lwb exhaust onto swb
Hay guys, I am thinking of breaking my lwb and fitting my good mechanicals onto a swb shell. I have recently bought a really nice fujibiso giken system and would really like to keep it for the shorty can the pipes be cut down to make it fit or would i have to effectivly shorten the rear silencer Pete

well i spoke to jeff today and he has assured me that it will be perfectly ok to cut out the old leg and put on a replacement from a donor. Im perfectly happy to do this sort of work so all should be fine infact he said nissan still sell new chassis legs for just this purpose:biggrin: Bring on the angle grinder

well im going to try and take it in my strid. im going to try and get a swb shell and brake the rest of the old shell and use my engine etc. problem is im totally broke from fixing it so spread the word if anyone had a swb shell going for a good price

it wernt me. the car was hpi clear and had been quite well bodged on the surface to look fine. you cant really see the chassis rails without it stripped down. i guess the previous owner crashed it into something (i think smithy mentioned this) and had a dodgy garage repair it instead of going through insurance. i dont think i can drive it now i know. ive spent alot of time and money getting it this far and now the shell is basically scrap should i reshell or fix my shell? or just sell it all.

bad news. stripped down the front of the zed today as i was taking the engine out for a clean up and a manual conversion along with a bit of winter overhaul. unfortunatly the slight ding i thought it had turns out to be a bent chassis leg:crying: i now am forced with the task of replacing the chassis leg from a breaker or reshelling the car. this is so frustrating just as i have got the car running well and was about to do all the finishing touches to make it run perfectly. gutted

300zx tt restoration project..
i spent the day moving the 200sx out and the 300 in. i do have a garage which i built last year but its a bit cramped as i have a locost type car in there as well. stripped the front end down this evening and assesing some previous bad accident repairs.

what colour?
well ive been chatting with the mrs today and we have decided. i thought white and she thought black so its going to be gray. same colour as alot of the new lambos like this what do you think?
-
what colour?
i am a fan of gray but imo on a zed you need a bold colour that makes a big statement. a bright yellow really suits them but im not brave enough for that. the biggest attaction of black is that all the trim matches, it does show up every little dent though

what colour?
well the zed is coming off the road this weekend for a bit of a tidy up and the 400sx project is being sidelined for 6 months or so. im doing a manual conversion, cam belt change, plenum polish and engine clean up so i figure ill just pull the engine and box together. i might also ditch the hicas and give the bay a bit of a respray. i also have a 99 spec bumper to go on, a bonnet and wings to respray, and a rusty patch on the back. i was also going to do the bits of roof black and remove the stone chip around the car. i will be doing the work myself and can spray 2k it seems i might aswell respray the whole car while im at it the car is currently red I love white cars and particualy 300s in white, the mrs thinks it should be black. any thoughts or pictures for inspiration?

300zx tt restoration project..
that all looks very familiar, as with the 200 they rust from the inside out. I cant really recomend a brand or type of celulose. I use a supplier called ken and lyn they are based in buxton which is not close to me (or you) but they do post I go to quite a few classic shows where he has a stand and brings along pre orders. My dad is restoring an e type at the moment so i usually do an order with him. most of the car will be finished in 2k as i have an isolated garage and an air fed mask etc. it is so much better but can kill you as you might already know. under the arches where i will overcoat with stone chip i just use rattle cans for convenience.

300zx tt restoration project..
im just about to start on the undersealing actually. ive been working on the rear acches for ages now but im just finishing up and the car is going outside for a while so i can do some work on the 300 over the winter. so far i have used a combiation of different paints on the underside. i have been using a similar product to por 15 in areas that will not get stone chip. this goes on over bare metal once it has had an acid spray applied then washed off. areas that have had heavy rust and still may have a bit in the pitting have had a zink primer. The rest have had a weld through etch primer which i have applied before welding a seam. the wheel arches have a coat of the etch primer then seam sealed using tiger seal (which i have just done tonight) then will get a coat of celulose (to keep out the moisture when it goes out) then when its all done ill use a stone chip over most of the underside. back on subject i would try to use 3m stone chip if you can get it for a good read on this here is a great thread from the sxoc http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=283826 and here is my project section which i have not updated in ages http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=345900&highlight=400sx id love to see some more pics. have you tackeled the rear inner sill section. it was a pain on the sx

300zx tt restoration project..
some excelent fabrication there mate. i am doing similar work on a 200sx at the moment. damm rusty old datsuns. Im sure you are on top of it but make sure you get rid of all traces of rust, once it starts its very hard to stop. soft wire brushes on an electric drill are very effective for getting out all the rust from the pitting. I have also had excelent results from the bilt humber deox range to get all those hard to get bits. keep up the good work
