How do you know when the fuel pump is about to give up? There has been a low hum/whistle from the rear of the car previously which the mechanic said was from the fuel pump on top of fuel tank. This dissappeared but just came back louder than ever this evening sounds like hissing. Thought I had a puncture but no (Its bound to be something more expensive with a Z). The performance of the car remains unchanged. When you floor it the noise dissappears? Is this the end of the fuel pump? Help needed I'm driving to Spain next Week.

Hmmm..here goes. Recently my zed is beginning to feel real slow. Now I know my rear shocks need replacing and I'm thinking of upgrading ( standard Jap import auto). Hoping to get a mongoose, Blitz filter and a chip upgrade with Jeff very soon. What HP gains will I get from these mods and will it be noticeable with acco and mid range? Also apart from chip, safest and best way to get a little more boost without screwing the turbo's? Reason I say this is that the boost seems okay on stock gauge but that's not reliable as we all know, gearchange okay...but she just don't feel quick like she used to. Okay maybe used to it now after owning it 18 months but I got pissed w…

Hi guys & gals. I'm after some tyre advice. Pretty soon I'm going to have to replace all four tyres. I'm currently running Avons on the front (235/45 ZR17's) and Bridgestone's on the back (265/40 ZR17). I find the Avons very noisy, so wanted to replace all 4 with Bridgestone's, but I've been quoted over £630 which seems a bit steep. However, for just under £400 I can get a set of Fulda's. I understand these are re-branded Goodyears, but other than that I don't know about their reputation. Has anyone tried Fulda's? If not, any recommendation would be welcome. Cheers Paul

At santa pod the car didn't pick very well from takeoff, was 0.5sec slower getting to 60ft and 330ft than another auto 300zxtt that was less modified than mine. Thinking of reasons why it happened. Running it on 0.95bar until it is tuned. I held it on the brake at 2000rpm before getting away and I was using octane booster (too rich and therefore holding on 2000rpm flooded it and it kinda stalled on takeoff??) Other than that I can't think of a reason unless there is an engine problem? Ideas/Comments/suggestions? ------------------ Z first and anything else is secondary! I've just read on an old thread on TT.net that the only real difference between the auto engine and the manual's are the intake cams.... hmmm...manual ECU....intake cams...instant 20hp??? Any thoughts?

When trying to attach my manual box to the car after replacing everything bar the kitchen sink under my car, I get to within an inch or so of the block and no further. I've installed a pilot bushing into the back of my crank, but in hitting it in it seems to have shrunk a little?!?! I've measured the inside of the pilot bushing and it's now 1/2mm smaller than the input shaft on the gearbox?!?! I'm now stumped, has anyone else come across this. (i'm converting from an auto to a manual) Cheers. ------------------ 'I hope I die peacefully in my sleep like my Grandfather and not like his passengers....'

Just a quick, one, I'm still newish to the world of the 300zx and I've been given big recommendations by everbody silvia engineering and quality of workmanship.. now I'm on the brink of letting AbbeyMotorsport (HKS) start tuning the car, but I'm now wondering if silvia is a better route? Opinions please? Also where abouts are they and does anybody have contact details for them? website seems to be gone?

Well done to John Nukem yesterday at Santa Pod.. did you get your confirmation of that time you destroyed Colin at!? Last I saw Colin had clocked 13.13 secs (standing 1/4), and John's rolled in at 12.something?!? Sadly I turned up late and couldn't get a race pass.. next meet is 6th october.. but highly recommend it to anybody who didn't make this weekend.. be there early (8:00am) if you want to get a race pass though..

hi guys, got a prob with the zed. under hard acceleration shes gone quite flat, doesnt pick up as well as it used to. also not as smooth. under 1/2 throttle theres no noticable difference. it doesnt miss at all, just flat. new plugs ptu, all connections cleaned, no faults in ecu. only mod is cone filter so far. my initial thoughts are collapsed cats/exhaust - will check this when my new mongoose sys turns up. or AFM not giving correct readings. anyone had similar probs?? ------------------ I feel the need, the need for speed!

Hi i recently got my car checked as it was jerky whilst driving and i got told that the oxygen sensor on the RHS of the car is knackered. The geezer told me to change both of them, he said he would do the full job for £370. Question: is this steep for 2 new sensors and fitting?? Where are these sensors located?? How long do they take change?? Can i refurbish these things myself, if so how??

This poor N/A 2+2 has seen better days: Apart from the front damage the Autobox has gone south and the heater core leaks so has been disconnected. So this Z(which was in very good condition) has sat at its resting place for a good few weeks . Stats: 1989 2+2 N/A Auto(which needs replacing). Approx 71000 miles. Leather seats(Driver side bolster worn/split). Good condition paint, no rust on rear arches. Interior trim in very good condition(steering wheel hardly marked, Handbrake leather unworn etc). The owner wants to sell it in its current state - how much do you think this would be worth, bearing in mind you'd …
