  1. Ok already mentioned but rust and corrosion is the MAJOR killer now to these cars, although repairs can be of course done its all about how serious the rust is and what the prospect of keeping the repair cost in an affordable budget that befits the rest of the car and the purchase cost. Many more mechanical things to look out for and sure you will get advise about that, but No1 is rust now, take a look at the rust levels and the amount of repair fabrication, welding and painting that goes into it, and these pictures are far from the worse we have dealt with, one other thing is, these photo`s are 9 years old !!! image that even if repaired then even to a good standard the chances are its back !! Just be careful and inspect all you can, have fun and keep it real financially and you will enjoy it. Jeff

  3. Nah don`t listen to me moaning buddy, you all have a great time, be careful and it will be just fine, and have a good natter over some food later to round it off...psst, that`s the best bit !! Jeff
  4. Ok some valid points for you of course not in general though, road driving however brisk is not the same, take it from the guys that use these RR`s every day https://www.onlyrevo.com/blog/rolling-roads-explained/ https://www.onlyrevo.com/content/about-revo I am talking about power runs of course, turn up, on the rollers and off, not a mapping or setting up session which is a different thing along with the power run print off which is best summed up in their own words>> "at the end of the day peak power and torque figures are all pub talk and mean very little in real world conditions" Peak figures don’t give you any indication of drivability or even a true indication of increased performance as they ignore the power/torque curve and can’t tell you how smooth, powerful and efficient the power is delivered. This is what makes a car more drivable and thus more enjoyable. "When Revo and our dealers set vehicles up on the road, we are data logging and feeling how to car drives to get the most from it for you the driver, not just trying to chase a peak number" Exactly ! and this how you get a well sorted motor for the road, after all that is were it used not inside a garage with a fan pointed at it. Jeff
  5. Depends on if your engine goes bang or not ? On a serious note there are many things to consider before getting a rolling road session and not least the dangers, a bad or poorly set up engine will at best give you a disappointing result, at worse detonate your engine. Now I know there are some super good RR guys out there and they do their level best to listen out for knock but by the time they are hearing it the damage has potentially started, this is compounded by the not true life air flow through and over the engine / car. RR sessions are best done slowly and comprehensively, by that I mean a full check and map set up first, then changes made to suit, RR power runs do not include this, infact they will doubtful make even simple checks on oil level and condition, water level, this is the owners responsibility. So lets assume all goes well and you get a RR read out saying you got a thousand BHP, firstly who really gives a t*ss, and second is it real ? how many zeds have been on sale and mentioned here with a RR print out that NO-ONE believes ... yes you know that how its is really. the variable factors such as ambient temp and engine set up, transmission type and more all have factors, even the RR workshops power supply can effect results if not correctly installed. So yes I am a pessimist, come on lads the cars are near 30 years old lads do you really want to break them? how would it impact on you if the engine went tits up? Sorry to be down on your thread but just want to add some caution, if the worse does happen will the forum or thread starter or RR garage cough up ? we all know that is a big fat NO, so really think about accepting any invite. Have a meet instead, at a nice family pub, take the kids and have a sit down, meal inside and chat about zeds and cars and have a good time without any competition to concern yourself about. Good luck guys, off to collect my pension and get the warden to cook my lunch. Jeff
  6. It is very possible to have a coil pack breaking down, what I have seen is the long leg rubber bit that reaches down to the spark plug have insulation breakdown, sometimes from damage caused when removed, this can effectively give the feel of a misfire. The basic checks first as you mention is the way to go and from there move on up through more tech area`s. Jeff
  7. If anything my advise would be to keep it simple, it is very easy and a common mistake to go too technical too early in the diagnosis stage, despite it`s appearance the zed engine is not as complicated as many consider. Jeff
  8. Get it on a ConZult and look specifically at both the AFM voltage, and the injector dwell, timing advance when revving with a strobe and or any timing wobble. Then a drive out with the ConZult on save session mode and go reproduce the issue, do it a few times and then when you back you can play it back and see what happen`s to the various live signals at the exact point of the miss / hold back. From experience this fault can manifest itself due to maf fail at a given linear point, and the cas unit can do the same thing, failing to advance or produce a stable ignition signal, the problem with these type of faults is as the units are still producing a signal, however bad or incorrect it is the ecu in its limited diagnostic process cannot log a fault code as it does not see it as a fault, more modern OBD2 with canbus will see these signals as "implausible" which basically means its seeing a signal but it is outside of the set parameters, as much as I dislike many parts of canbus and OBD2 it does have good points. What you really need is a very good ConZult guy, not many if any diyer`s can read ConZult as it needs constant use to understand not only what its is telling you but conversely what it is not and know how to judge that information, trust me on this every working day using this system for +15 years in the workshop , throwing parts at it could be a lucky first find, my advise get it to Jimmer.
  9. Bearings do not get better after a 100 yards or so, the belt is slipping due to adjustment. Jeff
  10. The alternator will kick in harder on a cold start and make the unit harder to turn and hence any slack or miss adjustment of the belt will show out. Once the belt catches or the alternator output reduces the squeal stops. So could be a simple case of re-adjustment of the tension on the belt. One issue I saw regular in the workshop was UK sized alternator belt fitted to an import zed. The belt for the import is actually smaller as the pulleys on the fan is smaller. This means the belt adjustment is maxed and still not quite tight enough. The mistake is made when purchasing belts from the UK and the listing is for UK cars only. Alternator bearing would not be on my radar at this point. Jeff
  11. Injector connections, commonly go green and cause the exact problem you have, if left the injector will often go open circuit and require changing. Jeff
  12. To clarify, the coil pack 12 volt supply relay receives s signal to energise from the ecu, in near 20 years in the workshop I can not remember replacing a coil relay but ecu outputs can play up. Common over fulling issues from bad temp sensor connections will result in flooding and non starts, this is often accompanied by the ac electric fan running with the ignition on, however many if the fan motors have failed and do not run so be aware of that. So check and clean the temp sensor ( the yellow one in front of the engine ) then pull all of the plugs and dry them, if you can leave the plugs out over night and with the plugs out and the fuel pump fuse removed turn the engine over for 5 second or so with the accelerator flat down, pause and do this again. Next day or after above if you have to, refit the plugs, refit the fuel pump fuse and crank away but keep your foot off the gas pedal until it catches at the very least, if the non start was from flooding it will start after that, if not then you need to look again at the spark and or the afm, actually faulty mafs can stop an engine starting so be worth disconnecting and trying a start at that point, Failing all that you would be best advised to get the car hooked up on the a ConZult diagnostic and look for strange readings or any potential error codes. Good luck Jeff
  13. Such as shame if the climate was better there are some great places to live there but just not outside !! Jeff
  14. People we telling me last week the cold temps seem to have gone on and on.. crazy Jeff
  15. Wrap up guys ! there is some very low temps coming your way, was in the UK last week, sadly for a funeral but boy was it cold at that church !!! Seriously unless you need to go out, stay in and stay warm ! https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/feb/23/uk-faces-significant-snowfall-due-to-freezing-air-from-siberia Health officials have warned of the risks of exposure as temperatures plummet over the weekend and Britain faces the prospect of the coldest end to a winter in five years. Freezing air from Siberia is forecast to envelop the country next week, bringing significant and “disruptive” snowfall. The Arctic blast, nicknamed “the beast from the east”, will cause temperatures to drop below zero from Sunday night, with some areas experiencing lows of -8C (17.6F), and snow forecast to fall in London and the east of England. Little amble down to the beach today .... no tourists, what a waste eh? 24c Jeff
  16. Cable operates in different directions for the hatch and the petrol flap. Jeff
  17. Sure its a solid wire rather than a braided one so may be there something else wrong. Jeff
  18. Most likely the end ferrule at the petrol flap end, you can improvise something like a cable connector ( the screw ones ) Jeff
  19. Yes the numbers are different between import and UK as well some confusing label colours, there is also red and yellow as well as dark blue and light blue all depending on spec of the ecu. Jeff
  20. Here is a set up I sold in 2010 from a UK breaker and the label on the ecu is green, came from a series ll zed, the colour of the label changes between series ll UK spec and series ll Jap import. https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?140827-Series-II-air-con-upgrade-parts-for- sale&highlight=SERIES+HEATER Another thread of mine from 2010 details a method of getting warm air from the centre vents without changing the units >> https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?141460-Heater-vent-direction-mod&highlight=SERIES+HEATER Jeff - - - Updated - - -
  21. UK supplier for part No. 7490145 P75 http://nissangenuine.com/search.php?search_query=7490145+P75 Jeff
  22. Did not feel anything in Milton Keynes, reports said from Cornwall to Blackpool. Had a couple in Portugal and they often are preceeded by a large bang sound.. one last year made the swimming pool water slosh from one end to the other !! Jeff
  23. Adult viewing resumed. Thanks Jeff
  24. So I followed the last few days of threads about traders and fees and now the contribution section. Called me old fashioned ( please do I am proud to be a grown up ) but this is becoming sureal, I don't get it, this is the thin end of the wedge for the forum credibility surely? I thought the 300zx forum / club had more about it than to resort to allowing the members subscribing and then donating to keep traders on board. Just my take on it of course but all appears a bit unseemly.. Jeff
