  3. Why does my car start better when its been standing for a few days? My Z starts up normally like every one elses I suspect, only needing a few turns before the car starts. But if my car has not been started for a few days, I hardly get time to turn to key before the starts up. I dont even hear the starter motor going. Why does it start better after being left? Strange Stuart

I got the gearbox out and all the pipes and electrics are disconnected so almost ready to lift the big lump of junk out ;) I read in the engine removal tech article on twinturbo.net that you have to disconnect the steering universal joints as part of the process. Is this right as the steering rack seems to be under the engine on the subframe? or is it bolted to the block? If so, how do they come apart?

My 300 Z is ill. If I build up the revs in 1st, I can redline it no probs but under any boost, it holds back at 6000 rpm plus and never reaches 7000 rpm! The plugs seem fine and I'm sure it's not a weak spark issue. Has anyone else encountered this tw*tty problem? Could it be fuel delivery problems? Cheers Shaunmac.

I just dropped a line to ACE ALLOYS, who offer a mobile alloy wheel refurbishment service. I need this desperately, but my rims are volk racing forged split alloys. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who knows anything about ACE ALLOYS and also if there are any other wheel refurb outfits in the Manchester area.

I'll be ready to lift the engine this weekend but not quite sure how to fix the chains to it. I called Nissan to get the proper engine slingers but they have to be ordered from Japan with about 6 weeks for delivery :( Does anyone have a pair I can borrow or any tips on fastening the chains without them? Chris.

Hello all. Has anyone tried Triplus daylighter power headlamp bulbs. I`ve just been talking to someone at a local bodyshop and we got talking about the the hopeless lights on the Z. He told me about these and supposedley, according to the leaflet I`ve got............."The Triplus high power bulbs emit double the light of your standard car light bulbs and are used in rallying, racing and off road cars. The bulbs are Xenon gas filled and emit a super white light, with a blue shine and power of up to 145 Watts....." Any advice or comments about these would be welcomed. Cheers Petey

I am thinking of buying a car to play with over the next 4-5 years as a project. Something to tinker with and play on during massive school hols. If I decided to do a body up rebuild what sort of things would you guys be doing in such a project. What sort of power output is the 300zx engine good for? What sort of costs are associated with some of the mods you guys have done? The idea would be that I did all the work (except for any stuff requiring specialist kit) to keep the costs down. What are the big weaknesses in the 300zx that I could work on in such a project. I would be really interested in finding out how much some of you guys have spent …

  18. I was minding my own business doing something else when a post from http://www.zclub.net led me to the following. They look really techy and (if they work) should help anyone who is trying to work out a) how fast am I going when I've got non-standard (or standard, come to that) wheels at which revs in which gear http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/transmission_300zx_tt.html b) techy things about turbos. http://www.turbofast.com.au/tfcalc.html#readme AndyP - might be worth a link from your compendium? Cheers - Gio

Hi, I saw the thread about the Version S and i have been meaning to ask what the badge on the back of my jap import NA is, i think it says something like Tommy Maiken (from memory, its hard to tell because it is in silver & in joined up writing i.e. a signature). Is this some sort of different version, perhaps a limited edition? Or has some plonker stuck it on at some point for some reason?? Any ideas, I could take a photo of it, if that helps... Cheers Barry
