  3. There was a time when used parts for the zed were expensive but there was a huge demand and so a trade in use parts was both successful and lucrative. However buying and storing breakers to dismantle has its own costs attached so while the demand was high it was self serving. However a new spin on used Z parts came into play.......home dismantling ! this became increasingly popular as the lucrative parts market seemed endless. Of course it was not and whilst selling a part from home for £20 made the seller a decent profit, for traders working from commercial premises paying rent and insurance it was not and slowly the professional used parts market was eroded away. Of course as the now less professional ( no warranty ) home part traders continued to supply the market in their multipuls the profit slowly became less worth the hassle and moans from neighbours, wife's, moms killing off the said cottage industries. Of course by this time the professional parts suppliers were gone, I personally had at one time 30 zeds We were breaking along side the workshop and often owners would turn up with wish list or just to look and go away having spent several hundred pounds. Those days are gone, well gone, falling numbers and parts no longer available are going to start making a real effect on remaining zeds, especially the less expensive one's that themselves will end up as parts fodder, sad really. 4. is it actually possible to make it better ? seems so for £1.5 million a car, 25 maximum build and ALL presold !! https://www.astonmartin.com/en/media-centre/press-releases/2016/12/09/db4-gt-continuation---history-in-the-making Aston Martin plans to create a limited run of DB4 GT lightweight models with VIN numbers following on from the 75 1960s originals Aston Martin is to bring its iconic DB4 GT back to life, revealing plans for a run of continuation models to be built to lightweight specification at Newport Pagnell – the first cars to roll off the production line at the Buckinghamshire base in ten years. Between 1959 and 1963 a total of 75 DB4 GTs were built there, though only eight of those were lightweight models. Today these cars are valued at over £3m. The new batch will consist of 25 examples using continuation VIN numbers, and while they’ll be crafted faithful to the design of the original eight lightweights, they’ll benefit from more powerful engines, better brakes, plus improved safety features. Aston promises that the mix of traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques will build on the original character of the lightweights rather than replace it though. 5. How gutting to leave your classic BMW parked outside a garage on the road for the mechanics to work on it and some errent driver uses it as a buffer stop point, jeez I can feel his pain....sad. Jeff
  6. Great write up there Andy nice one, but what a case of over engineering by Nissan as is the case on many parts of the 300zx, why did they not just add an extra section to the track on the fuel gauge slider ?? would have worked just as well without the need for an extra power circuit and thermister, but that`s Nissan for you. Note: The low resistive value of led bulbs actually causes an issue when changing them on the dash cluster as there is enough pass through the thermister even when cooled by the petrol to light up, seen many low fuel lights on for this reason even with full tanks. Jeff
  7. Not too sure actually, was watching some programme about car theft and ringing and it bought it to mind, nothing sinister. Jeff
  8. Maybe your on to something there...lol - - - Updated - - -
  9. Nah , modding or intentionally manipulating or altering the weather by Governments and the illuminati ( same thing ) Jeff
  10. yep thanks for that lol
  11. Unbelievable !! Europe wide weather is well messed up at the moment, was watching news reports of snow in Benidorm and Alicante the other day amazed and then wham woke to our very own freezing morning.......plain weird Jeff
  12. In my experience the earlier injector failures are caused by the poor connection, any electrical circuit that has poor connection draws more current and in turn the circuit warms up, this is what cause the small injector coil insulation to fail, during this time any Ohms resistance testing will indicate how the insulation and coil integrity is holding up. The internal coil winding legs also can corrode and snap, this is when you get an open circuit and total failure and by far the most common fault, the later injectors had more robust connectors that all most certainly eliminated the connection and high current load issue, along with the earlier circuit wiring that continues to stay live even when the engine is switched off. Any green gung in the connector along with any moisture present will react with the voltage present when the engine is switched off and cause more problems. The high ethanol content issue was a US problem not in the UK as their allowance is three times what is or has been allowed in UK fuel, in every single injector failure I have seen / worked on it is either a very high resistance coil or an open circuit one not pintle damage. In fact provided the original ones are kept clean they will give long, long service, many zeds were are talking about now are still running on original units 28 years on, cannot really call them weak. Jeff
  13. Well that is real good news that you have resolved it to your satisfaction, I remember at the time that actual clear information was scarce at the time and that made the whole episode seem so much worse, thanks for the update, weird I missed it the original but all good now. Jeff
  14. Aha that is as good as one could expect I guess, good on the agent but maybe a part refund to take into account for resale value would have been appropriate too, oh well all that ends well etc. Jeff
  15. Mmm.... yes quite, that is why I wondered how it was concluded as as I understand it the sale was done and then the issue found, kinda cannot see a way forward with that, if you bought a car in the UK and found that after sale it would be either a police job or very least full refund. Guessing the seller was unaware too which is hard on both parties but then if I remember was not a "cheapy " which compounds the issue. Jeff
  16. Oh, not sure why I missed that, so the vin been hacked out, was that resolved as to why? Jeff
  17. Was wondering if there was any resolution to the zed that was on here last year newly imported and had the VIN number crudely cut out ? seem to remember it went on a bit and many were suggesting the seller had a role to play in helping out. Now it may well be all was resolved and to a good outcome (?) and lets hope so for all parties, however do not remember seeing anything to suggest that, any links would be appreciated sure other members have wondered too. Jeff
  18. Ask some question of the garage doing the work > what is the minimum amount they do on a cambelt change It should be cambelt, thermostat, inlet hoses, antifreeze and timing check anything less is a poor job. Extras like water pump and cambelt pulleys ask for a price for those and for them to be inspected along with the ancillary belts. Insist on a genuine Nissan cambelt and correct temperature thermostat. Insist on seeing all old parts removed and changed, ask for a picture to be taken when stripped After you have asked these questions and got satisfactory answers you might find the price has changed. Save yourself the grief of an unqualified job results and call Jim at PowerZed, well worth the journey and less costly in the long run. Jeff
  19. Yes it will, takes a little more effort though, guess you mean the few connections where the steel and new copper meet? Will be fine if so, however if you plan on replacing with steel pipe completely ( not reccomended) a bigger unit would be better, maybe a bench type one. Jeff
  20. Don't get too worried about single or double flare the kit above does both, just a case of using the correct press bits. Jeff
  21. You will need a roll of 3/16 Copper Tube Brake Pipe and 10 mm fittings to match, these are readily available from your local motor factor, you will also need to invest in a flaring tool for between £10 to £15 such as this one>>> Jeff
  22. Any good quality make of oil provided it is a 10w x 40 semi- synthetic will be fine, no need for overly expensive stuff as you will be changing it and the genuine Nissan filter every 3k to 5k miles depending on driving style. One of the very weak points on the zed engine is the cooling system, this if not 100% will let you down and toast a perfectly good engine, the rebuild whilst a good bonus is also dependant on who did it and to what level. Cars that have been laid up for extended times can be troublesome once back on the road so the re-commissioning needs to be extensive or you will find yourself with a potential break down every other time you use it which is plain daft, get it done correctly and then enjoy the ride as they say. Jeff
  23. Anything made of rubber needs checking / changing, the tyres will be toast even if they look okay, they are over 7 years old and most likely got flats on. Jeff
  24. Sorry if I sound negative but the MOT history is dire, failed 4 MOT in last seven over 11 years done around 8k miles and most of the advisory work at each MOT is the same so has been consistently ignored, even though many are referring to corrosion and brakes ! That all said, if bought as a project and at project price then your going have some fun getting it back to a worthy zed, as far as the gear lever excess movement you mention. That is an easy repair and done from inside the car, it needs the nylon bush inserts changing, under a tenner for both so happy days. 25. Mmm.... good luck kidda, not got a great history that one  Jeff
