Guest sihibbs
I have a number of probs with the Z atm. This is currently top of my list. Had very bad vibration from under car: CSB replaced - vibration less. Gearbox mount replaced - vibration almost gone. but, when i accelerate quickly or need alot of rpms at low speed such as pulling away on steep incline the vibration is back. I glimpsed something somewhere about propshaft balancing - could this cause the vibration - that garage never mentioned anything about balancing it after the work?? I live in Richmond, if this could be the problem is this something a local garage can do easily or do i need somewhere more specialist? have not been able to find anywhere near here that i feel very compentant about this type of car - anyone recommend somewher i can take it for this (and other jobs) which isnt too far? Don't quite know how living in Richmond could be the problem. ;) Have you had the wheels rebalanced? or checked that the brake disks are sitting flush with the hubs? I ask this as i had a puncture repaired earlier in the week, I watched the muppet balance the wheel and it all seemed okay, but I now have a horrendous vibration when travelling at any real speed. Guest sihibbs
aye i can see what ur gettign at but even when moving very slowly but high revs such as pulling away up a steep incline and i can feel the vibrations just the same so its not the speed of the wheels turning affecting it
Guest grandadg90
Might be the rear gearbox mount, worth having checked out.
Guest sihibbs
is there two gearbox mounts?
Guest sihibbs
just that the garage did do the gearbox mount - thought it was the rear and was only one? feel like im never gonna solve this problem, been going on now for over 6 months :/

ChrisC
The prop shaft is balanced at the factory with weights added to get it just right. If the prop has been off and not bolted onto the front section in the same orientation it was, you can get vibration. Separate the 2 sections and rotate it a quarter of a turn then try it. Keep doing this until it goes away.
Jack
...what Chris says could be the answer, also it's possible to do the same at the point where the prop meets the rear diff - I would have thought this is favourite - also the exhaust is not in the way. Try it. Remove the 4 bolts and rotate the prop in relation to the diff 90 degrees - bolt it all back together and give it a run. I did this whilst trying to solve the same sounding problems. It seemed to change the speed at which the vibrations occured - only the rear gearbox mount solved the problem. It's worth noting that when the prop is removed both centre and rear flange connections need to be marked so that they are aligned correctly when replaced - so ideally you should be able to get under the car and see alignment (chalk) marks placed there by your mechanic. Also if they've used a 2nd hand rear gearbox mount then it'll probably be no good. You can easily increase the life of a rear mount by placing a drilled plate between it and the cross member it sits on. It raises the mount, but does not increase it's flexibility. The vibes go to some extent, but a roughness remains. good luck Jack
