linking out heater matrix question
Mmm... not totally convinced of that, if you ever have back flushed the coolant lines / system a hose pipe on full tilt will blast through there as fast as you can put it in? Jeff

linking out heater matrix question
No I am ok guys, was looking at the water circuit and just wondered if the link would cause a short circuit on the circulation at the top of the engine, of course the matrix has a restricted flow so a link would flow more. Was one of those spurious thoughts whilst floating around the pool and just wondered on the long term effect, but seems its ok so can rest easy now, thanks guys. Jeff

As promised car meet pics from Sunday Algarve....
Yes be nice to have a Jay leno style garage of old school stuff eh? the M6 is a superb daily driver, the options available on the sequential gearbox, engine, suspension, seats, and more give a car for all seasons and road types. The amount set up computations are such that you need a month of driving just to start off what you like, all can be configured and saved to set parameters so touch of that Magic M button and the world becomes a blur with a sound track straight out of Formula 1 howling in the background. But you back off turn down the power to 400 bhp select soft gear change and soft suspension and let the gearbox do the changes for you and now it becomes a quiet pussy cat that you granny could drive! well ok not your granny but you get what I mean !! Best bit everything is build to drive it like it, not just the engine, the whole car is, so is all of the components attached to the engine, saying that I do not drive it every single day as sometime its too damn hot despite ac to go out and rather stay by the pool !! lol Jeff dynamic brake,

manual gearbox
In road use cars they can quickly become noisy at idle and when accelerating in lower gears, this is what is probably meant as a weakness, in rally situation noise will not be a problem, earlier box is best as the later one has a concentric thrust bearing and slave cylinder combo which can fail ( and do ) which means gearbox removal. Time for a new battery..... Options?
There are many good batteries out there and some rubbish ones but a major consideration is that parasitic current draw will KILL any battery if the car is not used on a regular basis. There are many known issues with the zed and like all older cars where corrosion in electrical connectors can actually be where the random current draw occur`s in the main any connectors in close proximity to the targa drains and other electrical connection behind the passenger front wheel arch for the head lights. The danger is to buy an battery based on other zed owners experience when they maybe lucky enough to have a zed with non of the former mentioned problems, get the connectors checked / cleaned sprayed with WD4O or similar and do not forget the fusebox too drivers side foot well, fit a branded battery and give some thought to buying an electronic battery conditioner that can be left connected. Jeff Some of the typical connector issues caused by targa drains here > http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?175920-Pesky-targa-drains-and-electrical-issues&highlight=targa+drains

Brake lines
Copper brake pipe is easier to work with both bending and installing, a little extra care is required when making the ends in the small crimping tool though. Access is s little tight and a good idea to draw a line by line sketch showing where all the pipes go, the ABS unit been in the boot is why all the pipes terminate there, straight forward job which of course is easier on a 2 post ramp but if you get back end up high and secure with axle stands, remove the rear exhaust boxes and both rear wheels its not too bad. What is this block of metal in my boot?
When the car was new and the gas struts were new, and there was no water was in the original spoiler the metal block weight was so calculated to give the tailgate enough counter weight so that a small assist to raise it was required without it shooting up too rapidly. Over time however the gas struts get tired and the original spoiler takes on water both of which upsets the calculation making the tailgate heavy to lift up, taking the weight out will assist to a degree, but in general changing the spoiler will cure a heavy tailgate.
