May the 3rd be with you........
Wow, I remember in the day how the Supra and 300zx battle raged, as a lover of the 300zx I could see no wrong with my z32 ride, however the Supra always commanded higher prices than the zed, are infinitely more tunable and reliable ( hate to say ) test of time has seen the playing field level out a lot but the Supra just had that newer design edge with 6 speed manual gearbox active spoilers, traction control etc. Jeff

Am i missing something !!
Jeez what a shed !! get real everyone £6.5 k for a car that last seen the inside of an MOT station 4 years ago is complete bonkers !! of course no insurance and tax ! but hang on a minute apparently it is worth £6.5 k and its NOT insured ?? and the price does not include the wheels ! what ?? This is everything I have been saying about the current trend to pick any car over 20 years old, call it a classic and attach an unrealistic price to it, he has not even bothered to clean it? at that sort of price the seller could at least try a bit !! assuming original post above was sarcastic? ( jeez I hope so !) £1,200 minger best used as a breaker ! Jeff - - - Updated - - -

Speed Assist Solenoid i think ?
Provided it is not effecting the steering a weep there will not have an impact on the MOT, you may get an advisory of a leak to cover the tester. Jeff
-
Speed Assist Solenoid i think ?
The solenoid has a rubber o ring where it fits to the steering rack and this can be changed quite easily, the solenoid to valve body looks to be threaded in, and if this is where it is leaking rather than running around from the O ring I am not sure if it would come undone. Unless its leaking excessively I would be inclined to just keep an eye on it and see how it goes, as I said the O rings is easy the body thread seal maybe better to get a good second hand one. Jeff

General Election Called for 8th June
Maybe so, but for me coalitions are always the worst of a collection of bad idea`s, no direction, no single commitment and certainly not fit for purpose. If that fool Corbyn gets anywhere near No10 I fear all will be lost in the UK, politically moral is already seen to be at its lowest ever ....YET ! but see an even deeper chasm over the Corbyn horizon. Problem with servo after Hicas lights up
The notchy feel is correct, what your feeling is the stator moving in the field windings, as the magnets are permanent one`s, you will be inducing a magnetic field when turning it and that`s what makes it feel like that, if you connect the tester to it ans spin as best you can and get a reading then it is working ok. 1990 twin turbo manual
Did it have a central intercooler once ? maybe why you thought of doing the pipework like that, still you got it working so cannot knock your inventiveness. Bargain !!!! James buy these quick ! Jeff

1990 twin turbo manual
There is a default setting for a disconnected or failed maf which limits revs, with no inter cooler`s fitted the maf was not getting any air so was treated as a failed maf. Interestingly your temporary pipework was an over kill all you needed was to link the two sided pipes in an original configuration at each corner like in picture below. Jeff

Automatic gearbox
When ever dealing with auto box changing issues you have to realise there is a whole series of conditions that have to be correct for the gearbox and its controls to deal with changing gear at the correct road and engine speed, but first identifing it as an electronic fault or a mechanical fault is key. The gearbox on a zed can fail internally and when it does it needs a rebuild when they do the gear change is as you describe and how the fault will present itself, that said electronic issues will also give the same issues but are more easily fixed so quite a difference between the two repairs. If the gearbox fluid is clean and the correct level then without specialist line pressure equipment you cannot really test any more, changing the fluid and filter can improve a working gearbox that just needs a service, however a gearbox with blocked filter will have no drive, so its unlikely that will solve anything at this time. So on to the electronics, the tps circuit as mentioned above is one of the most important settings for the gearbox to know when to change gear, it also takes speed and load readings as well as gearbox internal speed signals as part of the process but if the tps circuit is faulty or incorrectly set the change will always be compromised. If the tps requires checking as well as the actual tps circuit which can suffer from water issues from leaking targa drains, check out the links below for more information about this, also it can be worth disconnecting the battery for an hour to reset the autobox ecu. Speed signal is also very important, if there is any issue with the speedo or the speed signal the gear change will be as you describe, a general check of the engine set up can also have a factor as engine load is also taken into account by the ecu for the gearbox, and finally rare but a possibility is the gearbox ecu itself can be malfunctioning, however this is not often the case. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?175920-Pesky-targa-drains-and-electrical-issues&highlight=targa http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?132099-Water-leaks-electrical-issues-and-targas&highlight=targa Jeff

Just to clarify the ecu is 8 bit with OBC 1 diagnostic and so does not have the ability to enforce limp home mode like modern cars can, air leaks and or afm problems can limit rev limit though. Jeff

At the risk of sounding like an old fart...
Oh yes at night in bed on a small radio on Medium Wave, ( 208 mw ) remember the signal would increase and fade and sometimes stop all together for minutes at a time, usually listened to via one of those single little earphone things made of the most uncomfortable plastic known to man, but carefully arranged the radio, cable and earphone ( mullet pulled over ) was not visible when Mon or Dad checked in if you were asleep, eyes shut tight but pure teenage bliss in one ear...... oh they were the days.
