Turbo failure discussion
Had a thought about turbo failure that I think may be interesting to discuss, we all have read the painful tales of woe here when your favourite toy starts smoking and the dreaded turbo failure hits you in the pocket. Having been around scene since it started I have read hundreds of such failures and yes in the early days they were mostly standard turbo`s on cars approaching say 100k miles and many having been subject to sketchy or careless servicing by previous owner`s. As the scene has taken its lead from the US many, many big build engines or just turbo changes have now been less likely to be rebuilt standard units but upgrades or hybrids from the US and such like. However the turbo failures seem to still occur, but the difference I see is if and when they do its never on 100k miles but way less some under 5k miles, also I read of standard rebuild units failing with low miles on too. So I guess what I am thinking is why do the original units even when badly serviced last so long when very expensive hybrids seem to have a failure rate of their own with way less miles on, and equally rebuilt units can fail it kind of begs the question is it better to buy new units from Nissan if available? even if the cost is way more expensive in the first instance, rebuilds simply do not seem to last so long and of course doing the job twice is always more expensive. Of course there is many variables that can effect the life of the turbo`s and as the original factory ones were fitted to a brand new engine that could be the key, but high quality engine rebuilds still can suffer from the dreaded turbo failure which seems madness. Of course there may be some who have rebuilt or big turbo`s here with no problem, but most zeds here do not do big miles any more so it can be difficult to be sure, has anyone done 100k on hybrids with no problems? Thoughts ?? Jeff

PS & Auto fluid
ATF Dexron ll was is an old formulation from the seventies, it was changed to Dedxron ll D to suit newer style transmissions in the eighties with addition surface/ friction modifiers, however it suffer`s from hygroscopic issues despite several re-blends and as it is not see easy to find, so on the face of it Dexron lll is the better bet, either Triple QX or Granville will be fine for both the automatic gearbox and the power steering. Weird e-mail
Well this is a new one on me e-mail received yesterday, badly written and jumbled request to buy gearbox`s by bank transfer and also in person, just click the link ! yeh right!! Jeff Hello, I want to buy manual gear boxes. I want an invoice without VAT. I will give you my VAT code and provide proof that the merchandise comes out of UK. Please fill in the table, the number of pieces that you can sell me and the final and a fair price and send me back the table. In the right column of the table, I passed the price. Please correct me if I am wrong. I want to ask you to do me a real serious offer. Their payment is made in full with a bank transfer from their same-day lift. Please tell me how long does it take to have them in stock, to solve the transport. Can you give me an approximate date and an address, so I can come to UK to pay and pick up the goods? I want a price for WV Passat, Opel, Audi or other brand and model - diesel, 6 gear - the gear boxes also to be manual. Give me a full list with prices of your manual gear boxes. Thanks, waiting for an offer Regards Claudiu Borz 0040.745.353.281

UK TT speedo adjustment
Yes I guess non turbo diff will make it read wrong, fitting an n/a speed sensor would correct it though. Jeff

Front cooler pipes
Yes think the cooler for the power steering on a road car is a little over the top, was only on UK cars, link it out will not cause any issues. Jeff

UK TT speedo adjustment
Uk clocks should fit straight in without any need to adjust anything. Jeff
-
Front cooler pipes
Got to a hydraulics place and buy high pressure rubber pipe, makes installation so much easier and as it is the same grade as that on a JCB there is no risk of a pipe bursting, where it meets metal pipe use two clips. Jeff

UK CAR ???? How do I 100% Prove ? Urgent hep needed please
Seen many zeds with different bumpers both ways, many body shops who did crash repairs in years gone by did not know the difference and fitted UK ones to imports and yes seen it the other way around, many owners prefer the look of the non original bumper or wheels or what ever. Also the mot check service on line gives away the import date as the 1st registration date, so if you have a 93 k reg with a 1st registration of 2003 then its a give away as an import, let alone the stack of different trims etc. Jeff

UK CAR ???? How do I 100% Prove ? Urgent hep needed please
Lots of give away clues but the easiest is to look at the vin number on the slam panel under the bonnet the VIN number on import cars starts with Z or C and UK cars with a J Jeff Import one below

bent lower arm on the rear drivers, what sort of money am i looking at for a replacement? I can fit it so no labour costs, £30 Max used 2nd and 3rd poc anyone know what they are? Handing down roughly under the front seats Cat overheat sensors that have been removed, just cable tie up out of the way no problem 4th and 5th pic anyone know where the 2 dissconnected pipes go? Blue pipe goes to the fuel pressure regulator below it with the worm drive clip on The pipework on the drivers side is part of the vacuum system that looks to of been semi removed, best to finish the job off as it is not needed. 6th and 7th is this exhaust anything special or just a standard one? Exhaust looks like a Scorpion or Mongoose The wheel in picture one is the steel space saver I am guessing, the bent arm will have been the result of a spin out and the original wheel hitting the kerb, most likely why a rusty steel wheel is on, do check out the other suspension parts as that has had a right good whack to do that damage, some very rusty suspension there. Here finally!!
Hi Chris, So sorry to hear of what has happened here, having spent some time studying the DVLA website and although not totally a clear cut case it would seem the same thing that comes back each time is how the Vin number ID is the responsibility of the importing agent, if it not known or not present they have imported the vehicle with incomplete and incorrect paper work which is contrary to the importation regulations, I have no idea how you can fix this except to shout at the top of your voice to all and any agencies involved, at the very least I would be demanding a full refund of your money whilst this is sorted out. Unless any Vin Number can be verified in Japan and solid documentation to identify that the number belongs to that car you are stuffed, even a Q plate will need to pass a type approval which again is the importers responsibility and no way a certainty, also of course with the present Vin number having been ground off the seller has misled you and fraudulently obtained the money from you as it would of been worth only a fraction of what you paid with the present problem, any agent you paid the money to or through is liable too according to the sites I looked at it states that essentially all agents involved are complicit with the fraud by administration association, what you also need to be asking of those agencies or individuals is the details of their insurance cover and set about making a claim, just might help speed them up a bit assuming of course provided they are genuine dealers with full insurance. I hope you get it sorted matey , try not to get too down ( easy to say I know ) you have done nothing wrong the professional's have let you down, now get them to pay up! Good Luck Jeff

Heater box info / pics required
What your looking for is not a flap but the water shut off valve on the matrix. It is located approx adjacent to where your left foot sits, you will need to strip out the panel under the steering wheel then the two ducts and then onto the small control unit, once that is out you will need to remove the module bracket and then finally the black plastic cover over the valve. The valve is hard cable activated with the outer case held in a clip, if that clip has come off the valve cannot operate, likewise there is a spring return and if that has come off then again the valve will not close properly. If both are in place as a work around you can manually close the valve and leave it that way but you would need to disconnect the operating cable. Jeff

Walk down the Marina in the evening is always interesting but last weekend walked down the residents section which is by a large hotel and this lot was just sitting there ............ enjoy Jeff- Allow Me to Introdice Myself, My name is...
1) Best to protect his investment with a fan and fan shroud that Nissan designed 2) Yes if you drive a car with good engine bay space and air movement like a Corsa or a LAND ROVER 3) Yes agree especially when you fry the engine 4) Engine temps can just as easily attain damage levels on a non turbo 5) Exactly, so after 25+ years of UK owners tuning and maintaining their zeds he came here for advise. Sure there is many he who can help with advice for the original op and look forward to seeing how he goes forward with this. Jeff - Evening walk surpise
