  1. Hi Si Your pm's not working... need to send a cheque to you, but don't know the amount yet!! (Don't want you thinkin I've done a runner!). Away wed/ thurs but back Fri so can send then. Rich
  2. if I was starting all over again, I'd get along to a local meet to have a look around a few, and hopefully get an idea of what problems to look for... then I'd be really cheeky and try and get a ride in one - difficult to know how fast they should be if you've never been in one that's running right! (and you'd be surprised how many people buy cars running in safety bosst!!). Assuming you're an ok kind of guy, someone local to you would probably come and look at a car with you - good strategy to stop you just handing over the cash fo the first one you see if nothing else!! Spend as much as you can afford buying one, unless you're handy around cars yourself - servicing costs quickly add up, especially if there are faults needing correcting too. Unfortunately, you don't get your money back on mods, so try and buy one with the mods you intend on doing anyway - cheaper in the long run. Buyers guide here http://www.300zx.co.uk/tech/BuyingZ.htm and finally, don't be put off by any horror stories you read on the forum - people who don't have problems don't post about it! I can honestly say I've had more problems (at least more expensive problems) with new merc than the zed!! good luck in the search, and don't forget the cars for sale on here - some cracking ones about! Rich
  3. link to letter on here https://www.which.co.uk/reports_and_campaigns/money/campaigns/Banking%20and%20credit/consumer_credit/Credit_card_protection_campaign_article_559_77266.jsp (this is the one I've had used against us at work several times and it seems to get a good response - just not for us if you see what I mean!!) Oh, and ou're protected equally for services (i.e. not just faulty goods) - I knoiw that cos we only supply services! Rich
  4. call your credit card company, tell them in no uncertain terms how pissed off you are, explain how this looks like the sale is falling through and if you don't get the money refunded immediately you'll take action against them, including a claim for consequential loss if you end up selling the car cheaper - give me five mins I'll pull out a standard letter... (get payments pulled back a lot at work - surprisingly easy to do!!)
  5. it's just a cycle - I've seen it loads of times. To be fair though, there have been some that have deserved it... Harmz for one - "haterz!!!"
  6. RON is a measure of the fuel's resistance to detonation - deciding to switch to lower octane fuel with the recent weather (i.e. hot) is just asking for trouble!!
  7. the plastic piece has broken... try andy at supercarparts (traders) he'll know what you mean!! I believe on late models there was a metal piece instead but guess you'd be lucky to find one! It is possible to fit the passenger side on the drivers side if you struggle to find one, but forget about someone coming out to fix it - unless they made a part to fit. Easy(ish) to fix yourself - door cards off, lock out and you'll see how it clips together. Rich
  8. have a look yourself, or any garage really (that you trust) shouldn't be too difficult to track down the problem. Few things to check: worn pads (can't remember if there are wear indicators on the rears, but they squeal when there low) play in the wheel (when jacked up!) handbrake adjustment - unlikely, but the rear drum could be binding... good luck!
  9. think i'd want an independent 3rd party to make the call about who's fault it is... I know that if I'd supplied the turbo it'd be the fitter's fault!!
  10. but it only works up to 3000 rpm so chances are you'll still wreck your engine!
  11. they're not all bad - the younger ones near me tend to hang around when i've got the bonnet up cos they know I'll probably start it up and rev it a bit before long!! Funniest thing I heard was "cooooooool exhaust - I could fit my head up that"!! made me chuckle! Even the chav with a corsa next door came round for a nose when I was doin the cambelt! Think he was pretty gobsmacked that any car could possible have that much stuff crammed under the bonnet - guess he's used be being able to look down and see the floor in his!
  12. was gonna say wtf you on about, but searched first...! http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=20410&page=1&pp=15&highlight=beeping
  13. not 100% to be honest - think it was on here I read the explanation. Only problem is, mine said 11 / 8 so both approaches would be possible!!
  14. the timing belt sticker *should* be the age of the car (years / months) at the time the service was done... Rich
  15. you'll probably find that it's been adjusted all the way at the handbrake end already... put it back to the start of it's adjustment, then adjust at the wheels then you'll have the full range of adjustment at the handbrake again! It'll make sense once you get the console off! Rich
  16. some types are glued - makes it a real pain to remove!! (glued to each other rather than the floor).
  17. good luck with it - did mine last weekend and found it surprisingly straightforward (once I'd got everything straight in my head!!). A few tips: you really need 1/2 or 3/8 hex head socket to get the water pipes off - possible with long reach allen key, but mine snapped! make sure you understand the belt-wrapping... you'll be amazed at how violently driver side rotates when you relieve tension!! get a second pair of hands when aligning the new cambelt (i didn't and it took me much longer than it should of!!) don't panic when you rotate the crank and the belt marks are all out... they will line up again, but it takes a while! (For belt and braces, you can count the teeth - details in manual) Good Luck!!
  18. I've seen these going for £50 from a 200sx supplier (can't remember where though) - sold for people with a zx afm upgrade... worth shopping around!
  19. not sure about the rattle - you'd expect it to be pretty cnstant if it was the belt... can't believe how lucky you've been - at least your just looking for a rattle and not a new engine!!
  20. or, if one of the joints has broken, it will drop a cylinder, and carry on failing as it dies! Definitley can't rule out the PTU...
  21. you can if the club has no substantial record of who the person is e.g. address never confirmed/ change of address never notified/ ip unknown/ maliciously registered user - as demonstrated by the out of court settlement involving Demon's newsgroups. "In earlier hearings Demon argued that they were not the publishers of the material, and were not responsible for the posting in the same way a newspaper would be responsible for an article. The court ruled out this defence in March last year. Justice Moreland said the company had no protection under section 1 of the 1996 Defamation Act, which enables a provider to avoid liability if it can prove “innocent dissemination”. The judge ruled that because Demon had refused to remove the postings, it was, in effect, the publisher." IMHO, it's just piling more responsibility on the moderators just so people can spout off!
  22. PTU can fail in many ways, including dropping a cylinder (even internittently as it heats/ cools). Best bet is to find someone local and swap the PTU and find out for definite.
  23. the flame's because unburnt fuel's getting through (read: quit revving the *****cks of it whehn it's not running right!!!) - it's possible you PTU's dying. Try swapping the 'bad' coilpack with a good one to confirm the coil pack itself is ok.
  24. it's all very well in principle, but just one action for libel could drain the club funds in no time just defending it!!
  25. just remember it's not the power advantage you buy the fuel for, it's its resistance to detonation! There may be negligible power advantage of 99 over 95 ron but when you floor it the risk of damage is lower!
