My Soulmate Bill has passed away
So sorry for your loss, often seems the good one`s slip away too early, its a wicked condition and seems these days everyone is touched by it either a friend or loved one, your brave care. time and love was the ultimate sacrifice for him and to be there at the end is to be applauded.... not sure I would be so brave as you both. MOT advisories - future preparation..
More and more parts are available as pattern parts now as the cars get older and Nissan`s commitment to keep up parts supply gets less, mostly all steering and suspension parts can be sourced as pattern parts, from experience the quality is good too. Jeff

Rear light opinions - big ass car
Maybe paint the panel gloss black ( by a body shop please ) and tint the lights, would give a cosmetic function to the panel, or leave it as is its what you like is important, saying that I find myself drawn to the ones in the link below, very different ! Rear light opinions - big ass car
One thing to be aware of, to fit those rear panels and lights the light apertures have to be cut away and depending on how good this was done ( or not ) you may have trouble returning to normal lights without replacing be it in sections the rear panel. Jeff

ECU fault
Like most things anything can be fixed but at what cost?? an ecu is what £100 or less, a repair is unlikely to be much less, finding another ecu is most likely the best way, not sure if I have any socket one`s will take a look see if I can help you out, but got a feeling most of what I have are 16 bit series 2 / 3 ones which is no good, will update later when I have been to my workshop. Saying that, we had a good relationship with these guys and they even scanned a car for a whole day to build a data base of inputs and outputs at our workshop to add it to their own data base, so they could fix it but its the cost thing.... https://www.atpelectronics.co.uk/ Jeff

ECU fault
Simple one, the new ( used ecu ) is faulty, the ecu controls the fuel pump module, it does this by monitoring the crank angle sensor, this is done on the mother board via output transistors, it would seem one of these output transistors has a failed gate and is leaking enough current flow to trigger the fuel pump module. Ecu`s are quite robust but they are all 25+ years old now so very likely will be seeing more of these kind of problems as they get older. Jeff

High flow cats
Reply from VOSA when asked to clarify the position, having personally taken hundreds of zeds for MOT testing over the years I can confirm the following seems to be about as accurate as you can get, there is a valid argument to be had when some testers will just do a full cat test if the car is registered after August 1992 without checking the rules ie "If there is not an exact match in the Emissions book, then the vehicle will be subject to a non-cat emissions test " we know and can see from the link / picture below the 300zx Z32 no longer appears on the data sheets, be aware that some testers even confuse the z33 350z and it is highly doubt full the average 300zx will pass that test, worth printing off the section from the VOSA site and taking it with you for MOT if you want to decat or even if you have a post August 93 that is running a bit high on emissions ( not unusual for infrequently used cars ) the text in red really is the key point. VOSA Spark ignition cars first used on or after 1 August 1992 are subject to a Basic Emissions Test (BET) regardless of whether a catalytic converter is fitted or required. In the event that the BET is failed, it becomes necessary to reference both the MOT Inspection Manual, Section 7.3 and the In Service Exhaust Emission Standards for Road Vehicles publication (Emissions book). The MOT Inspection Manual is available on-line at http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/ and the Emissions book at https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/194133/Emissions_17th_Edition.pdf For vehicles first used between 1 August 1992 and 31 July 1995, if there is an exact match for the vehicle in the Emissions book, then a full cat test must be carried out. Where this is the case, the vehicle must have a catalytic converter fitted or it will fail, regardless of the result of the emissions test. If there is not an exact match in the Emissions book, then the vehicle will be subject to a non-cat emissions test (two gas test). Where this is the case, the vehicle is not required to have a catalytic converter fitted for MOT purposes, regardless of whether one was originally fitted. High flow cats
Looking at performance tests on the interweb the sports cat are a good idea when your old cats are done and your changing them anyway, if not the gains especially on standard motors is small, maybe 10 bhp and some times even worse so a large chunk of cash for nothing really. Jeff

Mixing Oil
Unlikely your gearbox or diff will drain dry which is what the fill specs will be, if your`s is UK spec with an oil cooler the amount is slightly higher, yet I have never seen a diff cooler that works, the diff temp sensor is set so high it never operates and so remains empty as its set higher than the diff. Where can I buy Brake shims?
Well there is another option and available in the UK !! the pads are the same fitment as a Subaru imprezza, and if your Google search brake shims for the Subaru then they come up as available, and the pictures look very much the same thing .... Issues with my Knuckles
In the workshop on the ramp we got these down to 20 / 30 mins per side with only the wheels removed, cut off the front flange with a grinder and heat up the alloy and whack them out with a socket, keep the alloy warm and the new bush goes in by hand, when it cools down it has it solid. Jeff

Lower intake removal - hard pipe in the way - help!? (photos)
Just for your information: Seen as you have removed the upper timing belt pulley the belt adjuster will have sprung open, well should off, you will not be able to re tension the belt correctly, also it could of moved on the lower crank pulley and you will not know it. You will have to strip the front down including the crank pulley and the metal cam belt cover to correct access, and of course fit a new belt at the same time, consider also a new water pump, thermostat, cam belt pulleys, and for sure the two large rubber inlet hoses. Belt fitting tips here with pictures >> https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?135139-Align-timing-belt&highlight=Cambelt+timing Belt run >>>> Jeff
