OK I'm not yet a Z owner but looking to be. What can I expect to pay for insurance with full no-claims, age 40+ doing say 15k per year fully comp. Just looking for ball park ideas as to what is good and what is daft. Any companies people can recommend would be appreciated too. Must say the links here on the BBS are fantastic - done lots of reading tonite. Sparks

I took the Z out today for a drive to B&Q, drove home no problems at a normal speed 60-70 on 'A' Road....... Pulled up at home, unloaded Z (few plants!) and switched her off, went inside and the next door neighbour knocked the door and told me my car was leaking!?!? I went outside to see the Z had dumped some coolant on the road on the passenger side about 12 inches from the front and about 6 inches from wheel arch, looked more than there was but it looked a lot!! It stopped and then I waited for it to cool down and checked the radiator which seemed to be full enough, I started the Z back up and let it run for 5-7 minutes and watched the are…

Ok, searched for a while now and found lots of possibilities but here's my problem... On the last 2 hot days I've driven the zed the pass side exhausts have been blowing blue smoke intermittantly. At one stage the there was loads of the kak, and today when I was stationary and opened the throttle to see the effect on the smoke, the driv side exhaust backfired! Today on the way to Santa Pod, in the morning the car felt sluggish and wouldn't boost fully, at some points it felt lumpy like a cylinder wasn't firing. But one the way home it was fine, no smoke, drove fine. This has happened before when the weather's hot, but its always fine when cool. A…

Heres a question. I have been offered NOS for my zed. 10lb stainless bottle, twin intake misters, 100bhp needles, all the hosing, switches, valves etc. Fitted to my NA for the princely sum of £900. The price is not an issue. I thought about selling my NA and buying a TT, but would prefer to have the driveability of the NA 90 % of the time and the power of the turbo for the odd traffic light GP, A-road dash etc. So what do you think? My concerns are Reliability Would I want need a traction control (could u use TC with NOS?) Any advice opinion welcome

Personally I cant see why you shouldn't, but I know very little about them. I ask as today having a little fun on a dual carrage way, I floored, and at about 5,000-5,500 RPM I could hear a loud blowing/hissing noise. Is this the wastegate releasing the extra air? It could be a turbo leak but I know I have a very small one at the back but I could only just hear it when I had 8PSI in the engine, but I cant see it making that much noise that I can hear it over the engine and wind noise. Any ideas what it could be? Stuart

Hi all, Just wondering how far up the stick do you all fill her up with oil, in my subaru and evo i used to put fill it to about half way on the stick between top and bottom. I was advised this by a scooby specialist. Its got something to do with boost. Just wondering how much oil are we supposed to put in. I was told it was 4.4 litres. Ray

Hi Guys First post here and I appreciate the knowledge on this furom. I have recently bought a uk 94 300zxtt in pretty excellent condition apart from the fact that the previous owner smoked cigars inside the car with all the windows up and the aircon on. I have got a "wynns" aircon deoderiser from halfords and have to spray it into the aircon intake, which the instructions say are usually arround the footwell. Having spent ages upside down in the foot well I have given up on where the intake lives. Can anyone help? Cheers ........Ady

Is there anyone local (Derby) that can professionally clean my engine bay? It's minging!!! I understand you can't steam clean them, unless you take it for a proper long run immediately after, so it's obviously going to be a hand and cloth job. I'd do it myself but I can't be arsed... Regards, Peter

Guys, As some of you know the car had been off the road for a fair few months. Well option came to the rescue after £4000....... They now advise that I get all the injector plugs renewed and the wiring traced back to check for cracks etc but its gonna cost about £450 all in. Now, the plugs only cost £6 each but I really cant afford another £500 at the moment, I aint rich and I dont pertend to be but if they say it needs doing then I guess it wise!!! They way that he showed me it need doing was to move one of the injectors very slightly with his finger and the the car started missing, touch wood! its been fine since but I really would like to get thes…

At long last i have finally fitted the new water pump, themostat and water pipes, must say i do feel a great sense of achievement after suceeding at long last, on inspection of the pump it seems there was sod all wrong with it and it was just the liquid gasket that had failed, but i decided that a new one couldnt hurt anyway, like wise with the thermostat and water pipes. When I was doing it I swore I would NEVER take it apart myself again, but now im not so sure, think I might do all the belts this week!!!! (except cam belt, thats outa my leauge!) Pic of my fixed car celebrations!

I am doing the Bake Bean trick again to find boost leaks. I have found one. underneath the passenger side turbo hose, there was a little black hose which went into an aluminium one but the clip was about 3 inches too high and just clamped around nothing. I have moved it down so no the clamp goes over the hose and alloy tube. But there is one right at the back of the car right in the middle. Any one know where that could be coming from? Its almose coming from the middle of the balance bar. Are there any vacume hoses under there or could it be the big hose that goes into the middle of it? Any ideas? Stuart

Well the Zed has anyway ... Caught the whiff of hot coolant a couple of times recently, taken a good look round but no sign of where the leak might be. Got home yesterday and the Techtom was indicating a couple of degrees higher than normal, left the car ticking over for a minute or two and the temp went up ! Finally noticed that it's damp down the back of the rad - bummer. Had lost just over a litre and the expansion tank was empty, so it looks like my shiney new rad from Wazzers Ally Fabrication and Duplication Industries Ltd (RSA) may be getting fitted a little sooner than I planned. Just hoping that I don't have to do the water pump as well (prob …

Where does one source the metal kickplates that go along the lip of the door? The plastic ones are all very well and good but I'm thinking some nice shiny silver-coloured ones would be better. Anyone know?
