1. Yes please, can't beat a sunny day by the seaside!
2. Did you try the offset calculator? Here is another with perhaps a better description of the results terminology: http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/WheelOffsetCalc.html Try putting in your existing size 10J et -31 into the "current" wheel and 8J et +22 into the new wheel and you can start to see how things are moving about relative to what you have now and an indication of the new barrel size(s) you need.
3. Your right! Michelin MXX3 tyres are pictured on the car in my UK marketing brochure. These guys still have them - love the description they give for them - "Old timer's tyres": https://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk/car-tyres/michelin/pilot-sx-mxx3/245-45-r16-0-zr.html
4. Part #'s https://conceptzperformance.com/nissan-infiniti-nissan-oem-300zx-inner-door-mirror-cover-clip-27158-q0100_p_5316.php https://conceptzperformance.com/nissan-infiniti-nissan-oem-door-sill-threshold-screw-nissan-300zx-z32-08520-52008_p_5477.php Just checked FAST and the part # for the seat belt finisher is 08520-52042 Screw-Tapping. Looks to be like 08520-52008 above.
5. A writeup is here. Unfortunately the pictures have gone AWOL, but you get the drift. I used the soldering iron method to reduce the chances of scratching the reflector and housing. http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.448
6. These links may also help in solving the problem: If the window rattles: https://conceptzperformance.com/nissan-infiniti-nissan-oem-complete-window-upper-slider-bolt-kit-window-rattle-leak-fix-nissan-300zx-90-96-z32-80332-kt_p_9591.php Blocked drain holes: http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/technical/view/42357/A-fix-for-convertible-top-leak.html Weather stripping seal adjustment: http://forums.nicoclub.com/adjust-convertible-roof-to-stop-leak-at-top-window-line-t548576.html If the windows seal(s) have failed - replacements: https://www.z1motorsports.com/convertible-parts/nissan/oem-convertible-top-weatherstrip-front-p-3849.html https://www.z1motorsports.com/convertible-parts/nissan/oem-convertible-top-weatherstrip-center-p-3769.html https://www.z1motorsports.com/convertible-parts/nissan/oem-convertible-weatherstrip-rear-door-glass-p-3808.html
7. Is the rubber seal which the window presses against when closed damaged/deformed or is it a case of the window glass being loose and not pressing properly against the seal?
8. Welcome to the Club! Where is the canvas roof leaking?
9. They do make them in 18" in lots of sizes only they don't sell them in the UK/Europe. Which is pretty strange for French company (IMO). https://www.michelinman.com/tire/michelin/pilot-sport-4s (including 285/35). These guys say they will ship internationally: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Pilot+Sport+4S&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=835YR8PS4SXL&tab=Sizes https://www.tirerack.com/FAQ/index.jsp (Shipping tab) I wonder how much it would cost to ship to the UK? I must say I'm tempted for the PS4S sizes I need (245/40 and 275/35). However, Michelin are saying that the difference between the PS4 (which I can get in the sizes I need in the UK) and PS4S is very small and really only noticeable on the track in tenths of a second. So it might not be worth the effort in importing them for such a small benefit.
10. They certainly are especially with the orange part removed...
11. Like you I have tyres that need changing out due to their age. I'm going French this time and was intending to go with Michelin PS4S. However, unless I import them from the US, PS4S are not available in the UK/Europe in 18" fitments. Its baby brother PS4 is available over here and I thought you might find this link interesting regarding Michelin's PSS, PS4S and PS4 tyres. The relevant bits are posted by Jamie McWhir, Michelin's UK technical manager. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Michelin-Pilot-Sport-4-First-Drive.htm
12. And I use this stuff:
13. In all probability dielectric grease. http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/general/view/2609521/LEAVE-IT-ALONE-Its-dielectric-packing-for-insulation.html
14. Thanks for all the time and effort you are putting into these these ongoing activities Lee. Much appreaciated!
15. A genuine used OEM cambelt with only 45 thousand miles on it. Carefully used whilst in service for the seven years it was on the car and professionally removed to avoid damage. Comes complete with an original Nissan plastic bag for safe storage with the correct part number affixed for peace of mind. The all important unused service stickers are included. No reasonable offer refused!
16. Best wishes on your Birthday Craig!
17. The reason for differential bore calipers is succinctly described here in the SCC Project 300ZX: http://www.superstreetonline.com/how-to/project-car/9902scc-project-nissan-300zx-part-3/ "The pistons are all of different sizes, with the small pistons (which exert less force) at the leading edge of the brake pad, and the larger pistons at the trailing edge. This eliminates taper wear, a problem that all multi-piston calipers have. Taper wear happens because of the self-energizing action of the brake pads on a rotating rotor. The leading edge of the pad tends to get wedged by the rotor, thus receiving a higher per-unit load than the trailing edge. The pad starts to wear more at the leading edge, creating a wedge shape that makes the problem worse. By making the leading pistons smaller than the trailing pistons, more force is applied to the rear of the pad than the front. This does two things; it eliminates taper wear and it also improves braking by evenly distributing the braking pressure over the surface of the pads."
18. Very understanding I would say Andy judging by the quantity of parts on display!
19. Your post title says the car is a 1988 model 300ZX, that is Z31 model?
20. That's fine with me Nick.
21. Time to elimate the PTU from the equation. You can perfom a manual test on the PTU (it's in the FSM) but is rather involved and if there is a problem with it that's vibration and/or heat related you may not see it. See if you borrow a known good S1 PTU from member or from Jimmer.
22. What have you checked so far on the ignition system which fires that cylinder?
