what engine would you choose and why?
I'm just brainstorming all options. It's good to chat about pros and cons, I haven't settled on a VQ. VQ stock internals are good for 400bhp ish. anything above that needs it to be built. Much of the cost involved in a SC set up will be stuff that gets done in an engine swap anyway. I can get a Vortec V3 and fuel return system for about £4k. other bits and pieces to add to that obviously. Cost wise for the power, the VH is a better option. But if I only want 300hp then a VQ is fine. I prefer NA to FI anyway actually.

Supercharge. A Vortec set up would do the job.

SC on a VQ will give 400hp. which will be more than enough to be honest. I'm not going for big numbers, I just like to be different.

what engine would you choose and why?
Benefit of a VQ35DE is I have easy access to good second hand examples for cheap. I also know them pretty well from my time with Z33s.

what engine would you choose and why?
Can't afford a R35 engine, and I'm not willing to put in a VG30DETT. Why would I replace an already awkward engine to work on, with one that's even worse?!

Firstly - VG purists will hate this thread. I've heard it all before so no need to bang on about how I'm.committing a sin etc etc. I love my slicktop. I got it for a steal, so there's no way I'm selling it to buy a TT so forget that option. So with all that in mind, when my house extension and garage workshop are complete next year, I'll be pulling the VG and replacing it. What would people have and why? So fat I have these choices VH45DE LS1 RB VQ35DE or HR VQ30DET. All have been done by others, so all are possible. Some are easier than others obviously. Cost wise - for engine and gearbox and loom they all work out roughly the same.

New F1 rule for 2014 season.....
Load of *****cks. I reckon it'll get dropped before the season starts. Some of the crap they are coming out with in the name of entertainment is shocking.

One for the drifters.....
Front suspension, steering rack, and wheels on. Rear end should be done in next few days ready to go back to Clark Customs to get the custom exhaust fabbed.

Start of rear tail mod.
I think I'll need to see it when the unit is back together and the "gloss" effect of the light cover is there too.

I have recently nicked some frosted perspex from my sister-in-laws business as I was gonna try it this way (before I knew you were gonna do it). I cannot decide if I like it or not now though!

What's next
Just because something isn't fitted to every car in the industry, doesn't mean it's a bad idea. I get you don't like it, but why keep banging on about it? The use of punctuation, sentences, capitals letters, and grammar have all caught on over the years, yet you still avoid using them ;) Doesn't make them a bad idea though.

What's next
What is the general condition of your car mechanicals? Before spending money on any performance bits chasing higher numbers, I would spend money on getting the car working and running 100%. Spending you money on exhausts, or intakes etc etc, is utterly pointless if your bushes are all shagged, or half your wiring is borked.

Howdo all
His post says remapped....... Apologies for not being a mind reader. ;)

Howdo all
Welcome. But why would you get a car remapped.....and then change the exhaust and filters? The map will no longer be accurate for your set up.

Electrical help needed
The original wiring diagram will be available in the FSM. Various locations on the interweb, and there is even an app in the Play Store. Search for Z32.

Finally, I've bought a tablet - why didn't I do it sooner!?
I spend a lot of time on my Samsung Note. So good to have something that is a decent size screen and easily transportable. I do get a bit miffed at the touch screen typing after a while, but have downloaded a few different keyboards and getting better.

Exhaust valves
All you are doing there though is creating more back pressure. Not something you really want to do on a Turbo car. Or any car for that matter. And how would you know how open or closed it was? You would risk trashing your engine.
-
Exhaust valves
Same theory. You see where the cut-out pipes are bolted on to my exhaust? Well that's where the valve is (same kind of butterfly valve as your ebay link) Think about it for a moment - how would placing that valve quieten your exhaust if it was placed in it? Well, actually, if it was closed it would - it would cause so much backpressure your engine would stall and you'd have no noise at all. These valves are designed to be placed just before a cut-out pipe. So you could get a garage to modify your current exhaust and fit them into a Y pipe on each side. But you would still have your current sound when they are closed, and louser when open.

Exhaust valves
Not with your current exhaust no. you will basically have your current sound when you have them closed (exhaust gasses flow through your normal exhaust). When open, exhaust gasses flow through a "cut out" and create noise. See this vid of my VXR8 when I had them fitted:
