lads i need your help looking at my car today i noticed that there was not as much legroom on the passenger side as there was on the drivers so i lifted the carpet and found velcro connectors fixed to a wooden panel whth 4 small bolts securing it to the floor/bulkhead. oh no i thought ive been shafted:cry: as i imagened the damage or bodges it must be covering. out came the socket set and as i removed the panel to my surprise there was this big box thingy with dozens of wires comming out of it. there was a dial on the side with jap writeing on the side and it said impul racing impul high power control unit z32m 1031 whats it all about lads any ideas?

You have an aftermarket ECU - remapped for increased performance (generally known as 'chipped') - better tell your insurers though as you ain't covered til you declare it!!

The wooden panel is standard although a little odd...

whats the dial for and are they any good?

The dial is for the diagnostic mode etc.

If you have a nice chipped ECU then you probably have increased boost too!

What does it read to on the gauge when you boot it?

my dial only goes up to 7 i just noticed the clocks are impul too????????

its like the one in the top of the picture wish i could read what it says:D

Good job I can read Japanese then ;)

And if steve dont want it i'll have it!!!:D :D ;)

Bugger the insurance company, youve never even looked under that carpet have you???;) ;)

exactly:D :D

Q - 'Has it been modified sir?'

A - 'Why no I havent modified it at all'

the emphasis being on 'I' and you dont know anything about it - its a Japanese car and its in Japanese.....

Yes but IF (and I hope it never happens) you have to claim and the insurers inspect and find stuff you haven't declared - you're not insured. Big risk.

Yup

Seen it happen. Insurance assessors always open the box when it comes to hot cars. Neighbours Escort cossie had a wiring loom fire but they refused to pay out after discovering a chip that the owner honestly did not know about. He had not had it that long and thought that was how fast it was supposed to be.

The insurer shirking responsibility usually...

What a choice you have to make ,,but if you ,,,,,,take the stickers off the unit , then the unit is unknown , and if you have imported the car,,,,,or just bought it , did it have it written anywhere in the advert ?,,,,have you still got the advert to prove this ?,,because if it was not stated any where , then how were you to know it has been modified, in which case youanswered the questions honestly and with proof.......Cover it up again , enjoy the car as you doing so before you found the unit...With the boost controller removed your probably running std anyway......
