Mex and I had an E36!

You guys might have seen it or remember it, depending how long you have been around.

The Homie Kielan shot it 5 years ago.. :alright

That car I bought stock in mid 2010 and kept all the way through to late 2012, it was featured in PBMW before they ideally wanted "Stanced" cars on there and overall was one that I loved, but I fell out of love with cars a little, sold up, got engaged/married, and then slowly my balls tingled for cars again.

2013 I bought a mk2 golf gti, modified it in a week and then got bored of it, all in i had it 4 months.:rofl

March 2015 saw my buy another mk2, a Jetta this time (sedan/coupe is where i feel at home) from a friend who was moving to the other side of the pond and grace you guys with his presence..

And to be a little predictable, I bought another set of 16" RSs and dropped the jetta on them.

Once again I quickly grew bored of it, but this time I did not sell it, but instead put it away over winter and planed a make over as its weird home made 2 tone and tired red paint needed work..

So although I took my time about it, its finally looking a little more interesting and more period correct with 17" Venoms, and the colour but with a modern stance.

Although I am still thinking of selling it, it has really re-ignited my interest in cars and modifying them.

That being said, I pulled the trigger on a car I have wanted for years..

A 300zx Z32 has been on my wish list since before the e36 was purchased, I just didnt have the balls to step out of my German car background.

Here is my collection day Vlog if you guys are interested in watching.

I have plans for the z32, but for now I need to finish the jetta (still has a red hood and roof) and decide if to sell or keep, so I know what budget I have for the Z.

Feels good to be back playing with cars.

I will be paying my subscription tomorrow and hopefully making the most of this forum to really get my Z where i want it.

Thanx for Reading. :alright

Thanx Jeff.

Sills are all good and solid, has had a repair, but car is getting work anyway. I questioned the MOT history, but had it on the ramps and all good, so seems to me an ov r excessive tested on a bad day, as there is nothing more than surface rust to components like any other 23 year old car would have, and the only thing that needed attention was the sills at the rear, and they have been sorted.

Body work, under seal and paint/wrap coming before end of year, so all good.

Glad to hear the welding is good, nice one.

Hi Mex, nice cars you've got there but as you say for me getting a little predictable. Glad to see you're mixing it up and it will be interesting what you've got in store for it.

Thank you all for the kind words.

In terms of style, I think I want to keep it nice and clean in the same style as my old E36, but then again I might embrace JDM too the max and go all out. ha ha. I really dont know.

Car is a manual NA model.

and this is actually the photo I wanted to post last night of the engine bay.

Few jobs need doing there bud, fit a Nissan fuel filter that one looks nasty, rubber seal across the back bulhead is missing, scuttle fixings missing and get hold of a viscous fan and get rid of the electric fan, they are chocolate.

Clean enough engine though, nice one.

Thanx Jeff.

Seal and scuttle fixings were already on the list (any ideas in part number for fixings?) but I'll add filter and fan to the list too.

Thanx for your help.

Plenty of breakers about for the rubber strip, ask on the forum unless you want brand new, saying that Nissan will rape you for the rubber strip, the fixings not so and used ones will be no good.

Will see if I can get you the part number though.

Hi Mex, welcome to the forum..... I know Tomomontana has a breaker as well as BAZ having a few........ they should have the clips and rubber seal.......

Russ

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Let's not be so quick to get all over excited about the E Fan, firstly you can't see it and therefore have no knowledge of what's fitted. It is entirely possible to find and fit a suitable E Fan it's just most people get it wrong. It's not a cheap option. It's an NA with a TT rad, an aftermarket one at that.

I'd check the tempretures but if it is working I see no reason to rip it off. For the OPs reference as he's new to zeds. The stock temp gauge is a stepper motor, it effectively reads cold, normal and hot. If the needle moves from the middle northwards it's already overheating. Fortunately temp gauges are cheap and easy to instal or you can connect to Conzult etc and read the ECUs temp sensor.

1) Best to protect his investment with a fan and fan shroud that Nissan designed

2) Yes if you drive a car with good engine bay space and air movement like a Corsa or a LAND ROVER

3) Yes agree especially when you fry the engine

4) Engine temps can just as easily attain damage levels on a non turbo

5) Exactly, so after 25+ years of UK owners tuning and maintaining their zeds he came here for advise.

Sure there is many he who can help with advice for the original op and look forward to seeing how he goes forward with this.

Sorry Jeff but that's just not quite right. Plenty of guys running E Fans, on many high performance cars including the Z32. Ford Tanus and Volvo v70 fans are extremely popular choices. It's do able and whilst it's less likely, there's every possibility that some ones done the job properly.

The viscous fan is great and moves a huge CFM but a fans a fan, as long as it moves the right amount of air and fits It will have the same end effect. Virtually no production cars feature viscous fans these days.

What I'm saying is. Inspect and monitor, don't just jump straight at it. It might be perfectly adequate or even better.

Jeff, thank you, I already have the rubber seal lined up, and part no for the fixings would be great if you have them, also have some 1/4 window trims on their way too.

I wondered why it always reads cold, ha ha, not used to it.

I need to check what type of rad and fan it is, but it's pretty big and as I said above, it always reads cold regardless.

Hi and welcome to the club Mex.....

Thank you

Stephen, I appreciate your input as well as Jeffs, as I am new to Z's as well as jap stuff, it is really helpful to see 2 sides to the argument. Feel so out of my comfort zone, as German cars is what I know.

It's my 3rd car as I have the Jetta and a V6 mk4 golf daily, so although I don't want the car to blow up, I'm not dependent on it thankfully (another reason I made the jump over) but I do want it to be reliable, as I want to build it over winter to look as I want it, and then next year build a faster engine.

Yeah, I know there is going to be a lot for me to learn from you guys in here, specially as the ZX is such a niche car, there isn't too much around, apart from in the US.
