Hi guys

I hope I am allowed to suggest ideas for the forum.

Its just that recently there has been a few threads related to Ebay, where members on this site have been conned. Also, I took my car to a trader just to get the tracking done and they took my car out for a spin twice.

Anyway, my suggestion is to have a 'named & shamed' section so we know what traders/ebay members NOT to trust and why.

Also, a section of traders/ebay members that we CAN trust and why!

Is this allowed?

Another idea is that we have a 'for sale' section under the trade section but I cant seem to see a 'for sale' section under 'open forums'?

Deffo good idea after what I went through.

i agree with the e bay bit / but it could cause a lot of bad feeling if people give bad vibes about traders thats why we have people like mr mike groves and the rest of the 300 commitee if anyone has a problem with a trader speak to mike etc and they will do theyre upmost to sort it in a reasnable manner which causes less unwanted hassles [ just an opinion ] but e bay rip offs and garages that take libertys i totally agree

think it's a nice idea, but not sure it's that wise to put (potentially) libellous threads nicely collected together - especially when it is one-sided and there's no right to reply.

Why not have a seller rating system? Can give feedback...not sure how easy this is to impliment, but I think the VB software can run things like this. Seen it on another VB powered forum I use.

Im a VB developer so could help with this if site is capable!

Good idea, but screw the bad sellers IMHO, i managed for years on ebay buying and selling, but recently things do seem to have taken a turn downhill! If they want a right to reply surly they just need to register here and then they could post to defend themselves! We are (afterall!) entitled to express our opinions, so should be safe from libel action

it's all very well in principle, but just one action for libel could drain the club funds in no time just defending it!!

cant sue the club for an individuals opinion mate.

all it needs is a statement saying these opinions are of members and not of the club

I reckon its a good idea for unknown ebay sellers but it wont happen for traders. For good or bad its the way this forum is run. The traders help the forum by paying to be a trader and the forum helps them by advertising. There would be too much sh*t throwing. Smithy has a good system in place where people can give feedback, but hes selling goods so as long as he keeps his excellent service he can't go wrong. I don't think its so cut and dry with garages. Problems happen and its not always possible to have an agreeable outcome.

you can if the club has no substantial record of who the person is e.g. address never confirmed/ change of address never notified/ ip unknown/ maliciously registered user - as demonstrated by the out of court settlement involving Demon's newsgroups.

"In earlier hearings Demon argued that they were not the publishers of the material, and were not responsible for the posting in the same way a newspaper would be responsible for an article. The court ruled out this defence in March last year. Justice Moreland said the company had no protection under section 1 of the 1996 Defamation Act, which enables a provider to avoid liability if it can prove “innocent dissemination”. The judge ruled that because Demon had refused to remove the postings, it was, in effect, the publisher."

IMHO, it's just piling more responsibility on the moderators just so people can spout off!

I have thought about this a number of times and I still like the idea. I simple eBay good/bad/indifferent type rating might work, but with no comments.

wouldn't they need to take your car out to check that the wheels are set properly?

they took my fiat coupe 20v turbo out once and i went mad but they explained why...but yeah it's most probably because they wanted to ride!

*******s.

It looks like most people like the idea of naming & shaming the bad ebay transactions.

As for traders, we dont want to upset anyone. However, im sure many people take their zeds to other dealers that are not listed on this site such as small garages/tyre repair places/car audio shops etc. Again, it would be good to warn other members of bad/good experiences so people know who to trust! Thats my opinion anyway.

Ive had so many bad experiences in the past, I think something like this would be very useful.

My last car, I took it for a key cut at Nissan. It was one of those keys that had a chip so I had to take it to Nissan.

I was standing outside the waiting room and heard one of them say to their mate "listen to this engine" and reved the crap out of my car!

This sort of thing is not fair, I just think it would be a good idea to share peoples experiences in order to gain trust in those garages/traders/shops that do do an honest days work!

I shouldnt have to write my mileage down on a postet note and stick it on the dash whenever I get work done on it!

I have thought about this a number of times and I still like the idea. I simple eBay good/bad/indifferent type rating might work, but with no comments.

Indeed, I did a few screen grabs to illustrate how it works on another forum I use (using VBulliten).....hope this gives you an idea.

AVForums use that same rating system, I thought it was a bespoke system, obviously not.

This was the sort of thing I was thinking of. See attached! :)

This was found on another forum (http://www.almeraownersclub.com) as my previous car was an Almera GTI and they have always had this facility but for some reason they deleted all the old threads. You just cant get the staff nowadays! :headvswal

Unfortunately, my beloved Almera GTI was sold to a proper chav who can't speak english!

Subscribed members cant even have a link in their sig on here if it relates to their business.

So im guessing that the avatar style will be out.

Your better off asking one of the mods than them members, as i dont think they ask the subscribed members about stuff like this.
