R12 Air conditioning to R134a
Nonsense!! But Quack Fart can't do anything for you anyway. Find a mobile a/c specialist and ask about the R12 drop in replacement. As said above; JeffTT can get it re-gassed with the R12 substitute for £80 plus VAT. Richard

Mobile phone question - unread text/missed call alerts?
I have always been a Motorolla fan but I switched to a Nokia last year and I still cannot see why people love the Nokia handsets..... ......I'm sure my 6700 can be programmed to beep if I have a missed call or text; until I retrieve it, but I'm scuppered if I know how to do it:wacko: I still miss my old KRZR K1.......:sweatdrop: Richard:blush:

R12 Air conditioning to R134a
Hi mate, I had to replace the condensor on my "new" Z last year - and then when it was replaced and re-gassed it was discovered that the compressor was very noisy and on its way out. Well, I have just had the compressor replaced with another re-gas and all is well. As for the conversion, I didn't. I took my car to Jeff at Zedworld and he replaced the compressor for me then had it re-gassed with the R12 substitute (as opposed to the R134 conversion) and all is well. The cost for removing/replacing the pump and re-gassing was £230 plus VAT all in. A bargain I'd say!! Here was Jeff's guide to replacing the pump - needless to say I was happier for him to do it!! My advice - give him a call! The job is not too techinical just a ball ache really, radiator out is preferable, rad fan and upper steel turbo pipe on passenger side, big throttle pipe same side also. Air con ancillary belt tensioner release 1 x 14 mm centre locking nut and back off adjuster 1 x 12mm bolt and then remove belt. Compressor has 4 x 14mm bolts two lower (easy) two upper (one easy one a bugger) and the two port pipes each held by 12mm nuts. Richard:thumbup1:

what have i done?
Exactly what these guys have said..... .....take the car out on the road and see what results it produces. But do go easy on the loud pedal with those new tubbys until all is warmed up and (properly) ready to go! Richard:cool2:

My New Lights
Hi Peter, My personal opinion for what it's worth..... ........the centre panel does not suit the rest of the car. If it was the same shade of white as the bodywork then (IMO of course) it would look better; but as it is? Hmmm.... Whilst I prefer the whole '99-spec rear to anything else, your lights are the next best thing. They would look better if you kept the present style of the centre panel; but had it colour matched to the black surround of your new lights! Just my humble opinion though mate! Richard:chef:

which one to choose from?
You're still mistaken mate - the "0" and "5" weights on your own link refer to 0w20(or30) or 5w20(or 30). It's ONLY the "40" part that counts at full operating temperature and it's a (proven scientific) fact that 5w40 is exactly the same as 10w40 when the engine is running normally! Richard:cool3:

targa storage
Yup - that's it. They are fixed in place using the eye-hook holes under the boot carpet; at the very back of the boot approx 30cm from the sides. Right where there are plastic lined holes in the carpet - you thread them via the metal loop at the front of the boot, dead centre.... However I have never bothered - I just rest them carefully in the boot and I've not had a problem so far.......:whistling: Richard:cool3:

Looking at a 300zx with decat, is this safe
It's not that removing the cats (or fitting a less restrictive exhaust) will specifically reduce turbo life. It more like shows a problem that was present, but previously less visible - ie that the turbo seals are on their way out! Richard:cool3:

Thanks to Zedworld....
A big thanks to Jeff, Jamie and Lynda! I collected my car this morning after having the A/C pump replaced. And it was much needed on the drive home - it was hot and sunny outside but once again the inside of the car was like a fridge. Excellent!! Oh, and I had some new front discs/pads fitted which have definitely improved braking; an oil and filter change and a good undersealing!! Thankfully the underside of the car is clean and sound. It looked OK from what I could see when I bought it last year, but is was comforting to hear Jeff say it was good. So not all UK cars are rusty!!! Finally a "get well soon" message to Jamie's wife as she is not very well this morning. Richard:chef:

Different place for your front number plate!
I don't much like that........ ........but then I have never liked the sticker type plates that sometimes adorned the front of E-types and MGBs. A front numberplate often spoils the lines of a car but sticking one on the paintwork just makes it worse!! Richard:sailor:

which one to choose from?
Sorry buddy, that's a common misconception! The first number in 0w or 5w refers to the ability of the oil to circulate round the engine from cold (ie start-up). The second number is the important one - the "40" or "50" as that refers to the stability/viscosity at full running temperature. A decent synthetic oil has a lower "w" number giving a wider efficient operating range for all year round use. So when hot, a 0w40 is the same as a 10w40. Oilman, our own resident pol expert and trader has posted several threads about this..... Richard:chef:
-
which one to choose from?
Neither! the "30" bit is too thin at high temperature for a 300zx. Go for a 5w40 (preferably fully synthetic) or 10w40. The "40" part means that the oil viscosity and stability is maintained at the high termperatures seen under the bonnet of a twin turbo. Castrol do a 0w40 and most quality fuel stations will sell a good 5w40 (Shell Helix Ultra for example). Richard:cool3:

Private plate questions
I'd guess yes Dave (former sentence; not the last one mate!!) The receiving vehicle will need taxing so you'd need to complete the application for a tax disc at the time of assigning the registration. Once you are advised the transfer has gone through you then inform your insurers. It's important that your insurance states the plate that is on the car at the time - so they only need to know once you have put the new reg on it. Once the transfer is complete, then DVLA will send you the new V5 in a couple of weeks. Richard:cool2:
-
Private plate questions
No, you only pay the £80 once per transaction mate! Based on that I'm guessing the reg number dealers will handle the paperwork on your behalf - which should make it even easier for you!! Richard:chef:

thieving litle c**t
Whilst I do not condone violence....... .......I'm so pleased that you caught the little scrote! Honestly when these things happen and you get there afterwards to face the damage, you just dream that you'd have gotten there earlier and nabbed him in the act.... Good for you Mental; I bet the little b@stard will think twice before doing that again. They only do it because they know that the law can't touch them nowadays. 30 years ago they'd have been nicked and taken down to the cells for a "chat", then most likely have "fallen on the stairs" on the way...... Those were the days - senior coppers like Gene Hunt = less petty crime!
