General Discussions - 300ZX Related

I have a 91 N/A Jap spec 300ZX, and cannot select reverse gear. Gearbox was running perfect, then I had some probs getting it into reverse once or twice, but with a bit of fiddling, it did go in. But now it wont go in at all. Any ideas? :mad:

hi all my z,,s all done new prop centre bearing and gearbox output shaft seal all fitted . no blinking transmission leak now thank god(fed up of watching smoke from leak coming up through bonnet all the time while stopped in traffic) so thats finally done. nissan in newport are a waste of time i gave them the right gearbox numbers for the right seal and they still got the wrong 1 . haley wales had one in their place for only £3.50 fitted a treat now no leak . i well appy driving home today targas off no bad vibes off car and no smell as well and done all the work myself so i learn,t about me z the same time marvellous eh! one appy chappy cully z…

Yesterday a stupid kid on a bike decided to play chicken with me and an on-coming car, the kid saw us and still swerved across the road then went across the front of me a few feet in front of my bumper! :mad: Now either my brakes are really, really good (Unlikely) or my ABS is faulty because there was a bit of tyre sqealing and no "thumping" through the brake pedal. I was only doing about 20mph but it's my understanding ABS stops the wheels locking up, so no sqealing tyres when slamming on. Is my ABS non functioning (The ABS light hasn't come on)? Does ABS only work at certain speeds (doubt it)? or can you still lock up sometimes with ABS? In my previous …

My radiator water has always been a nice bright green colour... Checked it yesterday and its rust coloured!!! Im guessing this is due to the fact that ive been driving it hard, whats the best way to flush the system? Dan

Hi, I've been looking at a 1990 Z that has supposedly got only 27,500 miles on it which are BIMTA certified. My question is how reliable are these BIMTA certificates and are there any ways that they can be got around to cover up high mileage? Call me a pessimist, but 27.5k on a 13 year old car just seems a little TOO low!!

hi guys,due to a new venture i may need to sell the zed:( anyway does anyone know roughly what i should ask for the car spec as follows: 89 j spec swb targa tops twin turbo manual(i believe the rarest) running 14psi(se nissan boost upgrade) ap paddle clutch clifford concept 300 alarm red in colour newish uprated front brakes(3g discs and green stuff pads) just been serviced including timing belt change 70,000miles wheels just refurbed also with fairly new avon tyres all round 225's front and 245's rear thanks guys and hopefully its not worth enough to get rid of;)

Having just bought my first 300zx, (import, non turbo) 1992 with 53,000 miles, I am wondering when it would be due for its first cam belt change (assuming it has not had one) and what would be an average cost. Thanks John

Does anyone know the law on removing the cats, I've just had it done on a 92 import (1 had blown) and after reading earlier posts and scouring the net on law, I'm still not sure. My early understanding on imports was pre 93 was ok to remove without MOT problems as you were allowed an extra few % on emissions.

Can anybody tell me what is the best way to make a N/A Z go fast? Can I fitted a Turbo in it? thanks

...or maybe I was just vewy vewy lucky!:) I've had a problem with the short top hose that goes into the front of the engine for some time (same problem as Beermonster) I've been keeping the old girl topped up with water on a daily basis, but yesterday I went out and got stuck in the most horrendous traffic in London. I encountered 4 major road closures and a HUGE factory fire in Hackney. Spent ages just sitting in the burning sun (t-tops off!:D ) going nowhere fast. My offside dipped beam isn't working. When I turn the dipped beam on, all other headlights come on, but rather dimly. All bulbs are OK. I've tested the voltage across the dipped beam on dip, and it's zero. When I turn on main beam, it goes to 12V. Relay? Dodgy earth? Ideas anyone? Cheers, Matt.

Whilst driving around the ring road a vw polo (shistey looking green thing about a C reg) in front of me started to boot it, so i shot up behind him. We then got along side it at the lights and when we pulled off HE pulled away from me!!!! hi guys, had a couple of rear boots fitted the other day as the old ones were down to the wire(Well almost) and the fronts were changed about 4 months or 5000 miles ago. Looking at the tread of the front tyres, they're starting to wear badly again on the inside, which brings me back to the negative camber problem again. Has anyone managed to source a kit from the UK yet? Last time i casually inquired, which was ages ago, a member was expecting to get his hands on some. Any help or pointers would be appreciated. I want to buy a 300ZX. I have seen about a dozen cars including non turbos which have ranged in price from £5000 to £8500. What do I need to look for when buying. Are imports better than UK cars. Where can I get a good car. :)

I mean i could easily make that crappy wire, it's less than a floppy's worth of software which i expect is only very simple. But i don't know what that little black box is, which mean i can't make 1 i have to buy it! Surely it should be like a $50 product. Beautiful night last night, thought I'd take the Zed for a pint with the wife. Parked outside a busy pub right by the sea. Lots of onlookers-Big smile!!! Gets back in the car a little later with lots of onlookers again, turn the key and my face is as red as my paintwork. Why does that squeal when the starter motor won't turn have to be so loud!!! Fortunately the third turn of the key and we were off, pretty quickly!!!!!! So it looks like replacement as although it hasn't done this for a couple of months embarrasing moments in life should always tried to be avoided.
