  1. Years ago I bought a cheap compression tester for about £20 off eBay and got similar readings and started panicking. I borrowed an expensive tester from a mechanic friend and got results that were in the correct ballpark. I was amazed at how different the accuracy of the testers were, they are only measuring pressure right? Needless to say the one I bought went in the bin. How much was your tester, is it worth borrowing a decent/expensive/branded kit to make sure the results are accurate?
  2. I prefer the early looks, I think the early front bumper looks nicer than the 99 spec ones. I also think some cars are dated when you look at them, but the early Zed isn't one of them. Put it next to a civic type R or a focus ST and they will look over designed and childish, where as the zed will look mature, subtle and quietly proud.... I will however accept I am heavily biased as I own two 1991's ?
  3. Have the comments been deleted because all I could see were people continuously asking about the spoiler being repainted (if I was asked 7 times, I would be more pissed off than he seemed) and some guy saying the car needs it's 60k service (when it's only on 18k), which would piss me off too!
  4. Here is the PDF of the route so if people get lost they can get back on track! 23rd August Route.pdf
  5. I have planned another trip for people to meet up and drive. I've tried to have this one further down the coast so South and maybe some South West guys can come along! The route would be Salisbury to the Roman Villa at Fishbourne on the edge of Chichester. The route takes in Some A roads, B roads and a leg stretch at Cheesefoot Head. I have been on these roads before, but not for a long time. If people met in Salisbury at the cathedral car park at 10am, with the aim to leave around 11am, the route should take about 2 hours with the leg stretch so we will arrive at Fishbourne around 1pm. There is a cafe there so lunch can be bought or brought.
  6. Shame you got separated, when we turned off the A22 and you didnt, I spun round to see if I could find you while the others hung back to see if you came past, but we couldnt ttrack you down. I think you got to Tilbury Park way before us in the end. I really enjoyed today, so ill start planning another, but each person will get a map this time!
  7. We are next to the Eastbourne Eye
  8. Too be fair £10 of the price was insurance as they would only cover up to £50, so I had to take out the optional insurance to cover up to £1000
  9. Ah thats a shame Richard, was looking forward to seeing you guys again!
  10. Welcome, I might be interested in some bits later. Shame another one has died though...
  11. This was my plan as I have been working annoyingly timed shifts this week so havent go much done to the car! Im hoping to get up early tomorrow, wash and polish the car as it hasnt been done for ages.... Camskill are happy to take the tyres back as I didnt unwrap them or try to fit them. I had to pay the shipping though (£40 ouch) so ill buy the right tyres this time! I contacted APC, who delievered the tyres, to get a quote for sending the tyres back and was told that they dont send tyres, they are on the prohibited list. I said you just delievered 3 to me not less than an hour ago. "Oh no sir, that cant have been us"....."Well it was an APC van driven by a guy in an APC t-shirt"....."No sir we dont allow tyres".... I cut the live chat and googled shipping tyres, found a company, booked and paid. They sent me the labels, I printed them out and guess who are collecting the tyres on Monday...... APC! ?
  12. The codes only show when certain monitored voltages are out of the pre-determined range. If the MAF or another component is failing but still within that allowed range it won't flag an error. Annoying! I'm currently suffering an over fueling issue with one of my zeds and have slowly been replacing bits (either bought, borrowed or swapped off my other zed) to narrow down the problem. Can you check all the pipe work and make sure no air is sucking in anywhere it's not supposed too? Try taking the plugs out and check them? Check the injectors to hear them clicking or not (there is a walkthrough on how to do that somewhere on the web), basically check all the air and fuel systems for leaks/wrong mix/etc. failing all that, jimmer and jeffTT (although retired) are a wealth of knowledge!
  13. Bought some new rubber today ready for sunday only to find out I bought the wrong tyres! I bought 225 45 18R instead of 225 40 18R! They would fill the arches and rub so they will have to be returned and others ordered, wont happen for sunday though. oooooops ?
  14. Black smoke is running rich. The car isnt getting the right fuel/air mixture. This could be a few things, but MAF springs to mind first. These often die or stop working properly. Have you tried running the engine codes? That should tell you any problems and create a list to start from. The codes can be grabbed with this walk through: http://twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/technical/view/1105629/The-Ultimate-Guide-to-ECU-Diagnostics.html
  15. Depends on the total worth of the package. The import tax is a % based on essential/non-essential car parts. E.g An item needed to make the car work is a different rate to some trim or after market pedals. I think it is about 4.5%, but you also pay VAT% on top of that at 20%, so a £1000 order from the US is now £1254. Then most parcel companies charge a "handling fee", basically they either pay the import duty and chase you for it, thus creating paperwork and charge you for the priviledge or they put you in touch with HMRC, then release your parcel when its been paid and then charge you for the priviledge. If Jai bought new pistons and rods from the US at £1450 + £50 shipping, He would get charged about 4.5% on the worth and cost of shipping (£1568) , then they add 20% on to that, (£1882) then a fee for sorting it all out (£1932) and before he knows it, he has paid out an extra £432 just to get the piston and rods into the country. So depending on what he bought, £316 could be correct, however it is always worth checking when the invoice comes through. We have all this to look forward to when our transition period ends on the 31st Dec 2020 as well! Buying car parts from Germany on ebay will become a minefield... well buying anything from anywhere will be a minefield....
  16. Excellent, thanks for the help guys. Completely re-buliding my rear end (!) at the moment and replacing everything that is normally difficult to get to because of the rear sub-frame
  17. Do they have to be steel or can they be copper like the brake lines?
  18. I need to replace the fuel (and brake) lines that run front to back. The brake lines, my mechanic and I are happy with. The fuel lines look to be bigger, does anyone know the diameter? We think its 8mm, but need it confirming. Also what material should they be? Copper, like the brake lines? Steel which corrodes? Stainless? Can I buy preformed sections that go up and over the rear subframe? I have spent the last three days on the internet and seem to only find info about braided stainless line for the engine bay. Thanks
  19. I can collect the arms on Monday as im out and about collecting some other bits too. Please let me know
  20. Im interested in the rear lower arms if they are still available?
  21. Im guessing they were not cheap....?
  22. All of our buses at work have run out of MOT, they are currently on the Covid extension. It was difficult going to the police station the other day to report an RTC with an out of date MOT certificate! ?
