  1. Threads like this highlight the inconsistencies with MOT testing standards and tester, to be fair they have to use an antiquated system that has had a 2016 facade painted over it, the system needs a complete overall. Jeff
  2. Totally agree that "sun, booze and sunsets every night is great for some " but as a lifetime been tea total that at least removes that issue, many, many expats here turn into regular morning wine drinkers, in the main because of the low, low cost, 1€ a litre for a decent red !! where Fanta orange is 2.50€ a can in a restaurant/ The motorsport scene here is a fairly new emerging sport, as is classic and sports car ownership in general, involve myself with that every month as well as enjoying the more relaxed life. Can fully understand your return to the UK invigorated you, but guessing that was a while back, the UK is not the place it was in a 100 ways, but of course been so close in comparison to the US we can can be back on a cheap 35€ flight in 2 hours 20 mins, does make it so much easy to enjoy both sides of the coin I guess. Saying that, you cannot say a walk along our local marina on a warm evening is boring and makes you feel old surely?? Jeff
  3. You so right, falling in love with were you holiday is easily done, living there can and is very, very different, almost made that very mistake first hand after many years of holidaying in the South of France we decided it was the place for us and set about selling up and moving out there, got the kids in school and sorted temporary place to live etc. right at the last moment and I mean THE DAY, we realised that at that time, three kids under 10 years old , family and overly high expectations it would have been a disaster, and we could not do it, so lucky the house had not sold ..... that was 25 years ago ! The move to Portugal has been part of a ten year plan, by purchasing extra house in the UK and building a base of friends and business associates in Portugal etc. we basically have moved not only to were we holidayed for the past 15 years but to where we know, where we are known and people we know, arriving here when ever we venture back to the UK is just like getting home to us, it does help the kids are grown up and married with their own lives now of course but living in another country is definitely not for everyone, for us we have best of both with still another house in the UK and a home here, not happy about the recent drop in the exchange rate but hey ho.. Jeff

  9. That particular zed has been a subject of discussion before recently when it was originally priced at near £20k !! a quick look around zeds for sale would suggest the prices have slowed off recently, some decent sub £5k TT come up again, mainly on E-bay, was different in the summer though. This is a typical import value 1995 TT one ebay £5k 79k miles silver http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-300zx-Twin-Turbo-Fresh-Import-/112192264683?hash=item1a1f2e19eb:g:jVkAAOSwQgpW~5mk Jeff

  11. Failed on the following which I need some help/advice with. Reason(s) for failure nearside Rear wheel steering ball joint has excessive play (2.2.B.1i) offside Rear wheel steering ball joint has excessive play (2.2.B.1i) Nearside front Vehicle structure has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.B.2) Easy access means any garage could clean that up and weld support plates over. Will I need a press? No The problem here is that it is unlikely the tester could determine for sure if it was the outer or inner bush where the wear was, this requires two people one to shake the wheel and one to hold the two bushes separately and see which needs doing. A vast amount of the time its is the inner unit, this is so much easier to change. If this is the case I made a tech thread a few years ago about changing the arms, see link below with pictures. Note though it is for earlier non electric hicas, the only difference when changing is the later electric ones are easier to change as they do not need to be locked off on the opposite sides, and for your info the later electric ones do use different arms to the early type, easy to find though. Link >>>> http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?147816-Hicas-arm-replacement-tech&highlight=hicas+tech nearside Front suspension has slight play in a lower suspension ball joint (2.5.B.1a) offside Front suspension has slight play in a lower suspension ball joint (2.5.B.1a) These aren't too serious. but could this cause the movement I feed when I hit the brakes? Feels like there is a slight forwards/backwards movement when the brakes initially engage. really annoying but I have not been able to pin it down yet. So it is possible the lower ball joints are worn, however if your getting slight forwards/backwards movement when braking it is more likely the tension road bushes, these locate the front arm position ( see picture ) for these you will need a press to change the bushes, but quite easy to remove and drop in at a local garage to swap the bushes for you and then you can refit them to the car. Ok hope that helps. Jeff
  12. Shiny !! use good pads and don`t push back them caliper pistons without clamping the brake lines and opening the bleed nipple, or you might just pop the master cylinder seals, easily done, have fun. Jeff
