  1. Good luck Russ. Looking forward to your diary with interest. I hope to one day strip my gearbox, albeit a manual, but your journey may give me the inspiration I need to attempt it.
  2. It will be interesting to hear what folk make of the colouration. Personally they look a little lean/hot in my opinion, maybe just the trick of the light. I would prefer to see a little more colour on them.
  3. I have followed Dan's exploits over many years, if this is true I will be truly bemused. ❗️❓
  4. It's been a while sines I bought mine, my price may be out of date. Try this link.... http://www.nissandatascan.com/ I will see if I can recall where I purchased my laptop lead from.
  5. I have Data-scan myself, seems adequate for basic set up and fault finding. To be honest, I think it is capable of a lot more, l just haven't delved very deep. I run mine from a Dell experion lap top from a serial port. Very happy with it myself.
  6. I can vouch for the Hinkley venue, have narrow boated through that way many a time. I may have to reconsider and take the short trip (15 min's) over in the Zed, takes me about 5 hours by boat.
  7. Nice mate. I used to have something similar, made by Mamod I think. God I am getting old.
  8. Welcome to the club. When I acquired my UK zed, I knew very little about these cars. But with the help of this club, I soon got to know my way around the basics and some of the more technical stuff, just give yourself time. As folk have mentioned, stay away from any with signs of rust, I know from bitter experience just how bad things can get. Things start going bad from the inside out, make sure you get underneath, especially the rear arches. This was mine some years ago... beware! http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/thanks-everyone.15465/
  9. Personally I would keep the expansion tank, it helps keep the system pressurised and topped up. Helps maintain better engine temperature also.
  10. Welcome Derek. Good luck with your search.
  11. This might trump you all, Hillman Minx. ?
  12. RIP Mandy, lest we forget.
  13. Don't be to hasty when cutting away existing rusty parts, they can act as good reference points when putting in new metal. Something I realised when tackling a similar condition on mine. This maybe worth a read... http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/thanks-everyone.15465/
  14. Could you not pick up power from overhead courtesy/reading lighting? Seems like the shortest route, and the most discrete.
  15. Well put Richard, agreed. I would like to add though, I commend the courage of the op for being brave enough to go public, It is this openness that helps organisations develop and evolve through debate. I am not saying I agree with all that was initially stated, I am just applauding the fact that without people being brave enough to raise challenging points of view, we would possible stagnate.
  16. I can relate to the distress that the dreaded tin worm can bring, I did not know which way to go, but after months of deliberation, I decided to tackle it myself. Hope it might be of interest to others. http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/thanks-everyone.15465/
  17. Personally, I did not find it that much trouble to take the rear subframe out, it was a learning experience and gave me the room to learn how to construct brake lines for the first time. That said, I can see the advantages of just removing the diff etc', albeit restrictive. I would add though, I think the primary objective is to help the original poster as opposed to the clash of the Titans. lol
  18. My reply was to Cozza Mark.:lol:
  19. Above is a close up of one of the two designated rear lifting/support points. Just inboard of the rear sills around the targa drain points. Hidden by the block of wood is an oval hole for reference.
  20. Please don't support the rear of the car on the sills or jacking points, they are just not strong enough. I will dig out some pictures of how I supported mine. Please see below.
  21. As Mark said, best with the rear sub-frame out. When I did mine, I used a pair of strong axle stands at the rear designated lifting points. Makes the job so much easier all round.
  22. Merry Christmas to you all. :balloon::biggrin::nana2::pint:
