I've noticed that a slow speeds or whilst slowy moving within traffic, the brakes make a noise similar to a large spring expanding or retracting and now its starting to bug me. The brakes seem to work normally and at first I thought it was the pedal but on closer inspection it sounds as if its the caliper. Has anyone had similar experience. I'm hoping its just ageeee. :confused:

Sounds like caliper creak to me! Its quite common I think.

 

I remember someone saying there's nothing you can do about it-but I don't believe it!

I get a bit of that and it gets worse the more the brake pads are worn down - have a look at them and see if they need changing...

New pads and it doesnt do it at all and then towards the end of their life as the pad material gets a bit on the low side the creak starts to happen, and gets worse the more the pad wears down.

If thats all it is then no drama but I agree, It can be anoying and surely theres a simple fix without stripping down.

I get it too. It's a real PITA when you've got the targas off in the nice weather. You cruise along, feeling cool, apply the brakes....and everyone in the High Street looks round to see where the bloody awful creaking/popping noise is from:rolleyes: :mad:

Right, this must be some silly design fault on Nissans part. As time goes on it will only bug me more and as suggested, replacing the pads half worn will cure this irretent noise but then is this not an unnecessary cost. A cure must be sought as I've never come accross its likes before :rolleyes: So to the drawing board and probably a lot of trial and error, expect at this point I'l get the wife to remove and refit the wheels, she does everything else well.:D

Had a similar problem to this my self. Have a look at the pad with the wheels off but still in the caliper. On my pads there are two little black wings (only way to describe them) on closest to the centre. One of these had bent in and was rubbing, have a look to make sure they are all level. Bent this back level and all was well. Other than an noise the brakes were fine and how it got like this i'll never know.

yep, I also get the brake creak on the front but as an added bonus I also get a high pitched squeel when I brake hard, aren't I blessed, sure makes heads turn.

I think its the little silver shims that go behind the pads are to blame, mine used to suffer from it, when i had new pads it would clear up for a while, but when i fitted the pads myself i was going to fit new shims which would be easy but as it was in the evening nissan was closed, so i spent a great deal of time cleanining the shims and removing the baked on shite that had accumulated over time, turned out theyre shiney silver underneath, not black!! then i put some copper grease on em and put them back on and all is fine now. I would have expected the creek to come back by now, but so far so good.

 

So in my opinion, clean up the shims, i reckon that will fix it.
