ok so stupid me here is now thinking: "this debate about removing recircs and replacing with BOVs loses you some performance doesnt apply to autos cos they dont dump until youve taken your foot off". Can this be right???

Hi fellas, Ive noticed that when I floor the throttle in drive and the autobox changes up a gear, my BOVs dont dump - they only do so once i let off the gas. Does this mean that the box changes up so quick that there's no dump and therefore no loss in performance? The BOVs work fine - I know cos to sound like a car out of F&F ( :slap: ) I have to ease off the gas just before change, then step on again :mac1: (only when there's people watching tho)

i bet he's downgraded the engine to a 1.7d as well :slap:

youre gonna love this mate but it means your brake lights are functioning. they should only come on when you brake tho so if they come on on their own perhaps there's a faulty connection somewhere. one of the experts should guide you if thats the case. also the oil gauge, do you mean the oil pressure gauge inside the rev counter? this changes between when youre idling and when youre caning it. another thread on here will tell you more info, but i think as long as its between say 0.5 and 2 then your ok.

definately some good advice on here - unfortunately someone young died a couple of years ago when they lost control and put their zx into a tree (i think it was the passenger that perished). scarily enough i passed along the same road in the same car (same colour) about an hour before, so apparently there was a bit of confusion between witness statements until i gave the bobby a bell to let him know. as for cars, i know magazines like max power sometimes have a section dedicated to low insurance/first car/modification/young driver etc. (this issue unfortuantely doesn't but its got great dvd footage of zx's doing donuts :hyper: :x: ) good luck with the search mate and see you back here soon i hope

lol i thought it was an rs-focus front because it looks like bonnet vents on either side. i agree with bigalz tho, the headlights are one of the best parts of the car.

Just to put my 2p in: the most important part of this whole club, for me, is the help & advice section. Yes I enjoy reading and contributing now again to the banter, jokes, comments, etc. that gives this club so much personality, but this is where the 'friction' always seems to start. All I can say is that as long as I can ask a question about my car, or can help someone else out with theirs, that's all that matters. ...and if it wasnt for this forum and the people within, i'd probably own a different (crappier) car by now. :bow: Now i'm off to watch Knight Rider. :bow:

ive had a similar problem with my PTU connector mate. I'd been playing with the car (removing radiator, fitting BOVs etc.) and had managed to knock out the conenctor so it was barely plugged in - it gave the same symptoms as yours. At the front of the engine, a silver box tilted at 45 degrees, black plug coming out of the right-hand side. Worth a try. Best of luck.

as greg says it just depends what you want: TT or NA: i think the majority of people have the twin-turbo version, simply cos its faster and more powerful, and easier to modify for more power :hyper: SWB or LWB: LWB is the most popular - basically 2-seater vs 2+2 seater Manual or Auto: down to preference. the sports autobox is damn good (quite easy to break if you misbehave eg. build up revs in neutral, then drop into drive :nono: :nono: ) . Manuals GENERALLY tend to be driven harder than autos. Performance-wise, manuals are slightly faster 0-60 but rumours are that autos are faster 0-100. Unconfirmed as yet :rolleyes: UK vs Import: jap imports GENERALLY tend to be better looked after, are less rusty, and have far less miles on the clock. However they have one or two weaknesses compared to UK spec (the oil cooler for one - £100-ish to uprate) and need to convert speedo/rear fog light (the importer should do this for you if you're importing fresh). Plus imports have Z on the bonnet instead of NISSAN so people dont know what it is :tongue: If youre buying, see the FOR SALE section of this forum as theres loads of well looked-after ones desperately for sale. HTH

damn right - mevagissey is even worse. i honestly dont think a z would fit cos the roads are so narrow, let alone the steep hills!
