Auto to manual conversion wireing
Actually very simple, but do not change the loom from the alternator to the gearbox, what you need to do on the alternator loom side is identify the inhibitor switch pair and bridge them. Identify the speed sensor cables and recouple them ( normally green ) and then the reverse lights cable from the gearbox needs extending up to the connectors behind the drivers headlight. Finally and not completely required, the neutral switch, take it from the gearbox to the ecu and connect to pin 44 and to earth, sure I did a tech thread for this years ago, will see if I can find it. Apexi air filter
The induction system is not that clear as most of it is hidden behind the bumper and headlight bowls. So check out the first pictures, this shows how the air box is fed from each side by flat profile tubes, this draw air from the corner of the bumper area where it meets the wing. The tube and the size of the intake to the tube do seem to be the most restrictive part of the system, this is what fitting an induction kit overcomes. Looking back at the actual filter housing, it can be seen to be a good design with up swept design aimed towards the afm, its also has primary and secondary chambers, this forms a volumetric chamber that increases air speed whilst reducing swirl that can lead to negative pressure areas / pressure pulsing, in all a very well designed housing. But of course there is always a rub and that is getting air to the box, the front of the zed is compact and with coolers, fans and bumper supports so the air is taken from the bumper corners, trouble is the access to there means the delivery pipes are a flat small profile and no doubt this is ok for stock but can be improved upon. Look at the two delivery pipes here, the size and profile is not conducive to free flow.. So given the flow restriction appears to be before the air box, by removing them and opening up the delivery ports on the air box, will give improved flow to the filters even standard ones, and if free flow panel ones were fitted then it would seem a fair conclusion that the benefits of an induction kit had been achieved without the draw backs from water ingress. The air box can be removes and the delivery pipes just cut back, the air box opened up at the sides to match the output size. Jeff

Is it a well known site / link? Jeff

Useful info site on boost leaks
As title, could be helpful with understanding the boost leak problems and how to work through them. Note air leaks effect non turbo zeds as well. http://www.thumper300zx.com/z32/boostleaks/boost_leak_guide.htm Jeff

Apexi air filter
Given the problems with water ingress I think free flow panel filters in the original intakes is a better deal all round. Jeff

Another MOT emissions problem!
Found the answer to getting an MOT without having an emissions test..................take a wheel off, see below from the MOT web site ....Lol MOT Most vehicles have their exhaust emissions tested as part of the MOT. Usually, they’re tested using a meter. Petrol vehicles used before August 1975 and diesel vehicles used before August 1979 are tested by sight. If your vehicle fails the emission test it fails the MOT. The problem must be fixed before you can get an MOT certificate. The only vehicles that don’t have an emissions test as part of the MOT are: vehicles with less than 4 wheels those with 2-stroke engines hybrid vehicles quadricycles https://www.gov.uk/emissions-testing

Another MOT emissions problem!
That is interesting, so the system does not show historic testing? that is odd and given the tester could check it on a free app on his phone makes the log in system seem very limited:sad: Jeff

If the alarm is inactive due to low battery it is unlikely the engine will start without a jump anyhow, what you could do is arm your self with a 10 mm spanner and someone holding a torch, soon as the door is open, release the bonnet and get the battery disconnected, that is assuming there is enough power to set the alarm off anyhow. If you jump start from another car, after hooking up give it 5 minutes before trying to start it, that gives the battery chance to receive some charge, of course of you have a battery charger even better, leave it in charge over night. Another MOT emissions problem!
The trying another testing station is not as easy as it used to be as as soon as the second test station log in they will see the fail and why. So its likely the problem is not new as you said previously the test has been done as a non cat test, so, what you need to be looking at is air flow, a ConZult session will help massively, you need to see what the afm is reading, from this you will be able to see if its faulty, or there is an air leak, an air leak will cause all sorts of issues with emissions, also ignition timing and even cambelt timing can and will effect the way the combustion occurs and subsequently the emissions, I would be getting it off to Jim at Powerzed to be checked out or you will end up going around in circles. Braking Ping???
Yes the nistune board will most likely be the difference. Jeff

Braking Ping???
Has it got a UK ecu or chip?
-
Wow way back when ...............
Yes be good to know, do see a few on line here and there that I remember the plates.... some got into magazines that we advertised in and remember the amount of calls each issue would generate, times change an so have car magazines, way too expensive now.. Some of our old ads  they look a bit cheesy now ! http://www.zedworld.co.uk/wizzm.html Jeff
-
Braking Ping???
That will be the ping noise then, just a mismatch anomaly, mine did it and so did many that came into the workshop with UK speedo`s fitted into import zeds. Jeff
-
Braking Ping???
Taking a guess here, you have a UK speedo fitted to a Import zed, or at least an import ecu? Jeff

Loss of pressure ?
Finding air / boost leaks can only be done by pressurising the system via the intake, it needs a special bung adapter and a compressor, listening will not find them, way too much noise with the engine running. That said if your suggesting it is working ok again now maybe you were getting detonation for some reason and this was picked up and the boost reduced, this would reset after been switch off though. Still possible to get intermittent problem with air / boost problems from the recirc valves, or and pipes that need tightening up. Jeff

Lancaster Insurance - A Warning
Well said, the bombed out runways made me smile, not car related but my home Building and contents insurance in England had got to around £300 with Morethan insurance having slowly climbed from £220 over 6 year period. Then out of the blue my renewal went up to £650 !! I rang and was told it was because the area I lived in the risk had been changed due to a high level of claims....... I asked if he knew the area I lived in and if not had he checked it out he said he knew Birmingham well and that it was a city so you have to expect rises I was stunned by his incompetence, I actually lived in Warwickshire in the country side in a hamlet of less than 60 people, I told him this but he said his hands were tied ?? ... I cancelled the auto renewal and went on line on Morethan`s own site and got reinsured through them again for £295 ?? beggars belief the way the insurance companies operate..., crooks most of them Jeff On a side note, my home and car insurance is significantly less expensive in Portugal !
