my interior with a 5-7.5" LCD monitor of some description, whether it be to run as a TV, DVD, VIdeo, CD or even just a reversing camera... The best value unit I've seen so far is the Centurion DVD56WA DVD with 5.6" TFT LCD priced at £250.00 though this contains neither an in-dash DVD or in-dash monitor. If anyone has this unit or one similar, where have they mounted their monitor. Any pics?? As you have probably gathered, I am not looking to spend £1500.00 on a complete in-dash unit, but I want to try and get something that looks pretty good, on 'a budget'. Any ideas? Any pics? Cheers

I'm looking at getting a boost gauge and I'm really not a fan of aftermarket gauges so has anyone had any experience, or tried this? http://www.impconcepts.com/nissan300zx30psiboostgauge.htm Would be interested to hear any comments. Tim

I've noticed that my Zed only boosts to about 0.6bar.. Ive a Greddy boost gauge that measures it and also the standard one comes upto the line before +7 (presumably meaning its 0.6bar too). Any ideas? Dan

Sad to hear the hassle 300zx_Newbie is having - heartbreaking when you've got your dream car, lashed out some dosh on getting it going and then bang - it all goes pear-shaped again. I really feel for you, mate. This is why I've held off getting a zed for so long. I do a lot of miles and the zed would be my only car. I'm prepared to swallow the higher insurance, petrol and servicing costs that come with having a swish car like the zed, but the cost of having an unreliable car is much more than the money. It seems like the zed - especially the TT - has an air of unreliability about it and I downright refuse to have a car - no matter how good it looks, or fast it go…

My steering in my 89(G) Z has become very heavy, resulting in an almost dislocated shoulder, due to the fact that I park in a multi-storey car park every day. The power steering kicked in briefly a few days ago for about a minute, but has generally given up the ghost. I have taken the car to Western Power steering in Bristol, who are regarded as local experts. They felt that the problem was an electrical problem (including maybe a loose connection) rather than a hydraulic problem. Nissan (main agents) are going to be having a look at the car on thursday, though they have already advised me that they don't have the appropriate electrical testing equipment. …

A mate of mine has just had his gearbox back minus the linkage cover plate which I've fabricated for him, however I've tried turning the input shaft whilst putting it in various gears and I've noticed (in some gears) a clunking noise when it changes from a clockwise rotation to an anti-clockwise direction which suggests a lot of play within. The output shaft turns as it should though. Does anyone know if this noise is normal? Cheers Shaunmac.

Okay folks....I`ve already offered these targa straps free once and screwed up but I will try to be more reliable. I bought a set from AndyZ then found I had some already hidden under the carpet. So if anyone wants them, they are yours for the price of postage (I`ll weigh them in the office and mail them, then you send me a cheque to the value of postage). In addition, I`m buying JeffTT`s old rims, giving me a total of 8 (count them) stock Z alloys. I don`t have enough storage space so if I can do folk a favour its all good as long as you can come to collect. My assortment is as follows: 4x 225 stock rims with rubber (all legal tread) 2x 245 stock rims with …

The electric window on the drivers side features an automatic window up with one press of the button. I wish to disable this feature and want to know how to do it. The reason for doing this is because of my two kids. When I am working on the car (which is most weekends!) they like to help me. I am concerned that if they put their head out of the window and accidentally press the button... The window doesn't stop, even if there is an obstruction. So you can see why I want to do this. Your help is as ever appreciated. Colin
