Nissan in their infinite wisdom decided to use neutral switch control cables and use twin relays with additional mode change-over not your normal automotive practice but I guess they had their reasons and it works, that is until tracing wiring faults and not knowing the particular way it was configured can make for hours of fun for the un-initiated. So on to the task we had here to sort out, a nice zed with a rather strange headlight switching issue, firstly I must add they had been previous attempts by others to correct this issue with out success. The side lights were fine but the passenger dip beam would not work, the drivers side was fine, the main beams w…

  3. Ok, so this is how it looks - It's pretty much just surface rust, everything is solid and it's not time to start cutting up the body (I've had my fair share of that...and lost! lol) I obviously can't get at it to rub it down, so my question is what should I do with it? I thought about pouring rust eater in there and leave it for a while, then rinse that out, dry it out with a hair drying, then fill it with zinc pain or Waxoyl etc (maybe old oil?), but I don't want the rust to survive and make a come-back. I may well do that targa drain mod someone did and bring rubber tubing through a hole in the bottom of the sill.

  4. Taken my Z to France many times, but mainly to Normandy and Brittany and once to the west coast. I write this from deep south near the foothills of the Pyrenees in glorious settings after a non-stop drive across France in my Z. I am pleased to say that the car absolutely ran without fault. So proud of the car. I know it's in pretty good shape, but to actually put it through its paces and prove it makes you appreciate the car. Testiment also to a wonderful engine that Jimmer built me all these years ago and the maintenance he and I carry out on it. I even patted the thing and said 'well done' just now! Do you know what? After all that driving in an old sports car…

Decided to check and re set my TPS today as I have not long re build and fitted my plenum. Anyway, to cut a long story short I tried to move it so as to lower the voltage reading. It moved suddenly virtually to a dead stop with a reading of 0.15 volts. At this point I heard a rapid ticking sound, pretty sure it was some sort of electrical short coming from the passenger side of the engine. I tried this a couple of times, and sure enough the same thing happened. At the same time the RPM sat at 1850 rev's. Surely this can not be right? With that I set it back to 0.44 volts but no matter what I tried, the rev's would not change. Took her for a 8 mile drive…

i dragged my Z32 out yesterday to get it ready for an MOT next week. After 7 years of sitting, it looks like it just needed new wiper blades and the brakes cleaning up - calipers exercising and some bedding in and a new battery. Adjusted handbrake too. Ive power washed all the green and moss off it which made a difference. the only thing i can see 'wrong' is the indicator repeater on the dash cluster doesnt work, neither does the red light on the 4-way flasher switch. Indicators all work fine apart from that. im assuming theres something common between both the faults. does anyone have any ideas what it could be? dash bulbs are both fine. the da…

Well around a week ago now i lent my dad my 300zx, told him not to crash the damn thing, while his car was off the road with a gear box issue. So, i fix his gearbox (had no frigging oil in it, a bearing on his diff had managed to slip so was replaced, new clutch, new oil and replaced back onto the car and now working perfectly, last time i do any work on a 307 thats for sure, especially gearbox related lol Anyway, pulls up out side his while i was putting his car back together, he has only gone and drove the bloody thing into a curb as he didn't realise how low it was, cracking my genuine veilside bumper in two places , ok i was a tad p'eed but then i fo…

Does anyone have any experience with Energy Suspension rear control arm bushings to advise on the ride quality compared to oem (or equivalent)? I appreciate they will naturally stiffen things up a fair bit after old worn bushings, but the CZP website displays a bold warning that these ES bushes (only on the rear control arms, they're fine everywhere else) make the ride 'harsh' and to go for nismo or oem to maintain any sort of ride quality. Any advice welcomed, cheerZ :)

Has anyone tried this new "colonic irrigation" fuel system flush, as seen on Wheeler Dealers, and now advertised by Ed? What's your verdict? ...and while we're on that topic, I'm sure I watched one where Ed was promoting some stuff that replaces water in the rads?? Not sure about that one, personally... Still waiting to see Ed get his head 'round a Z though...

Well today I thought I would clean up all the dust from having my kit fitted etc. and whilst vacuuming the front drivers carpet I noticed it was damp??? This boggled me as the car is kept in a garage for the past year along with it also being started occasionally. What would cause this or is the normal problem associated to this. John.

Ok so I've got laquer peel on my red zed is there anyway to get rid of this without a respray, can I not flat it back with say 800 wet and dry follow it up with 1200 or 1500 then compound polish it all back up?

  19. Started by Kaza Steve,

not all the time but sometimes when coming down from speed to a junction or roundabout the car just looses ignition and cuts out ..it starts straight away but can be disconcerting as the power steering goes as do the power brakes .....happens when i dip the clutch 9 times out of ten a pop of the clutch instantly starts it back up again ..dip the cluctch and its ok ..what do you reckon Throttle position sensor? the car idles ok but shows 1900 - 2000 rpm on the tacho ( this has been a long standing problem ) even though its more like 800 900 rpm ....flumoxed with this one :(

When my ignition is on there is a fan noise that I have never heard before coming from behind the map light panel between the targa panels, I unclipped the light panel just to have a look at what it was the noise is coming from, what is it? Why is mine now noisy? (And dusty)??

Interesting zed breakdown in the workshop this morning, was pre-booked as had some poor starting and running issues and a flashing a/t light at start up. The owner made the good decision to stay over Friday night so we could see how it performed when cold, so I popped up to the local hotel armed with the ConZult and set about preparations before starting the engine. So two codes were stored, afm and an 02 sensor heater wire fail, whilst looking at these codes with the ignition on I became aware of the very pungent smell of fuel! now I have seen the normal loose fuel lines hundreds of times but this was like been in a petrol station when they are having a delive…
