Unfortunately, ignorance is no defence - it's about responsibility !
  3. Was just sent this by a friend of mine in the Met. 'Those new electronic signs on the M4 were switched on this Tuesday. The bad news is that they are rigged with the SPECS speed cameras. SPECS is a computer-camera based system. As you go past the sign a digital camera reads your number plate. When you go past the next sign your number plate is read again. The computer 'knows' how far apart the signs are so it can work out your average speed between the two, or three or four. The system is fully automatic and will issue a ticket without any form of human intervention. It does this for every single vehicle that passes. You will not know you've been caught as the cameras don't flash. They work 24/7, 365 days a year, and theoretically, there's absolutely no limit on the number of tickets that the system can issue. The whole section of the M4 between Theale (J12) and Membury Services (between 14 and 15) is wired, both ways. The system is set to trigger a ticket at 78 mph. Radar detectors will be of no use as SPECS is entirely passive, there is no radar or laser beam to detect. Be warned and spread the news.'
  4. If it doesn't start then I would start to think about the PTU. Check for a spark at the time and/or see if you can blag a known good one off someone as a test.
  5. Does it do the same with the A/C on ? If not then think about the idle control valve electrical connection.
  6. Nokia Phone Editor ZapNotes Tight VNC Cisco VPN client O&O Defrag MusicMatch AutoRoute CDWAV32 Well you did ask ....
  7. Hmmm, front good, rear bad. And spoilt by really massive problem - the Honda badge ! What was it the US Harley-type bikers used to say ... "Better a sister in a whorehouse than a brother on a Honda!" LOL :D
  8. Incidentally, the US clocks seem different from the UK/Jap ones (God knows why?) and their fix has never been correct for any of the ones I have mended, which must be in the 20's now.
  9. Next weeks words will be specialising on the origins of insulting words for those from North of the Border ! ;)
  10. Maybe I'm a bit of a saddo but I've always been curious about the origins of certain words, especially in English where we have such a diverse history over the past 1000 years or so. Anyway I subscribe to a daily news letter called A.Word.A.Day and as todays word is "avatar" and it's in daily usage here, I thought I may as well share it's meaning and origin. Although I knew it was something to do with a picture, I knew nothing more about it than that. avatar (AV-uh-tahr) noun 1. A manifestation of a deity in Hinduism. 2. An embodiment of a concept. 3. A representation of a person or thing in computers, networks, etc. [From avatar (descent, as of a god from heaven to the earth), from ava- (away) + tarati (he crosses).] "Nearly forgotten today, Downing was a national avatar of taste, a sort of cross between Martha Stewart and Frank O. Gehry and was the likely choice ..." Kevin Baker; The Daily, Death-Defying Commute; The New York Times; Oct 17, 2003. "The idea was to demonstrate the levels of service on Alaska Airlines by contrasting them with an avatar of how not to run an airline." Airline Fires Back at Low-cost Rivals; International Herald Tribune (France); Oct 19, 2003. This week's theme: words derived from Sanskrit.
  11. Have just spent the past week driving an Alfa 156 2.0 T.Spark - not a bad car at all but it made me drive soooooooo sensibly because it just wasn't physically possibly to overtake in all my 'normal' places. Anyway, back in the Zed this morning and for a few seconds I thought the clutch servo had packed up, there's no travel in the clutch or throttle, the steering is heavy and what's that bloody exhaust racket - then of course I realised I was back in a proper car .... happy again (even if the MOT has run out and I have to replace a shock (or two) this evening to get it through).
  12. It was detting on my first map but not the second. Have been running on the 2nd ever since - it also made marginally more power. I should have used Optimax but didn't organise my life well enough on the day. Also, you will have noticed that the fan they were using did not adequately direct air at the intercoolers, only the main rad, so I'd guess that wouldn't have helped much either.
  13. Great work and nice to see I gained 8 rwhp ! ;)
  14. I'd talk to Smithy. I have one of his RPS Street jobbies and have been very pleased with it.

  16. I had a long chat with Pete about how he was altering the cam timing with the aim of counteracting the lag of larger turbos on your motor. Looks like it worked and he was right !
  17. He is ?????????
  18. Happy Birthday mate - catching up with me now eh !

If the boost gauge doesn't go above zero then there is a significant possibility that one of his turbos has seized !
