MOT headlight help
That’s an easy mod to carry out, simply take the earth wire from your dipped beams, put a ring terminal on it and earth it locally. This bypasses the earth seeking relay, the only down side is that when you flash your high beams, if your dipped beams aren’t on, they will flash too (which isn’t great for HIDs). There is a more in depth wiring method at the relay to avoid this scenario.

Simply Japanese 2018
The top 3 cars from the People’s Choice Award (the MX5 won): Carbon wrapped GTR Slammed MX5 Time warp Bluebird! It was a pretty miserable day weather wise, many of the cars that did attend had vacated by midday and the kids were pretty bored, cold and wet! The bird of prey display has always been a highlight of the day and although the Falconer was at the show, the weather prevented a display of the birds so that was another disappointment. I’m guessing they didn’t make a video of this years show to advertise next year so they will probably be using my ugly mug to promote it again! Great to meet some new faces and have a little catch up with others. Our club stand position seems to have gotten progressively worse every year, we were spoilt for the consecutive years of being by the monorail. Fingers crossed that next year will restore normal service of weather for this show and hopefully a nice spot, maybe we can have the 240, 300, 350 and 370s together for another anniversary display?

Can you hear/feel the relay clicking when you switch between main and dipped?
-
MOT headlight help
That’s normal. When you select your main beams, the relay switches over the power supply from the dipped.

Simply Japanese 2018
I’ll be there, I’ve been in Somerset the last few days and am now in the New Forest for a week. The Z is still at home so I won’t be displaying but I hope to see lots of nice machines on display! [emoji41] I had so much planned and I’ve not actually managed a single show this year!

Simply Japanese 2018
This will be the first year that the club has been attending this show under Stephen/Simon’s organisation that the weather hasn’t been utterly glorious! Shame, I blame the organisers.

What did you do to your zed today?
Yes please, I’d be interested if you can send me the details. Mine are leaking across the rubber seal internally so I’m looking for a set to tide me over until I get a pair of HKS SSQVs.

Was there anything wrong with your stock recircs? If not do you want to sell them?

I’ve had these fitted ever since I had mine painted, they do a great job of keeping the stone chips at bay! Very subtle and I actually really like the look of them fitted.

Becoming a sole trader
I work in aviation and after 9/11 (or 11/9 in this country!) the industry took a bit of a swipe! It ended up costing the industry significantly and the follow up was that I worked for closed down in 2004... and then again in 2007... and again in 2010! After the 3rd hit i now has the first chapter of my young family and the insecurity and moving about had to stop! I was given a government grant as part of the last redundancy package to do some training at which point I decided to do a Part P electricians (17th edition competent person scheme) course. Having finished the course and having to travel around with various contracts in aviation I thought I’d throw in the towel and start up my own little business as a sparky! Although I’m not a qualified electrician, the Part P scheme is a bit of a loop-hole to be competent to sign off anything from the fuse box outwards so I figured I’d have enough work to keep me going. My aviation licence covers me to release an aircraft to service after any electrical system work that I have inspected or carried out so I’m would’ve been perfectly comfortable with the work involved. Whether the timing was good or bad, I was offered a well paid job at the airport I was local to and it was probably the most secure job in the industry within Europe. Up until this stage, the outlay for the test equipment, tooling and literature etc was very risky especially having no real idea on how quickly I could expect to start seeing returns. In the end I simply didn’t have the cojones to take the plunge and start out on my own, especially as my job felt secure and was bringing in reasonable cash. Fast forward another 8 years and my training has expired so I no longer have the option to progress with that but my work and life is good so who knows where that fork in the road would’ve taken me. Obviously, your motivations are different and it’s more of a life choice to keep you motivated and happier with the work you do. I can’t see any reasons not to go for it other than as already mentioned during the transition stage where your current employer is concerned. Best of luck though dude, whatever you decide, I hope it works out for you.

Suspension Upgrades
If you have fully adjustable suspension including the preload, to get the very most out of it you would need to get the car corner weighted. There are specialists dotted around the country but I have no recommendations for your area. It’s a relatively expensive service compared to your basic tracking setup.

Dead spider removals...
Haha sorry! I’ve still not worked that out either! It’s the same stuff as used in the headlamps and I’m yet to find anything like it available, I’d be interested if someone has an answer. Out of curiosity, why did you remove the glass lens from the housing? Access from behind is a lot easier for cleaning.

Dead spider removals...
It holds the glass onto the housing!

1st time owner
There were lots of small model variation differences over the years and also some quirky differences between the markets they were sold in too. It takes a while to get your head round them all and most of us are still learning!

There are some key areas to look out for where rust is concerned but the most important is in the rear sill sections where the targa roof drains live. If you remove the rear quarter interior trim panels, you can see down into this gallery. You can also stick your phone down the hole with the flash on whilst recording to have a gander around! An underseal and cavity wax is always a good idea as long as it’s done properly and that’ll keep it rust free for another 23 years! Once you’re happy that the car is structurally and mechanically sound, tarting up the paint would be the icing on the cake. Although in the pictures it does look perfectly presentable! My personal opinion is to not waste your time and money on a turbo timer, I think their philosophy is flawed. I get the idea but by staying off boost for the last few miles of your journey, you’re doing the engine many more favours. The cooling airflow whilst cruising will cool things down after your spirited drive, whereas if you leave it idling, all the heat is going to build up and raise your oil temp.
