If I set the temperature of the climate control on my 1990 UK TT to anything less than ambient you get a strange loud knocking sound. Sort of 4-5 knocks then 10 seconds silence, repeating. The knocks are coming from inside the dashboard in the vicinity of the windscreen demister Aircon seems to work OK. I certainly get hot/cold air through the vents as appropriate to the temperature setting Any ideas? Sounds like a dashboard off job. Is this a DIY job and if so are there any instructions on how to do it. How long should it take. Might sound tight but she's now at an age where any major costs mean a trip to the scrapyard. Sob :(

Well boys and girls, after nearly 2 years of Z ownership, by baby let me down and it was all due to me putting off some regular maintenance that I should have asked Jeff to do before Xmas. Anyway, to cut a long story short, the fan belt snapped, the dash lit up like a xmas tree and before I knew it, the temp was going through the roof. Managed to pull over within 5 seconds of noticing the high temp so I hope nothing else is broken or bent. Funny thing is, just before I pulled over, I spotted something fly out behind me but thought nothing of it. Opened the bonnet and it wasn't till I mentioned to Jeff over the phone that there were funny strands everywhere that …

hi just bought a Raid snap off steering wheeel adaptor for my momo steering wheel. the blasted thing did not fit properly ie. the snap off adaptor is idealy supossed to lie behind the spokes of the steering wheel but in my case they were at a slight angle so from "head on" (infront off the wheel) you could see the arms of the adapter. the problem has obviously got to do with the screws on the steering wheel and how they line up with the adapter!! anybody got any suggestions. i have returned the adapter and am hoping the forum will come to my rescue. anyway, what do poeple think off the snap off steering wheels. are they a good think? help needed. rav

Advice or ideas please. I've got an induction kit that used to be available from the Z centre involving 2 cone filters. Luke doesn't do them anymore so I need 2x70mm cones to replace them with but as there's no point in 2 anyway it seems like a waste of money. I wondered if anyone has moddified one. If I cut the pipe before it forks it doesn't leave much room for the length of a filter. Ideas welcome. I don't want to buy a whole induction kit.

Everyone at some point seems to have trouble with their TPS but mine seems to be the wires as they must be broken where it bend back on itself. Can you buy this part, as my local Nissan dealer seem to think they cant get it and it's part of the loom. I thought it was a wire about 6" long but not to sure now.

good evening to all. the question is, would replacing the pcv valves at 70,000 klm make any difference to performance if blocked or dirty. the thing is I cleaned throttle bodies out about 1 month ago (very black) and since that, drivers side exhaust started smoking after engines warmed up in a morning, and now passenger side has started the same all in the the space of a month (since cleaning t/bs) and some times it feels down on power???? can any one help?? JIM:confused:

Does anyone have a picture of what the piston crown looks like on an NA piston? (For the VG30DE engine obviously) The new set of JE pistons I've just recieved are very different from the last set I had, since the compression volume space in the crown on this new set is approx half of that of both my old OEM pistons, and the last set of JE pistons I ordered last year. Any pics, or a good description would be great. Cheers Simon.

Need some help. As most of you know I recently purchased another 300zx. I picked this car up at a good price, as it had never been registered in this country and the guy just wanted to make his money back. He bought a 2+0 but wanted a 2+2. So he sold the 2+0 to me. When I bought the car the guy was going away on business that evening. He says he has all the paper work, i.e. de-reg certificate and customs forms etc. But couldn't find them in the short period of time he had to look for them. He said that he would call me when I he got back and then we could trade then. But I decided to give him the money and take the car with a signed agreement between us that h…

Without the painfull labouring of cleaning every nook and cranny, has anyone a solution for cleaning the engine bay etc. Previous vehicles I've cleaned with steam or simple jet spray but these 300's resemble the national grid. Cheers

1)My speedo has stopped working, cuts in some times, but generally dead as the proverbial, Any clues? 2) Was taking a friend of mine for a spin on that well known private race track "caterham bends". Due to the above prob have no idea what speed I was doing but estimate in the middle to high eighties and letting it rev higher than I would normally. On an overtak, I wasnt watching the rev counter but knew it was in the 5k range and the limiter cut in! WTF? It doesnt redline till 7k! I tried it again and the same happened. Is this usual? or can I raise the limiter? Cheers Jock

Is it a good price, is Power Flow any good, do prefere the mongoose but thats an extra £100 with no fitting and money is a little short as we have a new addition to the family. Should I hold on alittle longer and go for the mongoose. Can any one point me the right way to go. Need to do something soon as MOT is due next month. Tony :(

Yesterday a stupid kid on a bike decided to play chicken with me and an on-coming car, the kid saw us and still swerved across the road then went across the front of me a few feet in front of my bumper! Now either my brakes are really, really good (Unlikely) or my ABS is faulty because there was a bit of tyre sqealing and no "thumping" through the brake pedal. I was only doing about 20mph but it's my understanding ABS stops the wheels locking up, so no sqealing tyres when slamming on. Is my ABS non functioning (The ABS light hasn't come on)? Does ABS only work at certain speeds (doubt it)? or can you still lock up sometimes with ABS? In my previous …

Hi, I've been looking at a 1990 Z that has supposedly got only 27,500 miles on it which are BIMTA certified. My question is how reliable are these BIMTA certificates and are there any ways that they can be got around to cover up high mileage? Call me a pessimist, but 27.5k on a 13 year old car just seems a little TOO low!!
