Where has it gone? The parts market I mean. In times gone by there were parts a plenty on here and eBay. I'm not just talking about rusty parts off breakers but good parts too. Obviously numbers are dwindling but the numbers of parts for sale are nothing like what they were. Obviously this club should be the go to place to find second hand parts.

Thoughts?

I'm stock piling brand new parts, its those I'm more interested. More and more stuff is becoming obsolete. I've been very lucky of late and have managed to source some brand new parts that are no longer available. There's plenty of plastic trim parts that are vanishing and all manner of stuff.

Maybe it's time the club relaxed its sales rules to encourage freer trade and encourage more parts to be available.

I really don't think there's much out there if I'm honest, so I doubt that would make any difference. If you look at what's for sale on ebay, it's the same old nonsense that no one wants. Far less cars are being broken for parts these days and what's left isn't really worth a duck's fart.

Lots of over priced rusty suspension arms etc on eBay. That's about it. Used to be gems about if you were prepared to hunt.

There was a time when used parts for the zed were expensive but there was a huge demand and so a trade in use parts was both successful and lucrative. However buying and storing breakers to dismantle has its own costs attached so while the demand was high it was self serving.

However a new spin on used Z parts came into play.......home dismantling ! this became increasingly popular as the lucrative parts market seemed endless. Of course it was not and whilst selling a part from home for £20 made the seller a decent profit, for traders working from commercial premises paying rent and insurance it was not and slowly the professional used parts market was eroded away.

Of course as the now less professional ( no warranty ) home part traders continued to supply the market in their multipuls the profit slowly became less worth the hassle and moans from neighbours, wife's, moms killing off the said cottage industries.

Of course by this time the professional parts suppliers were gone, I personally had at one time 30 zeds We were breaking along side the workshop and often owners would turn up with wish list or just to look and go away having spent several hundred pounds. Those days are gone, well gone, falling numbers and parts no longer available are going to start making a real effect on remaining zeds, especially the less expensive one's that themselves will end up as parts fodder, sad really.

Baz is now our official used parts trader, but hasnt been on in a while, im sure there are some breakers out there and we dont have any rules to hinder someone breaking a car to sell parts, only if a car is bought with the specific intention of making money from our members. The breakers yard was created to try and stop that issue and to help save the zeds rather than breaking for profit.

As time has progressed and less zeds are being broken, as said it is now harder to acquire good used parts.

Yup - in a nut shell, IMO.....

And it's no coincidence that decent Z32s are fetching higher prices on the market too. Those rusty old Ebay £1,500 cars have long since gone - been broken up and spares sold on. Likewise with the cheap purchases, bought and thrashed; and ultimately crashed into trees. And then harvested for parts.....

.....The remaining cars are those found on here; cherished and enthusiast-owned. So much fewer cars out there, to actually be broken for spares.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I don't use FB, does anyone feel that detracts or damages the club?

Though it's not for everyone, there is lots more for sale on it and it has a larger user base.

Some of the people are twits though [emoji38]

This is as I suspected. Why does that (twit or not) members base miss us out. Why does that trade remain away from here.

One of two reasons - either because they have an issue with the forum itself, or because they don't have to pay £20 to sell parts on Facebook.

That's the simple truth.

And also the convenience of it being able to easily contact someone and get notifications and such rather than going through the whole forum thing which takes longer.

There's still not a massive amount on the UK 300zx trader pages. Better than eBay for more interesting parts, but volume us low.

That may be so but you're not a member of the nismo or the mark Kent one are you?

It's still quite perky with new sale threads coming up everyday

I am a member of the one Mark runs but I'd sooner eat a turd than go on the UK 300zx Nismo page. It's as tragic as Facebook pages get.
