ygb
I've just bought my second 300ZX, which appears to be up to scratch, with FSH (inc. Japanese etc). It had an MOT just before I bought it, and was fitted with new pads. The previous owner has advised me that the loud sqeaking noises when breaking have only been there since the new pads were fitted. Is it possible that it is simply because the pads are new, or is it likely to be something else???
b19rks
Is it on the front, rear or both?? I know there are two metal shims behind each pad whih get gummed up with brake dust and crap after time, many garages dont bother to scrape most of this off. But i would describe the noise as more of a creek than a squeak. Might be worth taking them out and checking all the pins etc are in right. AndyP
Yup, those shims should be cleaned and lubricated lightly with Copaslip. That will probably cure it (presuming the shims are actually there!)
james300
Brand new pads might squeek for a while but def check your shims aren't gooed up! As Andy said copaslip will prob cure it, b19rks, think what you mention is "caliper creek", mine does this when my pads wear down a bit, forcing the pistons out further, I suppose. Its quite an annoying noise though! I've been told there isn't much you can do about it, but sure a strip down would sort it?
