  1. The harnesses aren't that expensive IMO and OEM harnesses aren't going to be around much longer. I would personally invest as you'd increase reliability 10 fold.
  2. You do not need a new fuel rail, use the existing one. You just just need the injector clamp adaptors and the connector adaptors (if you're not replacing the harness). If you're going to the trouble of replacing them all with new style injectors, you might as well upgrade - you have a bit of future proofing then and some tuning options if you ever want to run much higher boost levels and for the small additional cost, it makes sense. I went for 740cc NISMO (brand new genuine) although you can also get 615cc but there's not much in it price-wise. With 740cc, you can run higher ethanol content up to E85. I bought all new from Z1. Would not trust used or reconditioned or other vendors. I also replaced my engine harness with a new OEM 96 version to fully future-proof (along with S2 CAS and PTU and a SpecialtyZ tune) as they were becoming harder to get hold of and repairing 30 year old crusty harnesses is a fool's errand. You have no idea how well it ran. It was literally like driving a new car.
  3. Gel / 4D plates are really cheesy IMO. Nice E90, I had an E90 M-sport with the Motorsport wheels. Lovely drive.
  4. Love it! Looked great in the flesh too! ?......apart from those dreadful 4D plates!
  5. Deffo is the WORST time of the year to have an event like this if they want to attract any retro cars especially.
  6. Depends whether UK spec (wider rears) or not.
  7. I think before anything like that, the forum needs dramatic streamlining, something I've been saying for years but little seems to change. There are section after section of either unused or pointless sub areas on here which I'm sure puts folks off driving them to Facebook and to such dreadful pages as the poorly named NISMO 300zx page. There are 44 sub sections on the forum's main page. Regions really needs to be combined to a national section - there simply aren't enough active users and owners to generate traffic and regular regional meets. The PC Tech corner is probably the biggest waste of bandwidth on here with one section not being posted in for a decade...A DECADE. That whole area needs removing - this is a car enthusiasts' page. The Premium Members' area is full of pointless sub categories too. 'Jokes plus video games and links'. Why is that even on here? In my opinion this is all you need to make it slick: Standard Member forums: * Meet the club and membership enquiries * Newbies * Issue tracker: Subscribed Member forums: * General Chat (non Z related) * Z General Chat * Technical * Styling * FAQ area * Meetings and Events * Classifieds It doesn't need anymore than that. You don't need sub categories for Photoshop requests or dyno results, there just isn't enough traffic for that and only achieves in making the forum look heavily cluttered. Keep it simple. This forum is (was) a wonderful resource; there's an amazing amount of information on here, a lot which helped me during my early days of 300zx ownership and then subsequently, information I put back in. Sadly though most of this is almost impossible to find with the migration over to this current forum software; the search engine just doesn't seem to be able to drag out the information and that's key to opening up this forum to a wider audience. It's now easier to search on the Facebook pages (granted, you get a huge amount of bad information on there, but at least it's searchable). My two penneth.
  8. Significantly. Search functions and edit functions on this current system just have a massive lack of functionality.
  9. Forgot how painful this forum is to use when editing posts and trying to add a photo to an edited post....ie, hopeless. ?
  10. Whilst I never laid mine up for the entire winter, I definitely did not use it when it was wet or salty. Part of the enjoyment of ownership of one of these cars is the care and preservation. ? Who wants rust and stonechips all over their car? I certainly don't/didn't but I did use it and drove it all over Europe. The Aston gets the same treatment. I had the garage in my new house all lined, painted, decent flooring and also heated. Having a radiator in the garage is not really for the car's benefit, but for mine. It's lovely to have a tinker in the garage in warmth and comfort.
  11. ROLL ON SUMMER Not wanting to wish my time away, but I truly detest the winter. There is nothing I like about....oh yes there is, when it's finally over....a bit like Christmas which is about as over rated as football and Fish & Chips. ?
  12. So glad I got almost no snow. I EFFING DETEST the stuff.
  13. Hallelujah, I never thought I'd ever read those words from Richard Smith. ? Preserve your Zs y'all!
  14. Yup, the biggest cause of 300zxs catching on fire are hose clamps vibrating lose over time/via heat cycling and then fuel finding its way onto hot surfaces.
  15. True, but once they're in, they're on. Not shitty hose clamps to vibrate lose.
  16. Having a rummage around earlier through a multitude of car photos, I came across the work I did to my Z when I replaced the entire engine harness, starter/earthing harness, new NISMO 740s and had everything else aqua-blasted and coated, shot blasted and powder coated, replated and a LOT of new genuine stuff, plus enlarged throttles. Essentially the top half of the engine bay incl. rocker covers, all new gaskets yada yada. The harness(es) was (were) OEM as only OEM will do, I opted for a later one so as to use later style CAS and PTU and without having to de-pin and re-pin for newer connectors for the injectors. Complete plug and play solution and I can tell you how much a new OEM harness and injectors did to make the car run even better than it did before - silky smooth and responsive. New OEM starter motor too - reliability was good with that car, but this made it bomb proof. Also opted for a new fan and new fan clutch, new FPR and fuel damper, some lovely rare new old-stock parts, such as genuine intake and boost hoses, the starter/earth harness which also went NLA, new clutch booster hose which I actually brought back from Japan with me. At the time it also had a full service, all new belts, water pump, oil, plugs, radiator. For those of you doing this sort of thing yourself, it is hard work, but it's so rewarding. It's a hard engine bay to look after as it all exposed and hard to reach for cleaning, but with all the new parts as well as the new coatings, it ran unbelievably well. Don't waste your time trying to repair old crusty harnesses, it really is a fool's errand. Naturally, all of the larger jobs were done by PowerZed.
  17. How do you lose or forget you have things like this. Didn't you manage to lose or forget that you had more than one Veilside Evolution exhaust system laying around? ?
  18. I'd personally order a new one so that you have the seal, all the fixings - everything you need. They're not particularly expensive, about £150 from memory although they don't travel well so you'd be best collecting from whichever vendor you chose.
  19. I personally wouldn't use a mastic seal. There are clips that slide into the back which secure through screws through the boot lid.
  20. They were an engineered finish on the aluminium calipers and a plated finish (I believe) on the Iron ones. They weren't really a 'colour' as such. You might be able to match up a RAL colour to the aluminum ones if you have a set with a bit of the original finish on them.
  21. Fear not, Richard Smith will be out in his - his favourite time of the year to be driving his Z! ? I never drove my Z in the salt, never ever. It was completely rust free and still is, never been welded. The Aston doesn't go anywhere near the stuff either. I cringe at the amount of salt they put down in this country. At the mere hint of 1 degree even with a low dewpoint they're out there lathering the roads in this nasty stuff. Pop across the channel and into northern France and they put it down when there's an actual chance of ice being on the road rather than a bit of frost which has about the same level of grip as a road covered in saline.
