  1. wow those are high. you must have faulty afm/o2 sensors or fuel pressure reg or all. i would have thought a vac leak would make it leaner. have all your injectors got good contacts?
  2. any one had one fail. think mine are the originals (they are black) and my car is running rich on boost. could it be that as soon as the car stops using the o2 sensors it then over fuels? the car has a slight rythmical lumpiness (not a missfire) on idle that you can also hear as a slight pop in the exhaust if i raise the revs a bit the engine is very smooth.
  3. thanks for the info i had been beginning to wonder if it were the regulator or damper. im sure it is the emissions i can smell. i dont think its the temp sensor as i had it on conzult last week and jeff did not comment on it. to be fair i only smell it with the window open as im slowing down. i assume the only way to deturmine a faulty regulator is to get a gauge on it?
  4. sounds like the air deflector like your mechanic said. well known problem there is a good site showing how it should be setup. causes the exact problems you have
  5. have you checked the connection to the boost solinoids? have you tried running with the dump valves removed? i have sorted my boost issue. the restrictors were not in the solinoid lines and the recircs were weak. have you still got yours fitted?
  6. they are very black inside. also the outer shroud of the plugs are. the tips are the correct colour but look like its been running rich recently. the plugs are brand new btw.
  7. one of the first things i did when i got the zed as they were all leaking. i dont get a smell on idle though. even the exhaust smells only slightly of fuel as you would expect without cats. i dont think it can be the fan blowing the smell. im quite sure its the smell of un burnt fuel (running rich) not a leak. thanks for the response though.
  8. ive nearly got the car sorted now.. just one problem left. the car smells of unburnt fuel when on boost. i have virtually no boost leaks (i think the cam covers are leaking when pressurised as i have an oil leak there too) i replaced the recirc valves timing etc was spot on the only thing not really checked is the afm but i had a conzult last week which showed nothing unordaiary- is that correct jeff? no cats fitted btw i am going to remove the plenum some time soon to do the cam covers so ill replace the fuel rail hose. have i missed somthing or does the std map just run very rich when coming on boost
  9. the idea is great. my advise would be DONT DO IT we have had no life for the last 2 1/2 years. If you have experience then you might stand a fighting chance but its bloody hard work but satisfying knowing you are working for the rewards in the future
  10. i am a design engineer for a company that makes hedges cutters. i design those big yellow things that sit on the back of tractors causing trafic jams and giving your bike punctures. My self and my partner also own a small (15 rooms) luxury hotel/restaurant which takes up the rest of my time (she is the manager)
  11. yep the 200 boys use them to fit the rb26 surly the 300zx box does not have a seperate bell housing?
  12. dont think its that quick yet. we will see. if all else fails i have a lotus 7 style car i am not far from finishing which has a 300hp turbo red top and a twin turbo lexus v8 to go into my 200sx. so ill get there
  13. will do once i have a chip fitted:D need to put my manual box in too almost had a bit of wheel spin earlyer:shock: its not done that before.
  14. t28s should be a good one to go for. they are fitted to the s14 200sx and are capable of around 280-300hp per turbo in that spec (gti-r had a different trim) the s13 used a t25 but i think is again a different trim to the 300 unit. most s13s product up to around 250 on the t25 so a pair on the 300 could make up to around 500. i would have thought that the t28s would be a little laggy as in the s14 you would hit 15psi by around 3k. that has 2000cc driving the turbo but the 300 would only have 1500. i would expect full boost (15psi) by around 4k if you can live with that. the t28 also has a 5 bolt flange instead on the 300s 4 bolt. hope this helps. ps there is also the gt28s and gt28rs (disco potato) which are popular upgrades on the s14- the gt28s is a roller bearing version of the 28 and spools a little earlyer.
  15. went to see jeff on saturday to have a conzult unfortunatly (well fortunatly) there were no problems at all. so jeff took the car out for a spin. he then confirmed what i had suspected- it was really slow. after a bit of tinkering Jeff suggested the problem was with the recirc valves as i was only making 4psi and disconnecting the wastegate pipe only increased this to 5. i put on the replacement valves and the results were better but the car was still not that quick. after a bit of tinkering in the week i pinned the problem down. in my less informed first few weeks of ownership i replaced all the vacume hoses including the wastegate ones. guess what. i had not realised that the standard setup should have restrictors in them:headvswal now installed the restrictors and a set of 1.3mm boost jets and a boost gauge and im now getting 11-12psi. all i need to do is sort the boost leak i can hear (hoping to get a performance increase from this too) so let this be a lesson to all. dont assume anything ps big thanks to jeff for the help and reassurance
  16. ill post up some pics of my diy fuel rail fitted on the kit car

are things not going well on the rebuild. im sure you could pick up a good crank for £100 i think you can buy new from the us for about £700
  18. very true, perhape my point is that is 80% a bit too safe when you could get a fair bit more and perhaps utilise the maximum efficient range of the std turbos- 18psi however im not suggesting we all go out and turn the boost up untill we get dett etc. i totaly understand why all tuners would want too keep a nice margin. nissan themselves gave a very good margin as stock perhapse its just me being tight but it seems amazing that people would spend well over 1k on new injectors and rails. you can pick up a set of huge cossy injectors for under 100. i think i saw a thread about 350z injectors recently. perhapse there is a good market for an affordable top feed rail.
  19. i dont intend to mate. im not too woried about the odd 1/2 psi though. i will probobly run as much boost as i can get away with without running lean or really maxing out the turbos prob 14-15 psi though.
  20. just a thought, im sure ill be shot down but here goes its widly thought that you should not exceed 80% duty cycle on an injector most people will not go over 15psi boost due to the injectors reaching 80% duty cycle- correct? limiting you to around 380bhp however it has been my previous experience that side feed injectors as fitted to the 300, and for that matter the 200sx are quite happy running up to around 95%- perhapse because they are better cooled. has anyone ever tried running higher than 80% and for that matter has anyone ever had a failure due to this? theoretically you could reach 450 bhp? what cc are gtr injectors? it would be interesting to hear some thoughts. ps im not sure id want to try it on my engine but might have a go at 17psi with some research. let the fireballs rip
  21. i was thinking without any jets i would run actuator pressure which is 7 i think. not sure why it would be 4 though. cant wait for 15psi. it made such a large difference on my 200sx going from standard 9 psi up to 15. 17 was even better again.
  22. damm it. ill be needing more power then.
  23. infact its the same guy who picked the wheels up off you. in case i forgot to say thanks, thanks for the wheels. they are serving me proud untill i get the new ones on.:hyper:
  24. ive not been in it yet. he picks it up on sunday the engine in my zed is in great condition its just not producing much boost. once sorted with a john dixion chip i hope to be running 15psi so should be around 350 to 38hp im sure it must only be producing around 200 at the moment. really looking forward to seing the jag though. such good value for money now. its a later 4.2 with around 80k on the clock and fjsh. he paid 12 for it 6 years ago it was over 60!
  25. my mate has just bought a 53 plate xkr. even once my zed is running right im a little woried his may be quite a bit quicker. Tell me im wrong
