What the foo?
Who the heck has bid this zed up to £810 ??? clearly cannot read ? 10 years off the road sat with engine in bits and body rotted off, no way.... not even any use as a brealker ! Jeff https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300zx-twin-turbo-auto-project/282738815823?hash=item41d48bf34f:g:r5UAAOSwNwlaEDj4 "The cams have now gone a bit rusty. It was stripped because of a noisy lifter, I have a spare head and turbo with the engine with good lifters in. The gearbox was fully working when it was in use but this is around 10 years ago. "

Classic cars now a full on bandwagon ?
Ah yes but come on "A CLASSIC Ford Escort car that has covered just 927 miles in its 37-year history" These are time capsule gems, that are far,far removed from the latest craze for selling buckets of rust with a vin plate Jeff

Classic cars now a full on bandwagon ?
Given I have been advocating a predicted drop off in values of many real classics let alone the jonny come lately one`s even I was surprised by the following article as to why this is happening, seems 2017 has seen a firm 10 % drop on historic classics due to the fact there is a shortage of old school mechanics ! ... well who would of thought it eh? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4939210/Value-classic-cars-hits-skids.html Jeff

Speedo and PAS
Here is a picture of the gearbox showing the speed sensor> yes I did used to do generic chips but in the workshop only. Jeff

Speedo and PAS
So lets see what we have here, I am assuming VSS is the speed sensor fitted into the gearbox, to understand your issue you need to understand how the speed signal is distributed through the various modules. The speed sensor produces the speed signal and this goes directly to the speedo input circuitry, this same input signal is also taken to the Consult diagnosis plug. Both the speedo needle and the odometer are run from the same signal, this is still the input signal. The speedo circuitry then produces a clean output signal that then goes to the ecu for the engine, the ecu for the hicas / steering ecu, ABS, autobox and cruise control. Given the signal goes directly from the speed sensor to the speedo cluster and that in general the speed sensors are robust and do not suffer common failure if the speedo stops working and the steering weights up after the problem is with the speedo not producing an output signal, this is very easy to check for, with the cluster removed but still plugged in, the input and output AC 1 to 5 volt signal can be checked, jack up both wheels just clear of the floor by an inch or so, make safe. Start the engine and in first gear or drive in auto`s allow the engine to tick over in gear so the wheels are turning slowly, now with a meter set to ac voltage check input and output, this of course will only work out of the problem is present. Reprogramming the ecu is of little use when the speed signal is required by so many other units, the steering pump is already a constant speed one, there is a solenoid in the end of the rack that opens and closes according to road speed, this simply bleeds off some of the fluid pressure in the system to the front of the pump, this is how it reduces pump pressure and hence reduces assistance levels, ( heavier steering ) tracing and fixing the fault is the only workable option. Door mirrors
Cannot find it just now but did a post about this very problem some years back, if you take the mirror glass and covers off to expose the fold back motor, you can disconnect it from the gears and then power it up via and let it run for say 20 seconds, it will smoke a bit as it burns off crap off the commutator and also it re-beds the brushes, in most cases this will free up the slow motor again and work perfectly after, the problem is the motor only runs in either direction for very small time in normal use and never cleans off. Help Needed on new Import
Bet this is what he is seeing, the plastic quadrant broken and fallen away, his view in the door will be severely restricted as on the later model zeds Nissan made some effect to shield the lock mechanism from break in. Jeff

Help Needed on new Import
More info here tech thread of mine from years back, should help visualise the problem. https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?147920-Spinning-key-barrel-tech-fix&highlight=door+lock Jeff

Help Needed on new Import
Nothing to worry about a new lock and key from Nissan around £6o, handle needs removing from the door to fit though, failing that a second hand unit, you may even be able to use the parts from another one but retain the barrel so no need for an additional key. Jfef

New Owner
Great to see original leather seats in nearly new condition !! love it . Mot advisory "Rear wheel steering inoperative but rear wheels are held substantially in the straight ahead position and the steering is not adversely affected " Confused tester not understanding the super hicas system, bet he was thinking its like the Honda version on Preludes that works when stationary. !! Will need a recommission to get the best from it though, get it to Jim at Powerzed you will be happy you did. Jeff

My first 300ZX - Vin Decoding.
For the sake of the leaking cover`s it makes no difference be it no turbo or twin turbo as the cam covers that leak (outer one`s) do not have gaskets, they just sit on a bed of silicon sealant, the inner cam covers do have gaskets but again no difference between engines. Jeff

Cambelt- to change or not to change
Sounds reasonable, but may be more once they get in there, pulleys , adjuster, ancillary belts etc. As a guide the last Zedworld prices here> Basic Cambelt change to include Genuine Nissan cambelt, themostat, inlet hoses ( 2x ) antifreeze and ConZult set up £285 Water pump £90 Pulleys £60 x 3 Tensioner recon £50 Ancillary belts £15 x 3 So could be more like a tad over £600 if you need it all, be worth asking how they are going to set it up later, ignition timing etc, are they familiar with setting up the throttle balance, tps, air leak checks, tick over set up, all should be done when the timing belt is changed to make the best from the work been done. Trouble is, changing the cambelt is really the easy part, setting the engine up after is more involved and requires some level of experience with the 300zx, still find it incredible how many zeds would come into the workshop badly set up but running, after sometimes just a ConZult session the owner would be amazed by the difference. Hope that helps Jeff

Uk Z sale
Holy smokes anyone checked out that garage ?? used to be a limited company who got compulsory struck off 4 years ago, and their present location sits next to Coparts Salvage yard  given that previous cat c car, then good guess where it came from, and how annoying is that dealers cover number plates in adverts more and more now...that is just to hide the MOT history. That all said, in the pictures at least that black zed sits really nice and depending on the condition underneath and history it looks promising. Jeff
