Adrian Flux Cult Classics - Nissan 300ZX
Yes, I gave CL the complete list of mods and in my case they were happy to insure without referring to the underwriters. I had asked Howard (BigH) who he was insuring his beast with and he said CL for a sensible premium. The person who dealt with my application was actually interested in the car which was nice.

It was all those baffles with their spot welded overlapping seams I was thinking of.

Adrian Flux Cult Classics - Nissan 300ZX
My insurer (Classicline Insurance) just asked me for six photos and the value I had in mind which they agreed to. That gives me a starting point to build up from. When the final engine work etc is completed they will revise the valuation again. That may involve their own people or a recognised third party depending on the value I think the car is worth at that time and how they feel about it. I've been a member of the ZClub for many years and will use their valuation service if required. At the end of the day the higher the agreed valuation is the more risk they are insuring against and the higher the premium is likely to be.

The Ambient temperature sensor lives under the plastic front bumper reinforcement bar. The sensor in the roof is passenger cell temperature.

Fuel smell
Can't answer the first part but I would suggest that they are not subjected to the hot heat cycles of the engine bay which harden rubber pipes over time. Along with plastic connectors and engine harnesses.

Fuel smell
If you do replace the old style clamps with the new spring clamps it is sensible to replace the hoses at the same time. You can buy a 2.2m (7ft) Nissan fuel hose and cut to the individual lengths required. https://conceptzperformance.com/nissan-infiniti-nissan-oem-high-pressure-fuel-hose-kit-7ft-516-8mm-a6d40-n7686-universal_p_716.php

Fuel smell
For those using old style screw clamps for their fuel lines - Nissan fixed the fuel clamp problem later in the Z32 production cycle with spring clips (part # 16439-16E0A) which allow for the contraction of the pipes with age.

You might want to check your fuel damper: http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/general/view/2610744/Here-is-how-it-works.html

Poorly running Z out of hibernation.
To start these are the things to check from a Power Balance Check (right hand list below): Check the ignition and injector connections for cylinder 4 for corrosion/continuity. Then: and: Check the PTU connectors for corrosion/continuity.

Dashboard lights
I've had a look into this and there may be a way. Note, I have NOT checked this out on my car and so it is at you own risk to try it out. From the FSM, the Time Control Unit (TCU) controls the ON/OFF and dimming of the illumination lights. See 11 below. The TCU receives its signal for the exterior lights being switched on (both side and mains) on through pin 6 on the TCU. 0v when they are off and +12V when switched on. If that signal is cut, then the TCU won't know when the exterior lights are on and should leave all the instrumention lights on daylight brightness at all times (with the ignition switch on). The wiring harness shows that the TCU pin 6 wire is G/R (green with red strip). The cut needs to be near the TCU as the same signal is used elsewhere in the car. Note - there may be side effects with the TCU's other control functions (see table above) also using this signal. I don't think there are but you will have to see. If the modification doesn't work reconnect the cut wire. The TCU is located behind the drivers kickspace panel (small white plastic box with a green relay on one side).
