  1. Normally we used to fill with around 3.5 litre after fitting drained box as some was left in pipeline cooler and torque convertor. However as you overfilled the cooler lines and torque convertor will be completly full, so with a litre fill plus starting to half empty the torque convertor ( 2 litre ) you almost there. Run up through the gears and check whilst hot and running in park, sounds like your almost done. Jeff
  2. Hi thanks we are real good, enjoying life to the full !! Jeff & Lynda
  3. No bother, search the word Cambelt and my name JeffTT in advanced search and you find plenty of Cambelt tech threads I have done over the years. Jeff
  4. Nice easy one there, cambelt slap, either the adjuster is all the way out, set wrong or in need of replacement, you will need to do a full Cambelt change including the belt pulleys and the adjuster. Heard that sound so many times over the years, nothing to worry about engine wise just needs the above job doing, give Jim a call at PowerZed will have it done for you in no time at all. Jeff
  5. Classic Halfords / E-bay chrome letters !! Jeff
  6. Yes the old town part though, the other side from where stayed Tony which is still a little probably busier. Jeff
  7. Central Algarve Jeff
  8. Yeh remember that, just a wiggle here and there eh? Jeff
  9. Defo the calm before the party storm ... saying that the sunset tonight was just magical. Jeff
  10. Of course yes you are quite correct, I was thinking stock wastegates again, usually after market ones have adjustable rods to preload the spring, if so these could be backed off I guess but would need checking with a vacuum pump and gauge to ensure they are both the same. Jeff
  11. Ok not standard actuator boost, that explains the higher boost level, you know there is a valid point that you can have too much power for a certain chassis set up, lower boost in your case may actually feel more controlled and ultimately quicker on the road, as whilst you wheel are spinning your getting less forward push as it were. A good boost controller with individual gear boost parameters / level`s would almost certainly make the car feel quicker and more controlled overall as it will match the turbo / engine / boost build time in relation to how the engine can build and retain boost, of course as other`s said some tyre and suspension work needs attending too also. Jeff
  12. Some of this does not make sense, basic actuator boost is the same as safety boost, around 5.5 psi, making heavy work of getting the power down and with a slipping clutch at such low boost would seem odd, unless of course it is boosting more than you think or the "new tyres" are bad, also a slipping clutch at low boost is also unlikely unless its is completely worn out. Another point, you mention "when the boost came on at 120mph it spun the tyres again" again 5.5 psi of boost would feel crazy poor at 120 mph, and quite why did it go and come back? do you mean when changing gear? Unless I have misunderstood what your saying, non of it adds up. Jeff
  13. Have not read the link but see the mention of dash removal and nearly spat out my breakfast ! having done scores of conversions I can confirm never in a million years would you need to take out the dashboard on a rhd zed ! in fact the work to do that amounts to a big part of the conversion. In a workshop its a days work, if you have done it before or at least done a heater matrix swap the clutch and brake pedal part of the job should take no longer than 1 hour, take the seat out lay on your back and its easy. Jeff
  14. Can be one or a combination of things, oil drain down is a major contributor with the more obvious noisy lifters but mostly though things get gummy, not quite a technical term but anyhow valve stems seals have a longer time to leak down, pcv valves, and even the piston ring oil control rings can get stuck up. Even modern oils seem to have the same issue, and combine it with any trapped moisture in the engine and exhaust and its no surprise really, keeping everything flowing is a much better idea. Saying that I am not a great fan of starting engines and running at idle for 30 minutes once and a while to keep it up and running, I am sure it makes thing worse with moisture been the main problem and even the oil not getting to correct temperature another, if you can, it is way, way better to go for a 20 -30 miles trip if you can, will pay dividends in the end, and a real biggy is not to forget the oil still degrades even if your not using the car. Changing the oil can have great benefits, it gives the engine the best change of course and also removes any moisture and broken down products due to ageing, often cars that have been laid up and brought out for an MOT will struggle with emissions testing for all the reasons mentioned above, a spirited run will often sort it out, changing the oil can have similar results, depending on the oil condition when parked up. How long do these issues take to sort out after been parked up is difficult to say generally as each car / engine is different, however when ever we change pcv valves on a smoking zed we suggest maybe 300 or even 400 miles to be sure its all clear, can be a problem with little used zeds as some only cover that over a few months so never really sorts itself out. As an example when I bought my last zed it was fine for a few weeks and then started to smoke on idle, this was many years ago when less was known of the issues but on a hunch I decided to go on a 300 mile round trip one day. The car never, never smoked again. It had clearly been not used for a long time having come from Japan on the slow boat and stop started many times, with my short journey use after this time it really needed a " blow out" and well once done it was fine and 12 years later still was, then it had numerous oil changes, some times with less than 1000 miles in between, but all proved to be money in the bank ! Jeff
  15. Leaving the car unused for long periods can sometime cause smoking not unlike a turbo issue. Jeff
  16. Well after what seems like an endless Summer here, an evening in old Town is a reminder of what living in a tourist run area out of season looks like, thankfully we live in a vibrant Portuguese village some 15 km away that just gets slightly busier in the season and not dependant on tourism, having said that makes for easier parking when you do go into town, just finding a restaurant open is well..... another problem ha ha ( but we did ) This is the locals tell us the time they spend with family as much as possible as in two weeks time the Festival and New year celebrations will swell the town by many thousands.. Jeff
  17. Well I guess someone has been a little shy with the real truth on this one, but lets face it its a daily occurrence in the second hand car market in general not just zeds. One point I would make is the year of registration and actual year of manufacture discrepancy, in the day ( 10 years ago) I warned many, many times on here of this practice. I even named a few of the garages who were doing it, mainly in Birmingham I might add and ALL of them run by Asian families. In fact we used to register on our data base actual manufacture date against the registration date and inform our customer, and be aware we stopped doing it some years back and a good 30% to 40% of imports on 92, 93 and 94 plates are usually 1990 cars. Bear in mind we stopped doing this and we did not see everyone of them so its a good chance there is more than that still about. It also messed with the market values at the time terribly and was a factor in the demise of the UK zed prices, when you had a supposed 94 model ( actually a 1990 ) on sale for more than half the price or a 94 UK car, of course they sold to people who did not recognise the trim and spec differences between years, but the price / values drop was significant at the time. Badges and after market stickers used to be the in thing years ago and now are so simple to reproduce or buy off e-bay anyone can be misled, specialist look at any new purchase is a great idea in principle BUT often buyers do not want to spend a couple of hundred quid on an independent technical appraisal and so the problem still exists. Jeff
  18. Me too, been off the road a while according to the MOT details online. Jeff
  19. Ah bum should of removed the auction house name, end of that thread then ! Jeff
  20. Good start, come on guys don`t be shy .. Jeff
  21. A little interesting one here, quite a surprise to come across this Zed at a UK auction today, it did sell so have a guess guys see who can be the closest.... Jeff
